Anyone know what the wooden posts are for that have being errected toward the back of the car park lining the engineers porta cabins?

Couple of company cars still there given the rust on the disc brakes plus the engineers vehicle.

Nobody has canx the milk either as it's creeping out of the bottle tops. Who should have canx'd that or do the administrators still have deliveries?

Any news of any buyers. All looks a bit sad with those aircraft impounded:{

All a bit final eh. Time to move on chaps.

The wooden posts were put there by the Airport Authority so that we could comply with DfT regulations i.e. cars must be parked 3m from the perimeter fence line.

Not if they are looking to use it as a staff car park???

straightnotlevel 4th July 2006 11:24

but there isnt any staff, bit of good news is that a payment went into the bank, still waiting on holiday & duty pay tho, and the shortfalll from basic weekly payment of wages.

OPSQUEEN 4th July 2006 16:38

Has anyone had a P60 yet which should have been issued at the end of May? I've just been getting loads of excuses as to why they haven't been issued - I dont know what today's excuse is but come on Payroll Dept and/or KPMG, you are all still on site. Those of us claiming Tax Credits and college EMA grants for our children need to have sent this info in for August or we lose our claims. What is the problem???

Good news for anyone dreading the JEM Accountable Manager getting a similar position elsewhere.

I am reliably told that the CAA will not approve any form 4 application that he would have to make to become an AOC post holder again, certainly in the near future, that goes for a few of his other lackeys that should never have held the positions they had in the first place.

All of those that have been stabbed in the back down the years can also sleep better in the knowledge that when this all kicked off one of the potential buyers strung him along to try and get him to sweet talk pilots, engineers and customers while behind his back they went to the CAA telling them that they didnt want anything to do with the clown and had no intention of keeping him after KPMG had given him the boot.

Anyone still a bit pissed off, trust me, your future is WAY better than that of our old friend.

Is it not strange that KPMG who are responsible for 'restructuring' have not made any contact with a vital part of any restructuring - the pilots???:uhoh: Do they know how many are left?

'Restructuring' to KPMG means selling to the highest bidder, that is all.

Unfortunately the Car boot sale that was JEM is such an unmitigated mess that the price is sinking by the day.

Oh and DISAGREE if you are so involved at JEM like you say, you will appreciate that my posts on here have been a fair and accurate reflection of the shambles that JEM has become over the past months, and indeed even before. Its a shame that YOU and others couldnt have been a bit more honest with those at the coal face, most have been kept up to date by people not even employed by the company, if I were you I would cosider changing your name to ASHAMED, if indeed you are even involved at all.

ATP and ATR Pilot Hiring

Gentlemen,

Have just been looking through the newspaper here in Luxembourg and saw the following ad:-

WEST AIR LUXEMBOURG
The West Air group continues to expand
The West Air group consists of two rapidly expanding dedicated cargo airlines; West Air Sweden AB and West Air Luxembourg S.A. Today we are one of Europe's leading cargo airlines in our segment 3-9 tonnes. Within a couple of months we will operate close to 30 aircraft; BAe ATP, HS748 and ATR under our own AOCs.

For our continuing expansion in Europe, we need:

Pilots on the ATP and the ATR to the following bases: Munich, Marseille, Paris, Vienna and Oslo
Minimum requirements: Captains 3,000 hrs total flight of which 1,000 turbine and first officers with 500 hrs total flight of which 200 turbine.

Please send your application to:

Personnel & Administration Manager Claudia Langhard
West Air Sweden AB
Box 5433
SE- 402 29 Goteborg

or via e-mail: [email protected] not later than July 12th, 2006.

Good luck to all. I know how it feels. I've been in that boat for some time now!

So everyone is wrong about Emeralds AOC getting pulled and all the aircraft grounded, staff without a job, that is all in our minds.Funny the last time i was in Liverpool the ATP and 748 both had vehicles blocking any attempt to move them?.Maybe we all should go and get our eyes checked

Yak97 10th July 2006 09:34

Re West Air

I don't think their expansion is linked to any acquistion of ex Emerald aircraft.

I believe they are taking 3 se Sun-Air ATP's and have a contract in Spain for some HS748's.

Could be wrong though

So the highest bidder and KPMG are not that interested in the availability of Crews? I wonder why?

Check KPMG site later today?

West Air are phasing out the 748 in next 6 months and will have 10 more ATPs over same period.

Unfortunately the massive expense that is entailed in putting some of the aircraft back in the sky has scared many of the potential bidders away, for that the blame solely lies with the Accountable Manager of JEM.

Several potential buyers HAVE spoken to crews, but how can you offer someone a job when the aircraft you are buying may not fly for 4 months ?

One operator based in the Gatwick area HAD plans to put a good few aircraft back into the sky both HS748 and SD3-60, but that was killed by the expense of the project, and indeed the on-going bun fight over who owns what, (i.e props, engines etc etc) that arguement could go on for months, if not years. As a result many of the aircraft will be scrapped or I suspect if the only credible deal now left on the table goes through, will fly overseas.

GBALU53 10th July 2006 18:48

Not Scrapped

I and many others would hope some of the older aircraft are not scrapped but kept alive by the British Government and put some of our finest aircraft into memory like museums around the world.

British aviation has taken so many nocks and we do not have many left so they need to be kept.

Like so many things if only the British Government would help where help is needed we would still have a number of airlines that have past away,

Why don't KPMG donate an airframe to Duxford? Isn't a charitable donation some sort of tax benefit?

Perhaps because you are an annoying little tw*t with an obvious personality disorder (apart from more IDs than you can 'shake a stick at') and completely miss the actual purpose of this thread which is to swap relevant information primarily between the poor sods (and their affected families) who have lost their jobs in this collapse of a fairly major operator.

So please go and play somewhere else (or get help) - you offend me, let alone the people who are directly involved in this sorry situation.

If there was ever a justification for bringing back the 'report to moderator' button you are it !

Mods - when you see and delete Disagree's post above please feel free to take mine with it.

Sad to See

I've been watching the thread and am sad to see the demise of Emerald. As another ex-JEM I know the problems entailed in keeping the operation running. I also remember the massive improvement brought about by MOB when he arrived - we went from 1 trip per frame per night to 2 to 3 (so I probably know Phileas?). The problem was, then, that the incipient pax op to the IOM and the ad-hoc charter was a step in the dark which the company, frankly, didn't really have the depth to undertake - with, shortly afterwards, only 3 or 4 crews really up to carrying out the pax jobs. Despite that, it was reasonably successful (even tho the first ever pax flight was completed with only 1 passenger and the new ac at the time, G-OJEM, took a bad birdstrike on its first positioning departure that wrecked the radome and the new paintjob (beautifully handled abort by DD, though) and had to be replaced with a far shabbier frame!). At that time the much villified MOB was, certainly, no autocrat and rarely did anything entailing ac usage without asking the opinion of a management pilot. If things changed so dramatically thereafter maybe the change was induced from above.. who knows.
Suffice to say, as with most airlines, it was always staffed with guys trying to be as professional and proficient as possible no matter what. My feelings go out to the guys, gals, and spouses, having to deal with the fallout. The very best of luck to you all.

:hmm:
I joined just as DW (Chief Pilot) was retiring. He followed BK in that role, i believe. Both excellent in their job and at keeping that vital distance between the crew/aircraft and MOB. The big change, in my opinion, was the appointment of a succession of weak individuals to various Management Pilot roles. This enabled MOB to interfere with crew/aircraft decisions. In turn we then saw safety margins eroded and able post holders being ousted - it became a vicious circle. Once established as the invisible but effective Chief Pilot, MOB would occasionally appoint an able management pilot, but each of those quickly came to realise that their opinion was not required - don't try to interfere but just sit quietly and take the money. From years ago the decline in safety and the Company's fortune was obvious to all, except MOB, and i suppose AJ.
I wholly agree with your assessment of the Crews and most of the Ops/Engineers/Rampies as always trying to do the most professional job with the resources available. Although as time went on most of those who stayed were, i think, forced to do things they would never have done a few years earlier under the old regime.

Just a snippet to anyone still interested the deal hasnt gone through this week, but I am told that it will be all wrapped up this coming Monday.

With only one bid still on the table, they certainly got a good price.

So where does this leave all the engineers that have been hanging on in there???? and what about Emerald Towers?? looks like the airport might get the land after all.

dogwhistle 13th July 2006 21:50

Best wishes to all JEM staff that I had the pleasure to work with in the late 90's and early 00's. I hope all turns out ok for you all. An operator I am working with in East Africa is looking for a 748 pilot; if anyone is interested in a tour of duty in that part of the world, send me a PM.

Say again s l o w l y 13th July 2006 23:14

From memory I dont think Emerald Towers was ever on the list of saleable assets (I could be wrong) although the contents certainly were. I imagine that the Airport will try to get in there once the deal is done.

Interestingly the Lexus was not on that list either:rolleyes:

I am sure that Airwing will have a bit of work for the engineers, certainly getting permits to fly for some of the aircraft will take a few months anyway !

As most of the aircraft will be going overseas i'm not exactly sure what will happen to JEM Engineering, the rumour of a sort of Management buyout seems to have gone pretty quiet.

Bedlamair 15th July 2006 20:28

You Could be Right

[quote=MOB P45]:hmm:

You could well be right. Neither of the 2 Chief Pilots you mention were men that would lightly (ie at all!) allow any interference from above to effect the line operational standards. In fact, at that time, there was a strong management pilot team that supported each other and positively enforced a system whereby any matter to do with Flight Crew was routed through their offices. There was always the potential for, maybe, weaker personalities to have bent under such pressure.

Still, that's just autopsy now. Take strength all those affected by GEM's demise, there's life after Emerald (Danny can testify to that!).
