But what the scary thing is, what if we get a confirmation email with a different date? Ie Sunday the 24th instead of the 25th

Is anyone just a little suspicious of this whole thing, im only asking because with all the pilot lay offs, the tax free perks of living in dubai, ect why would they need to train us. I mean I understand why the nationals get this program but for us, is anyone just a little worried about this whole thing?

Who was saying 4 x 12 = 48 intakes for 2009?? Because according to this job description, the intake has decreased a good 50%
The 4 courses for next year and the excess places on a November course this year was straight from the horse's mouth at the EU assessment days. They also mentioned that if anything the requirement would increase.
Moreover this application says 24 per year - which indicates a rolling programme so if it were to refer to the Worldwide cadet programme it would in effect be an increase in the availability of courses.
Etihad has just put in one of the biggest ever orders for Aircraft - it would seem unlikely that they would be looking to cut any recruitment plans at this stage at least.
Plus I think it best we don't worry too much about what they might be planning and just hope for the best in getting the places that are available - this is a fantastic opportunity and was always going to be competitive anyway.

For any of the guys from europe, I put Oct/Nov as my preferred time for the second stage. Has anyone who put August down received a confirmation and a date for the second stage yet?

nope , I wrote I am ready for august but I don't have any new since the little missunderstanding of last week and it sounds we are quite some people like that. I don't know how is it for you guys but I live with a bag packed close to the door of my flat... for the end of august this gonna be a very hot scramble ! checking the emails twice a day, good luck for everybody travelling to JFK and good patience for the europeans !

I would not put too much faith in the 24 cadets per year, its does not sound right in any way, in fact I would go as far as to say its not correct, I would believe what you heard in EU.
As for those of you waiting for the US, I have heard you will have it confirmed on Wednesday. How many do you think will come, It takes in Canada, the US, South America and all places in between doesnt it?
Those waiting for the EU round 2 from my understanding is do not panic would be best advice, if its not until Sept it would be for a good reason and not just to make you stress more!!

Ok ive been to the UAE before and i know how these guys operate and if there were a thousand applications from uae nationals they would not be putting us ahead of them. Second this makes no damn sense to me why they would do this there are enough pilots who have been through training that why the hell do they need us. I mean seriously.

This morning I visited the Etihad road show at its stop in Chicago to talk to anyone remotely associated with the cadet program, and of course no one there was. I know that the point of these recruitment events is to attract current airline FO's and CA's but I would've kicked myself if I didn't at least make an effort to try and speak to someone at Etihad. And boy did I feel out of place in a room full of pilots old enough to be my father, all asking me what airline I flew for, what I was type rated in lol. The nice lady who I met with did know the guy (she said his name, but I forgot it) that will be in NY with the cadet program but she didn't know any info on further stages, amount of cadets that will be selected, etc. She did advise me to practice my math though. Even more surprising, she told me that another guy visited her yesterday looking for the same information. If anyone posting on these boards is from the Chicago area, PM me.

Think about it this way, what rich kid would want to give up driving his ferrari everyday to fly a plane on a schedule, doing a job where he is serving not himself, but others? That is probably why the Etihad cadet program has gone international. I was reading an artical about a female who is already in the cadet program and she said ever since she went on a zero-g flight at a UAE airshow in Al Ain she wanted to fly.....what teen can afford to go on those zero-g flights? and I think it was in a 727 those flights are pretty expensive. It's for reasons like this that Etihad wants you to pay them back for your training if you don't make it through! Ther are many who want to fly but not i nthe UAE.
And as far as your other comments Narayan, all I have to say is don't apply that'lll leave a higher chance for the rest of us to get through.

Through to the second stage and replied to say August dates were good for me. Sadly, it's getting to the point that I won't be able to go, August ends in a week and I can't just have four days off from my current job! Not liking this bit!

DenizD, u nailed it.
I lived in the UAE for about 10 years and let me share my experience, alll locals are balling out of control. They dont have to pay for water/electricty/ etc. they have exclusive rights over every other nationality, they get "Local Allowance" at whatver job they have. I even heard they have special cards which allowas them to buy stuff (ie groceries) for cheaper than the rest of society.... You cant open a business there unless its under a local persons name, if u do open something under a local, theyll most probably ask anything from 1% to 10% of profits, etc etc etc There are many many more privledges they have , too long to list...
My local friend signed up with a govt. education program, b/c his high school avg was higher than a B (ie >=70%), the UAE govt sent him to the states to study finance for 4 years, gave him $12,000 moving allowance and $4,000 a month for the 4 years he's there (this excludes the education/accomodation costs) and upon arrival, as an award, he is promised a $100,000 payment. And the condition for all this is that he has to work in a government dept. for 2 years for , as he put it himself, minimum wage of 80,000dhs a month!!! Thats over $20,000 a month

When do you know you have passed the first stage... do they tell you right after... and what is in the second stage.... does that mean your going to abu dhabi and that you are hired....? and by the way its going down in New York.... see all the north americans there...
