G'day Ant000,

Im at the same stage as you, but ive just been reading the Stage 2 Availibility form, and it's asking what dates you are NOT available for testing. As far as i know, the testing is running on an ongoing basis.

Does this answer your question?

Bluel0gic,

no thats not true. at the stage 2 selection we were told that its very unlikely not to find employment with an airline after going through the CTC training. but you may be held in the 'holding pool' for a period while they continue searching for employment for you. if, however, you are not recruited by an airline (which is inprobable) you will be refunded the 60k. remember, its 100% sponsorship, they are going to do their damdest to find you a job, the only way you'll lose that deposit is if you fail or cannot complete the training.

HiWing,

I'll send you some further info on stages 3 and 4 as soon as I get a chance!

In the mean time, have a look at previous posts on those stages, they're helpful.

All the best,

Jonnys.

No advice from me.. cause I haven't seen the selection process.. just a comment..

I am one of the Flight Instructors involved with training the CTC McAlpine Cadets in New Zealand...

All I have to say is that I've been greatly impressed by the calibre of the cadets that have been coming my way.. and they are absolutely neat people to work with.

They are some of the most hard working and committed people I have taught in my career..

You only have to look sideways at a subject as a instructor, and you can almost guarentee that those cadets will come back knowing as much as they can find out about that subject..

They don't give up easily either, especially when life throws them curveballs...

Yes.. there has been the odd female cadet too...

Good luck for all of you that apply, and hope to see you in New Zealand in my office some time...

Hi

does any one know when the next selection dates for stage 2 are?

Also, how long after youve sent your application off (with the 4 questions) do they get back to you?

Cheers

I recently 'crashed and burned' at Stage 3. Quite gutted but was wondering if there was anyone who was also unsuccessful at this stage has decided to take the plunge and go down the risky road of private funding? Or is there anyone out there who's going to wait for 6 months and have another crack at it?

If there are any wise, experienced pilots out there who have any useful advice on the best path to take I'd be very grateful to hear from you.

Cheers!

afternoon boys n girls!

just like to say thanks to everyone at CTC down in Dibden for making stage 3 and 4 this week a less stressfull experience than i thought it was going to be!

Really did enjoy it, although a bit nerve-racking at times

To everyone who was there for selection, it was a pleasure to be around some of the most switched on and motivated people i've ever met! I'm just sorry that not everyone made it through.

For everyone still to do these stages, all i can say is that you will really enjoy it, even if at the time you think differently.....

J, O, D, who i know are through, well done guys! We should try and arrange to meet up sometime before we go. D, if you know by now, let me know how you got on. Fingers crossed you got it as well mate!

See you in NZ everyone!

I would just like to echo what wing_bound_vortex has said. The staff at CTC are excellent, they are friendly, they relax you, and they are very professional. Everyone on a whole is brilliant. Very very professional, and if anyone is wondering, its well worth the £160. The experience is second to none, extremely enjoyable and will develop useful skills for the future if you don’t pass. The best £160 I’ve ever spent!

Oh and lets not forget the candidates themselves, all top class people. My sympathies to the unsuccessful ones, from what I have seen it must have been very difficult to select those who got through. Stage 3 people where all extremely good. Would be really great to hear from any of you. PM me.

And to the 11th Nov Stage 4 boys.... How’s it going guys?!?! Medical here I come, J, B, any ideas if the 2 Davies's are through?
PM me and I’ll send ya my e-mail address.

Cheers, PPrune for all the info I needed to pass! Many thanks to all who helped me. Beers on me if we meet!

For the other 7 on November 10....

Seeing as I've never put a post up before and that we all spent a bit of time in between lunch and interview praising the usefulness of PPrune, I thought that I would spend 5 minutes to get back in touch with those who I had the pleasure of meeting on Tuesday. Unfortunately I was one of those who was unsuccessful (hence the username) and had a long journey home Tuesday evening. I am still extremely gutted that I was unable to join the rest of you on Wednesday but I am sure that everything went well.

To the 3 that I shared the bad news with - it was difficult to sit there and not be asked to stay over with the others and although I am still gutted, I look back at it as a great experience meeting like-minded people and learning so much.

To the 4 that got through - I trust that you all passed the sim test on Wednesday??? (I have read a couple of posts to find that some of you did). If you did, then congratulations - I wish you all the best for the training ahead. When does the training start - we all thought it would be March as we understood that Feb was already fully booked??

I would like to re-iterate comments made by OL and Wing_Bound_Vortex - CTC staff made me feel at home on both visits to Dibden and although I didn't make it to Stage 4, I am certainly better for the whole experience - Thank You.

Enjoy NZ and see you around.

Hi all,

I was at the stage 2 selection a few months back but unfortunately did not get to stage 3.

I would like to know if CTC send you any kind of feedback on your performance at stage 2 and how long does it take them to send this info?

Thanks in advance!

You have to write to them and request feedback specifically. They will give it to you by e-mail within a few days/week of your request

Question Essay questions! wheh!

OOOh well hello all! I hope this day finds you well.

This is my first post and I'm finding it unnerving cuz I have never used a forum dealy before (feels somewhat vague) anywho...
Just a wee nosy question for anyone that has applied to CTC McAlpine before,

what are the titles for the essay questions in the second part of phase 2?

Basically I dont want to fill in the first part of the form until I have some hours in the aul logbook, but I would'nt mind working on the essays in between!

I would like to think that I might stand a chance of getting into CTC but then feel disheartened when I read terrible things on this forum about some very dedicated people amongst yourselves that have not even made it to phase 2! Scarey!

My spec is this and feel free to tell me if you think I have no chance and am living in laalaa land!

female, 20
A-levels:
TD: A
English lit: C
Business studies: B

9 GCSES all A's and B's (acept for one C! History )

Anyway, appreciate any feedback folks, cheers if you even bother to read this

Hello Charlie Alpha

I went to down to CTC selection (stage three) last year, and was unsuccessful i might add. So don't take what I say as gospel!

Essay Questions:

Don't worry too much, can't remember the exact question titles, most are along the lines of, 'what do you see as the key skills of an airline pilot of the future?' You don't have to write 2 sides of A4 or anything like that, I wrote just enough to fill the space provided(two or three paragraphs). From what was said by the selection team at stage 3, they are looking for people who demonstrate things like teamwork and customer awareness and appreciate that being an airline captain requires much more than just flying the plane and wearing a smart uniform. Obviously spelling and grammer are very important. You have English A level, so I don't need to tell you!

The essay questions may well have changed, as the folks at CTC are not suprisingly aware of this monumental thread, but the things they are looking for in your answers will still be the same.

Also don't worry about getting hours in your logbook. It won't do you any harm, obviously, but it makes no difference to them. I asked that question and was given that answer by one of the selection team. The people who posted about being turned down had, in most cases, too many hours and were "too experienced" - they are looking for people with minimal experience, ie a PPL at most.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Smile Cheers Yeboin

Appreciate the info,

I think it is really horrible the way people get all the way to stage 3 and then are told to hit the road after that, but then again I suppose it has to be done!

Out of pure noseyness, what are you doing now dude? Did you continue to pursue a pilot career, self sponsor? Or move onto something else. Hope your happy in whatever you're up2 anyway!

The people that did get through phase 3, are they asked to stay over and complete the sim check the next day or do they have to come all the way back to Southhampton at a later stage?

Take care
