Just enough slots to make our young FOs and SOs stay, in hope they'll get a base one day.

Paying 8 LSL is peanuts compared to a proper housing allowance for new hires.

They have no control over it.
Hence there won't be any Oz bases on offer ever, unless the laws change in Oz regarding LSL. Or they pay out LSL in cash and work it against their Oz corp tax bill or something. Otherwise it's been 8 years and it'll be 50 more.

Quick, Decisive and Wrong!

Please keep in mind all the caveats in the bids. They can, they have, they will, do whatever they want. It includes type and/or base change. YOU WILL sign a new COS. It will include PX on the freighter. I will also assume you will sign housing away. The tax implications are huge too. If you want a base, without all the nonsense attached, you will have to leave. This is another attempt to reduce our terms and conditions. Remember the COS 08 debacle??? You do know that OZ and 'Merica have new agreements. 'Merica still does not have A days but yes they have a pension. They lost some benefits that SL from Flight crew services delivery snuck in when the 'Mericans went onshore. I am still trying to get my head around the Senior Freighter Captain thingy. The Yanks have said no? Not sure I understand it.

Buyer beware with this base bid. I honestly believe it's another trick.

Isn't Perth the base with no fatigue? (Submit ASR-Fs and we will close the base). I'm keen to get out of HKG, but not to Perth. I would also want to look very carefully at what the COS says.

LSL is not a cost problem. It is a manning level problem. I suspect the company is about to fix their crew shortage and CC training ban issues. Outsource training and checking, move A330s to Turkish Dragon.

ACMS 5th Dec 2016 06:27

Poor old anotherday..........

He doesn't realize Perth is part of Australia.

Although the east coast population think that Perth is way way over there somewhere!!

ACMS 6th Dec 2016 02:19

They could have closed the base and offered relocation to effected officers to other bases or HK.

They didn't, why? Because they know bases save money. Oh and they'll need approx 40% of the total crew on bases to make the CMP work correctly.

Get over it, you were and are wrong

Ok girls, stop fighting now

el commandante 6th Dec 2016 04:43

ACMS is on a base. You talk about yourself I guess...

Anotherday...........:D

mtc 6th Dec 2016 12:01

More importantly can Canadians be based in the US or what??

Avinthenews 6th Dec 2016 12:57

There's going to be stacks of bases in Australia!

Just not with CX (or KA for that matter).

Australia signs open a skies agreement with China | Australian Aviation

Chinese airlines will have unrestricted capacity into Australia after the federal government announced it had reached an agreement with China for an “open aviation market” between the two countries.
CX always has an angle, I imagine Perth is a fishing expedition targeted at just the right amount of expats, and to suitably dangle the carrot of future bases which will never come.

The best part, finally the loads will lighten up and an FOC might actually work, however CX will probably down size to keep the load factor up :ugh:

This not me but I am hoping someone in the know can answer my question.
54yr old A scale capt. Have not signed over to B scale but stayed on COS 99 with retirement age 55.
Can I take a Perth Base next year and in doing so sign over to 65 yr retirement ??
This not me.. Just thinking

Progress Wanchai 6th Dec 2016 17:33

PBPA 2008, 8.1 (a) answers that.

The answer is no whether you are on type or not. That is the company interpretation of the requirement to be able to serve two years at the base before retirement.

No

Ask the Rottweiler - he learnt the hard way...

Avinthenews 8th Dec 2016 02:29

So 76 crew applying for a total of 10 Perth positions.

I'm guessing that it requires a minimum of 20 years at the very least to be able to get a Perth base as a captain!

It'll be around 10-12 as an FO and that will include giving your dreams up of a shiny widebody command up!

New joiners, you just let that digest for a while.

It's almost like CX is fishing to see how desperate crew are to get out of Hong Kong and use the information to offer even worse conditions. No CX would never do that :D

coconutrough 8th Dec 2016 03:10

New Joiners are being told (and have been for some time) that they are interviewing for HK based positions and there will be no new base slots opening up in the foreseeable future, if at all. It obviously hasn't deterred any of them from coming here so far and I don't see that changing anytime soon, so as far as any suggestion for anyone to 'digest that for a while' - I doubt much will change.

If you read this thread you'd see most Aussies at CX are convinced there's dozens of base slots about to open in Oz any time now. The 7 in Perth are the trickle before the deluge.
Funny you should say that. The "My maaaaate in the Fleet office said that CMP calculated we need 40% of pilots on bases" rumour can only be heard from the irritating mouths of Aussies.

I applaud the optimism. The same optimism also driving the Rugby team when they play England.
