Whatever phase 1 "actually" is, the fact remains that no one got shortlisted. Therefor, no one made it past phase 1 because the "shortlisting" hasn't been done.

Dude, I am not an Etihad Employee. I don't have an inside scoop for you, though I wish I did. I know as much as everyone else on this board.

But yaa, personal opinion, go for it. Why not? You have nothing to loose by writing down your qualifications/experience. (It's a good thing)

I just hope that everyone gets a fair shot at this, and that it's not only internal hiring for this program. That would be an extreme bummer. All this anticipation and excitement, hope we all get at least a fair chance.

Someone mentioned quite early on in the thread that they are having housing difficulties for staff? I have applied to this scheme and have been doing some research, I have founnd that Ex-Pats are NOT allowed to buy property in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, unlike Dubai. Ex-Pats can only rent?

Of course Etihad provide company accomodation but where is this, what is it like, who is it with (another law I have found is that in the UAE you cannot live with a member of the opposite sex unless you are married!?)

What I have read about the internet screening, lack of freedom of speech (media) and the fact that it is an offence for an Ex-Pat to say anything remoletely condescending about a national. Also, take a look at this http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/topstor...9520-20312333/

I don't want to come accross as disrespectful to any other culture or religion here, I am a Police Officer in the UK and consider myself to be well travelled and somewhat cultured. However, the UAE do state they are a 'free' country, however I have seen some articles recently that have left me concerned as to whether or not I want to live there.

Anybody with more knowledge or currently in the UAE, can you enlighten me on this please?

Thanks

To adsSW

I was born, lived in Abu Dhabi for almost 20 years...& now studying in Dubai...I confirm that it is not likely for an Ex-Pat to speak in POLITICS, as this country was built on a Politics Stability...if politics act the way it acts in Europe or US...this country will go into a mess (not my idea, somebody working somewhere in here said it)...thus Petrol Prices will Double...Triple up...& this is what US, Europe & the Far East countries don't want...so they left everything as it is.

The Police are VERY friendly over here, but most of them are not good english speakers...if you've done anything wrong or even Looked like that, you might be asked (interrogated) then Left OR Jailed for sometime for some good reason...don't know about their work & how they do that, but if you compare it with how UAE Nationals are treated in Heathrow Airport or JFK Airport...IT IS NOTHING...I visited NY in Feb. 08, & had a lots of "extra processing" time (I lost my other flight to NC)...why? because of my Arabic Passport.

About Housing; Etihad has some difficulties in the housing in ABU DHABI (not AL AIN - cadet pilot trainig Area-), Etihad is building one of most Luxurios residences in the Middle-East called Abraj Towers where over 3000 EY staff will be situated near the airport, while the others are situated infornt of the Sea in Abu Dhabi Island.

Away from these points, it is a good country to work in, get to know more people from MANY countries, live a Luxurious & very safe life (LOW Criminal records). Trust me AVIATION personnel in this country are WELL paid & appreciated...but nothing is as perfect than somebodies mother (Native) country.

GOOD LUCK

One has to respect other cultures when in another country. If you are not comfortable living in such an environment then it is best to consider this before applying to such a scheme.

Abu dhabi is not europe! I lived there for 14 years myself. The people are not "open minded" ... Another thing i really dislike is that there are NO FEMALES THERE! Hoenstly i did not see much females there. I googled this and on wikipedia i got "abu dhabi has the highest gender imbalance in the world"!!

So you better be planning on importing a wife, or finding one in dubai
I think you can buy property now, or what is know as "99 year lease" whihch means you dont exactly own the property , but you can hold it for 99 years or somthing like that.

I still like Abu dhabi b.c it is my hometown pretty much I have friends and relatives there.

Hope this helps.

punit,
copy and paste the email they sent you. I highly HIGHLY doubt you are telling the truth...theres almost 10,000 applicants. You either get shortlisted, or not . You will recieve a generic message/email whether you got in or not .

I know people have been getting emails, but this just sounds too funny

Hey dbl dbl,

It may be possible that Punit got the detailed information after mailing to the email posted by Punit earlier. Although, Punit, mark it that post-shorlisting mail is an computer generated mail and does not provide a reason for the denial.

Hey Punit,

Pls confirm as how did u get to knw the reason for the refusal?

Harsh times, even I'm out!!!
