When I was an Effo, I tried several Times to leave the Flight deck as the last man ( matter of courtesy as you said). Yet I noticed many skippers entertained themselves in the seat long after all the checklists, goodbyes and salutes were exhausted. In that case I dismissed myself and went on my way. |

I think the term came from British India. The 'punkah wallah' was a servant who operated a flapping panel, the punkah, to force air through the punkah louvres, in order to fan the sahibs.
A punkah wallah character appears occasionally on the classic series, 'It Ain't Half Hot, Mum'. |
End of that long multi sector day. Paperwork complete. Charts put away. Pack up my bag, push the seat back and step out of the flight deck. Promptly called back to the flight deck and curtly reminded that the captain leaves the flight deck before the effo. |

However the CX navs were PER based not Halim or KL based. They used to join flights to YPPH there often, but not exclusively. G & F would some times join @ HKG and were used on other routes fm time to time. One of these box carrying star gazing characters was my surrogate grand dad. I was a CX brat from a time when Cx was a small and GREAT outfit.... sadly only nothing lasts forever. If I have missed this in your posts I stand corrected and am sorry for butting in. Also, sorry to deviate fm an otherwise harmless thread filled with a little light relief fm an occasional ego driven and sometimes pointless method of bringing the best out of a collection of professional and keen drivers. By the way, another very essential question a checker asked me: Airbus A330, do you know what those crosshairs mean on the panels in the overhead panel? Anyone knows?

Did the checker leave you hanging? If he didn't tell you, or didn't know himself, they are earthing points. You can sometimes 'fix' dodgy panel lighting by a tap on one.

The small x shows you where to press on that panel in case it isn't working properly. Probably also where to press when installing the panel.:ok:

Yep, same on the Boeing.
Used it the other day when part of the forward panel ( beside the DDRMI ) background lights were way too dim. Fixed it too. :ok: |
I've heard the same but obeying the Mantra - "Never miss an opportunity to, Shut the F#%€ Up" I never aired my thoughts. For Sunday giggles at my expense though - how come we need a specific place to touch a piece of metal to earth it bearing in mind that charge travels at ....."lightspeed divided by the square root of the surrounding dielectric constant", or "30-70% of c", or "like greased weasel bullets" depending on who you ask - Quick anyway??? Please resist the Pruners temptation to assume I'm Trolling or being Sarcastic but fire away with all barrels at my idiocy, I just don't know :confused:
