Gents I cannot help but comment on what appears to be target fixation. You have to work Christmas day, whether in an actual cockpit or a sim. Happens to many of us. I guess there may be some justification if this is a change to a past schedule where the sim was stood down for Christmas. If it is, than a justifiable whinge if not then ??????

The point is this :

1.Office staff ( who get a 3% pay increase ) dont work on Xmas Day
2. Cabin crew ( who get a 3% pay increase ) dont do ground duties on Xmas Day
3. Managers ( who will get an undisclosed envelope in the mailbox ) do not work on Xmas Day
4. The sim engineers ( who get a 3% pay increase ) have minimal coverage on Xmas Day ( ie no essential maintenance).
5. HAS drivers( who get a 3% pay increase ) are running a skeleton schedule on Xmas Day
6. Sim instructors ( who get a 3% pay increase ) have carefully orchestrated their rosters so only 2 are working on Xmas Day. PS Thank you Chris Ayres.
7. Airport staff and check-in staff ( who get a 3% pay increase ) are working skeleton shifts on Xmas Day.

So why the f***k should pilots be rostered to fly the sim on Xmas Day. The 3x777 sims have one single duty oiut of a possible 18 slots on Xmas Day. Dont know about the Airbus but the A350 is rented out to Virgin Atlantic for most of the time.

Sim Instructors get the same pay increases as line FO's, so no pay increase.

You have already been found to be a false "Oracle" with no 13th month etc, give it up you "Know" nothing.

finestkind 14th Dec 2018 04:21

unitedabx,I commiserate with you and appreciate what appears to be the unfairness of the situation. I understand the need to vent. But the choice is yours.
If the Cabin staff, managers, ground crew, etc., have got it so good, sign up.

To be in your own bed a lot of nights doing 80 hours in NZ on over $24k a month doesn’t seem all that bad. What am I missing?

Ok. It needs to be said. The grammar in your post is appalling. What on earth are you trying to say?

Air New Zealand.
One of you continually whinges about conditions on an A320 in New Zealand, has anyone read their EBA? It doesn’t appear so.

for a start it isn't called an EBA in New Zealand... and secondly, the pay isn't even close to what you claim on the 320 even as a senior capt on the bus. So you don't know what you are talking about.

Thirdly, you will be entering on FO year 1 pay which doesn't even break 10k.

in fact, a CX FO or CAPT will be going back to earning less than what a 1st year c-scale SO earns at CX.

and drinking in that fresh air, healthy food and fabulous outdoor environment with some modern workplace protections. I am surprised they are not working for free after being in the HK cesspit!

ElZilcho 20th Dec 2018 05:58

$24k Gross Per Roster (4 weeks) would be ~80 hours for a Year 12 Captain on the bus. So not likely... it'll also take ~16-18 years to achieve as you don't simply slide across to the same step you were on as an FO.
$10k for a year 4 FO however (an ATPL gets you onto Year 4 pay after 12 months) is ~65 hours so the norm.

As I said in a previous post, you wont get a payrise going from CX to Air NZ, but that's not why people are moving is it? Also, not sure what the allowances are like in CX, but ours are fairly decent. Many expats seem to note the total package isn't as bad as they thought when all factors are considered.

It's not how much goes into your account that's important, but how much is left in it that matters.

Toruk Macto 20th Dec 2018 09:41

Or how much is in account on departure Hong Kong ?

Asturias56 20th Dec 2018 13:19

If we go back to the original question it seems clear that no-one is happy at CX but they can't find a job that pays as well anywhere else............................ true?

Cpt. Underpants 20th Dec 2018 15:10

The point is (pay attention now) that hundreds (yes, hundreds) are leaving CX and starting with other (possibly) less well-paying jobs in their home countries because MONEY ISN'T EVERYTHING.
Quality of life counts for a lot. Life in a pokey apartment in a polluted, expensive city, working for a disfunctional, shockingly badly managed company ISN'T WORTH IT.

Asturias56 20th Dec 2018 16:47

Totally agree - I've made similar choices in my work history - but the pages of response to the OP suggests a lot of moaners are still in place...............

cxorcist 20th Dec 2018 17:14

Change is hard once already set up somewhere. If it were easy, CX would be a ghost town. Yes, it’s hard to replace the money straight away, but it’s easy to improve one’s lifestyle outside of Hong Kong. Yes, other big cities are expensive too, but you don’t have to live in them to work from them. HK is a very difficult commute from anywhere, especially on a CX roster with so many changes and very expensive staff travel. This is far easier and less expensive at most, if not all, other airlines.
