Coupled with a 15% sickness rate it must be getting tight

mngmt mole 21st Nov 2018 19:16

Fifteen percent sickness rate? If they don't pay the full 13th month they can expect that number to become eye watering. Count on it.

Hugo Peroni the IV 21st Nov 2018 23:42

If they don’t pay 13th month, all that will happen is another long Yammer thread of ineffective chest beating!

RAT Management 22nd Nov 2018 00:56

The cabin crew will get it.... That's for sure... You know why they get everything.... It's because they are the front line... If they are not happy then the passengers will be directly affected... But the pilots on the other hand. They are behind their locked door. Nobody see's their unhappiness. They keep turning up for 2 crew Wocl. They accept back to back Wocl flights with 15hour rest reduced from 24. The pilots are their own worst enemy. Nothing will change if you keep eating the **** sandwich. It's not about the union giving direction. It's about you and what you are willing to accept. If it's not right...if there is any doubt...there is no doubt. Time to be professional. If your professional you will force the change in the right direction. Rather than the ever descending spiral that is being forced by the accountants and computers claiming it's legal!

Oh just like what happened last year when they didn't pay it? Oh yeah.. nothing happened.

mngmt mole 22nd Nov 2018 03:47

No, actually a lot happened. Many of us made sure we were off "unfit" for at least a month or longer throughout this past year. Further, nearly all Captains quietly resolved to make sure the company suffered a notable increase in extra fuel/flight time etc. Was it enough? Probably not, but don't distort the facts by suggesting "nothing" happened. It is also safe to say that a similar attack by management this year will escalate things to a whole new level.

VforVENDETTA 22nd Nov 2018 09:53

Nothing happened? to date , 134,500 USD is what i a have personally exacted.. no 13th month? Oh it was paid. More than you think. It will be paid for as long as I'm here.

Apps out and when I leave cx in 2 months lucky to get a 2 week notice.

how much will all that cost?

Good luck cx.

As an ex B scaler who has since moved on I'm just interested in what the ratio of B scale to C scalers is in terms of people jumping ship? Has the AOA done a study? How many are putting up with the nonsense to enjoy the housing windfall?

OK4Wire 22nd Nov 2018 18:21

mngmt mole is correct. I keep hearing about people not being able to "get leave", and yet I got 10 weeks this year. Four of which I had total control over. Kind of hoping 13th month won't be paid again...

Don't forget it's also because of the double edged sword of low wages. CX pays the Cabin Crew so poorly that if they don't get the perks (allowances, long stays, 13th month etc.) then they just don't bother turning up for work / call in sick. They have far less invested in a CX career than the pilots (though that is in the rear-view mirror for us now). Cabin Crew are now waiting 20+ years to make SP, many will never make IM during their time at CX and this is sounding a lot like the Pilot "Career" path many Brushwingers are going to be facing. The job at CX is becoming a little quick earner / holiday job until you return to the career you studied for at University. Eat sandwiches, travel the world and enjoy the part-time job for a few years then go back to the job that will give you long term earning potential. This is broad-brush and there are certainly some joining with a commitment and interest in aviation but they are becoming the exception rather than the norm. A recent flight with an FO who told me that many are failing their Relief Check due to lack of preparation and not really taking seriously the "important step on your progress towards Command" that was hammered into me all those years ago. POS18 is targeted at the HK Local hires and has a lot of parallels to the Cabin Crew contract - CX will reap what it sows but that's for the next set of managers to worry about - So long and thanks for all the fish!

Mothy, well said. +1 from me.

Rationalise your relationship with these Swine and you’ll be a happier, healthier and wiser person.

As a good Kiwi mate of mine (who left CX after 10+ yrs to join Air NZ and never looked back) used to say, “don’t get mad, get even!”

Trafalgar 24th Nov 2018 08:01

Refer to the "Jellyfish has spoken" thread for my comment on resignation....Arrivederci.

A great question worth serious contemplation. I consider myself lucky enough that 6 years prior to having no choice - I am vacating the building and am off to greener pastures.
As with Traf, refer to the Jellyfish.

I have found that, to make a contented slave, it is necessary to make a thoughtless one. He must be able to detect no inconsistencies in slavery; he must be made to feel that slavery is right; and he can be brought to that only when he ceases to be a man.

Word to the wise

I applied thru the IntraCX for a reference letter for a tax loan ( most HK banks will ask for one now, apparently CX not a blue chip employer ) .Should get one within 4-5 working days. Not so, the secretary who deals with these requests told me more likely 2-3 weeks. Quote "I am am dealing with general employment refernce letters for all the pilots leaving" she told me. "There are hundreds" unquote.
