The real danger in my opinion is that guys with 200 hours are going directly to jets that don't require manipulation of the thrust lever on final approach. They have absolutely no sense or skill to use the thrust lever when necessary. I had a situation very recently where the speed dropped 15 kts below vref during approach to HKG, there was no motor skill reaction whatsoever to push up power (or to initiate a go-around). His experience was flight school, Embraer 1?? and then 777. Nothing requiring manual movement of the thrust lever in normal operations. This is something that training needs to address very carefully in my view.

If I was a bit younger (49) I would probably go into turboprop and fly those for a bit and then try and go to jet but I suspect time aint on my side and I probably can't afford to risk that route.

Most airlines seem only to consider pilots with 500 hrs on type if you're not from an academy so its a bit of chicken and egg.

Piston hours are a waste of time.
I know about more than one guy called for assessment at RYR that had failed POF. Some passed some didn't, but I'm really not sure that is the reason you haven't been called.

Try Flybe. Lots of movement, Dash commands available fairly quickly or moves to the E Jet. Fairly good part time options too.

Is there actually an increasing interest in becoming a pilot at the minute?

Personally know of two pilots who have moved from the ATR and Dash 8 over to the 737 and Embraer in recent months. Airlines want pilots, it seems their usual requirements are like jelly at the moment and they're open to non-jet applicants. The two airlines taking said prop pilots were Thomson and KLM. Don't be put off by the prop jobs. I've been swayed towards them in recent months.. and no, not by an FTO.. by real pilot accounts.

Hi guys,
I'm sorry if i asking out of topic question.

I'm from indonesia and of course i didn't have the unrestricted right to live and work in europe. But i'm able to train for a programme from CTC.

My first question is, i'm obviously cannot work for any europe airlines if i'm not having the right correct ?

Second, am i able to work as a flight instructor or any other jobs which is not related to aviation ? Part time jobs maybe ? McDonalds ?

I need to live at least 5 years in europe (UK) to became a resident and able to obtain an european passport, then i'll have my work permit. I mean i want to work to fill those 5 years rather than i'm doing nothing. Is it possible ?

Trevor,

How old are you?

Correct. You don't, at the moment, have the right to live and work in Europe.

No. You don't have the right to live and work in Europe. You are not going to be approved for a work visa

https://www.gov.uk/tier-2-general

to work at Mcdonalds!!

You will be eligible for a work visa if you are qualified to undertake one of the jobs on this list and can persuade a UK company to hire and sponsor you for a visa.

How are you going to pay for CTC if you get British Citizenship? Do you have the money already? I'm not sure you appreciate the magnitude of what you're trying to get yourself into here.

I'm 20.
My uncle paid me for my flight school, he already have the money.
What's the easiest way on your opinion to get an unrestricted right to live and work in europe based on my condition ?

Trevor, further to my last

these are the airlines that are apparently currently hiring in Indonesia - allegedly quite actively, even if they are only taking qualified pilots then talk to them, ask for a meeting with a pilot maybe - at their convenience - to get advice on what to do. When they realise that you have money for training and that you are serious then some of them will give you some very sound advice. one thing I know about Indonesians is that they are very proud and they all want to see their own citizens fly their own airliners!

Airfast
Airmark
Aviastar
Batavia Air
Wings Air
Citilink (Garuda)
Cargo Garuda Indonesia
Deraya Air Taxi
Dirgantara Air Service
Express Air
Garuda
Kalimantan Air Service
Lion Air
Kartika Airlines
Merpati Nusantara Airlines
Riau Airlines
Sky Aviation
Sriwijaya Air
Susi Air
TransNusa Air Services
Transwisata Prima Aviation
Travira Air
Trigana Air Service

qualifications ICAO commercial license (FAA preferred)
qualifications Instrument rating
qualifications single-engine or multi-engine rating (multi-engine rating is NOT required for employment in airlines)
qualifications Night rating
qualifications 190+ hours of flight time
qualifications ICAO-4 English proficiency
qualifications Indonesian citizens or permanent residents preferred!
qualifications Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia is preferred!

Those last two points might seem like supernumeraries but in some countries they propel you to the top of the list!!

Good Luck!
Have you just copied every carrier you can find?

e.g. Dirgantara Air Service AOC was revoked years ago

Merpati ceased trading years ago too!!!!

You mean Bali International Flight School ? Yes that's one of the most well-known flight school in Indonesia. I have some friends train in there. The costs is not as high as CTC but it'll only get me a CPL.

I thought pilot working for any Indonesian airlines has the lowest salary than in other countries, that's why i wanted to train outside my county and fly for european airlines. But that was just my dreams.

Many people suggest me to train on Qatar MPL scheme, but some said it'll be a very long time until they re-open their scheme.

So where did you train now ?

Terimakasih, you can speak bahasa ?

Thank you for the list, i will contact them to ask for their advice.
These are the common qualification for all those airlines aren't ?

Since BIFA (bali international flight school) just offered their cadets only CPL, what if i train in CTC under Integrated ATPL programme, and after i graduate i apply for work in Indonesian airline, is that possible ? And if i'm not mistaken, CTC cadet will have an EASA approved license, should i convert it to FAA ?

Trevor, as an Indonesian national you do not need to consider any integrated course. If the Indonesian CAA accept a FAA license? then go and do a FAA CPL IR at much less expense than the EASA CPL IR. If you have trouble getting the visas to train in America then an EASA license may have to be considered. But you can do your EASA CPL and IR by the modular route you will spend half of the amount that OAA or CTC charge. You could then add an ATR and or a 737 type rating and still spend less than going to CTC or OAA.
