Not trying to pick a fight with my American colleagues but there is no reason we/they can't and a little thing called seniority! In addition, we have many Canucks in 'Merica and some Yanks in the great white north Eh! The company imposed the restrictions and it is not necessary. The USAOA will not be able to dictate whom gets those bases. WE/they can apply for a work visa and if approved cannot be stopped from coming. I would also agree that works both ways.

How would the Canadians feel if it were the other way around?

End of the year before the crack team of specialists can tell us what they will decide on bases. I wonder if there will be anyone left to give a base to....

Pathetic. 'Cost' or 'costs' came up in the few paragraphs 11 times by my count, along with a whine-fest about First World labour laws. And, implied, sickness rates had better decrease to keep your base viable, especially you Yanks and Canucks. No mention, of course, of the savings in housing, education and in many jurisdictions, government-subsidised health cover. Reserve? 'Costs' involved. Of course, Hong Kong-based crew diligently answer their phones in the hotels to cover disruption or roster change, unlike you based swine. And other single hub airlines like Singapore don't have basings and are sooo much better off (but we won't mention Hong Kong housing costs, the large expatriate proportion of the work force or the increasing CX crew turnover).

After yet another year's prevarication they will come up with a revised basing package with reduced conditions (e.g. long range PX in Coach/Economy) and a token few slots so that they can say they are not entirely lying when their lips are moving. This will help them attract more gullible newbies for those double-Second Officer crews, and will keep hope alive for the rest of the plebeians who decide to hang on in quiet desperation.

Too true. If you don't get you and your family away from HK, and into a proper legacy national carrier, you will cry bitter tears of regret in the years to come. That is not in doubt anymore. CX is dead.

Just read DP's basing's comments. In sum, a complete obfuscation, designed to try and keep pilots "hanging on" to their jobs in CX. There is NO hope of bases. They are dead. CX is planning their future on exploiting the weaknesses of the local HK population and other nationals, such as those from SA and similar. For those of us from the traditional expat recruitment nations, we are toast. Leave now, as there is no future for us.

Btw, to wait another 'year' for even a declaration of policy...?? That is another year of seniority you will lose at the eventual airline you will be employed by. That is a massive hit to your eventual career earnings.
