A word of advice anyone???
Hey All,
I'm a low hour pilot about 600, recently been sponsored for a Super King Air rating & been waiting from last four months to start working.
When I try to contact the person he says repeatedly that he's going to organize everything pretty soon; next week & so on. Next week the same story from last four months.
Now, as I'm new to this trade, I wanna know if its normal for companies to take this long OR should I start looking out-side for work.
Thank you ALL

ha ha! (ei-flyer) - seriously though, if they've gone to the trouble and expense of paying for your type rating on the Beech, surely it will be in their interest to recoup their investment in you at some point and get some work out of you? In addition, if you've got the TR try every Kling-Air operator that exits regardless of who sponsored you. No?

Not normal but does happen. I waited about three months after training on their aircraft before starting as contract they had got kept getting pushed back for various reasons. Talk to the guy and ask what the problem is. Are you getting paid? If not ask for a retainer, just a token amount really eg couple hundred pounds a month. Did they pay for your rating already? If so don't worry. Did you pay for your rating?

Hey Joe,
They paid for it, all of it, including food & lodging ...but since then no money at all...I'm pretty sure they would like to recover their money as "finalapproach" said..my problem is carrying myself through this time...& it was already so tough convincing someone to pay for my rating in this market...now I don't wanna scare them away by asking retainer...I mean jobs are still hard to find even if you have just a rating & no actual hours...

I`m sure they want their money`s worth, but it doesn`t often happen that you keep on getting postponed after you have the TR. A bit strange, but we don`t know the details. Maybe you should ask them what`s the hold up? And, if they are reasonable people, you could ask if it`s ok with them if you do some freelance flying on the Kingair to get some hours and currency on it? And be ready when they call you in? You don`t have to appear to be a badguy at all, just curious and eager to get out of the blocks

"is it normal?" Well in my experience (3 decades), it is all too normal.
This industry boasts the worst management of any I can imagine and as I see you are standing at 600 (hours!) all I can say is get used to it. There are many more frustrating moments ahead of you!

Well
Congrats on that one.
Yes it's normal and I'm guessing they are trying to start up a new route? a new company? maybe no AOC from the CAA just yet? Aircraft still tech for X reasons?
To be fair if someone has sponsored your rating then you have a bit of an obligation to stick with that company.
If of course you haven't got a temp job and are running out of dosh... I suggest finding something not related to flying to get some cash flow.

Thanks Kelly & OneIn60,
Obligation is precisely the reason I am sticking with this one...I don't want some one to feel that financing me is bad deal..also more importantly looking for work is a tall order today...don't wanna go back to instruction, especially when I tried everything I knew, to get out of it...
Lets see...I used to wish; to find some one to fund me..now this looks like a new venture from here..i have a hunch that this trade is not gonna lemme rest....

I guesss this is a first officers position on a kingair. BE200
otherwise if it was a commander position then you cannot fly paxs IFR until you have 700hrs, etc EU ops 1.960
anyway
I believe you need to 10 main routes as a checkout.
Have you done a dangous goods course? likley you will need this as well if you havn't? worth checking? this could hold you up..
you may want to see read EU OPS rules. likely they could be holding you back because of new routes or the right person for you to be checkout doing these 10 main routes.
Or even they may have put you through the course thinking the level of flying hours would remain the same. instead the number of flying hours on there aircraft is too low to untake another pilot at the present time.
Is your company flying lots yes or no, are they flying muiltible aircraft at a time? are the current pilots flying lots or very little?
hope these questions could help to work out your answer?

Hey Flyingspeed,
Thanks for the reply, I didn't knew a few of those thanx a ton for letting me know...lets see
First Officer Yes (BE20 13 Hours)
As I was told; I was suppose to fly with the a capt. carrying pax.
Dangerous Goods Done
Company Flies a lot different A/c yes
Not a lot of flying presently..its basically charters
No EU rules to concerned as this not in EU .but I think the insurer might have something to do with it...
Also I just got to know that 3 other pilots they employed recently also waitng on sideline. A capt. BE20 included . That provides a little comfort..I think I'm gonna also build a database of people might need a BE20 first officer...just in case this tumbles....
How difficult it would be to find work for a person with my resume????
