Beijing ordering a full HK lockdown, this is going to get VERY nasty now. I strongly advise all partners/kids/dependants to leave HKG immediately before you get dragged into this permanently. No child will ever recover from what is about to happen to them.
CX to cease operations for March is my guess and borders completely shut during city-wide testing and isolation. Covid-zero to be further enforced when Omicron burns through the city and HKG can claim victory against the virus. THEY will not lose face. |
Have they? Can you post a source, I read they are considering it if no improvement within two weeks and agree that probably means it's coming. Leave the sensationalist headlines to the tabloid papers.

THEY will not lose face. and how will the subdivided flats and caged dwellers be fed? Street sleepers of which there are thousands. Who will be preparing the meals? as for children never recovering, this is not Syria and full blown bombardment. They are not witnessing their parents dragged away or blown to shreds get a fvvvking grip |
Well they have already seen their parents taken away as the children were taken under government care to hospital.
Full lockdown is more difficult to enact in HK for several reasons, one being Hong Kong's dependence on imported food. Locking down Xian is relatively easy when the government can ship supplies in from 100km away. More tricky across the Shenzhen border, as we are already seeing from the empty shelves. Also with 25% of the population living in poverty the conditions, when you tell people to stay indoors, get insanitary quickly. Ten to a toilet can lead to some impressive covid figures. There will be further lockdowns, but not a full Wuhan type. More like London Spring 2020. My 2c worth |
3000 preliminary cases today. Ramping up.
In other news: France drops covid-19 testing for fully vaxed UK travellers. This means you can now travel to and from France from the UK without ANY testing. It's all coming to an end. Edit: Not 3000 prelim cases yet, fake news, 1347 new cases, 1500 plus prelim cases. but I also suspect testing has bottlenecked, so there are delays in the reporting of new cases. |

omicron doubles approximately every 2-3 days. There’s no controlling it now in HKG. The good news is it peaks fast and causes milder disease (although most countries where it’s ripped through have high vaccination take up).

Maybe, but is this a reliable source or fake news?

It is the most illogical thing to do, so I am assuming it must be real..

It's complete madness, so they test everyone, then what. It won't eliminate COVID, positive people will still travel home from the test centre and infect others who may have tested negative or just provided a negative sample. Idiotic.
|
And the testers aren’t required to be vaccinated. Stop bloody testing. And move on. Along with the rest of the planet

From the Washington Post today:
Experts inside and outside the territory say that Hong Kong’s approach will not work; on one hand, it is not restrictive enough to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, and on the other, it is not forward-looking enough to shift to mitigation and focus on vaccinations to end the pandemic. Ooi Eng Eong, an infectious-disease expert at the Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore, said that keeping with zero covid indefinitely is “not possible” and only makes sense if it is a measure to buy time to get the vaccines distributed. Hong Kong’s elderly also have a serious vaccination problem — only about half of those between 70 and 79 and about a quarter of those over 80 have been fully vaccinated. The official focus on zero covid had many thinking they wouldn’t need the vaccines. Instead of focusing on vaccinations, city authorities kept ties to the outside world at an absolute minimum, neglected to boost hospital capacity and focused on scapegoating, including an ill-advised culling of the hamsters widely kept as pets because they might be a source of infection. David Owens, a founding partner of OT&P Healthcare, which is among the biggest private health-care providers in Hong Kong, wrote in a recent blog post that the “reluctance to consider scenarios other than a return to zero Covid is the antithesis of prudence.” “Vaccinations work, and they are the only long-term solution,” he wrote, urging the government to acknowledge that zero covid is a “temporary state.” |

HTF can you test 7.5 million people ? Let’s say you find 60,000 hitherto unknown cases. What are you going to do with them ?
John11.35. Old curry “Tin Ear “ Lam has completely lost the plot. |
Meanwhile most European countries are getting rid of most, if not all, regulations that are in place due covid. Despite record numbers of positive tests the hospitals aren’t filling up with covid patients. Even carnaval and festivals are allowed (depending per country)
Omikron is basically treated as a flu now. |
The next variant on Omicron (BA2) is showing signs it could be more severe than plain Omicron. The govt here would do better getting as many people fully vaccinated (with BioNTech) and those that don't want to should be offered a quarantine space or a hotel room until the Omicron/BA2 strain passes - the rest of us should be allowed to restart our lives.

Bunch of clowns trying to run a government. |
A HK taxi driver today of mature years (65-70?) said he had at last got a first vaccination, because he was afraid of it before. "I hope it wasn't Sinovac, it is almost ineffective against Omicron" said my medical spouse in her inimical sensitive bedside manner. "Oh yes" replied the baba, "They said that only Sinovac is used on older people, the Biontech is bad for older people."
Well I suppose if you have a warehouse full of Sinovac that no-one wants you may as well flog it off to people who don't understand the science. Poor guy thinks he is immune now. |

The great unwashed here haven’t heard of that variant. And frankly they don’t care. I know which system I’d rather have. |

If you look at the SCMP chart which tracks the dosage by number and type, you’ll see that the Sinovac uptake is significantly higher than the Pfizer one.
The mind boggles. Much of the ME and other recipients of China’s debt trap/ sorry, wonderful Belt and Road scheme have also used Sinovac. The mind does indeed boggle. |
The useless old people in HK have finally started to get vaccinated hence the uptake of sinovac is higher

What on earth is this for in Kowloon Bay? To ensure everyone gets the same strain? How long do they expect people to stay on the bed? It makes Squid Game look like a holiday camp. Why would you want to have anything to do with the country? |
Penny bay doesn't seem so bad now...

The government have been busy testing everyone for Covid and have found lots and lots. Covid has been testing the government for signs of an intelligent , competent and coherent plan to deal with it and found nothing. There is no government exit strategy from this, just more restrictions, more restrictions, more restrictions. Two years and this is all looking like Groundhog Day.

And why does it need six people to oversee and supervise all those empty beds? |

Compulsory mass testing in March. April will bring something worse. May will bring something much worse. |

Why would you want to have anything to do with the country? Remember Dr. Campbell says try not to get infected too late as our immunity wanes from earlier vax. |

What would happen, if you've resigned, and your visa expires while you're in mandatory quarantine/isolation?... asking for a friend

Cury Lamb miss Lamb, pack your bags and leave now. This giant coming wave of madness hasn't even fully begun yet. If you have little kids, pack a bag and leave. If you have a husband at CX, give him a high five and say bye, you can get another one later :}

So if your kid gets sick, make sure you get sick too, got it..
