Question DEFO Process

Hi all,

Has anyone completed the entire process recently for DEFO? If so, could you please share some info, either here or PM me.

Anything relating to timeline, interview stages, SIM ride/profile, time from application to offer letter, HR/Tech questions.

Thank you.

Dear Aviators,

I have an upcoming 30 minutes interview with Cathay Pacific. Can someone please share their experience regarding questions (tech+non tech) that they will ask in the interview. Many thanks in advance.

No tech questions, think HR. what's your story, why CX, where will you live, fleet, route structure, have you been to HK before, will you be happy to fly A321 on short haul, how do you feel about the 10-12 year wait for a command? Very relaxed.

What? If you joined DEFO with an ATPL then the longest you will wait is 5 years to command.

Airbus and Boeing are sold out til 2030, maybe longer. So the orders on the CX books are pretty much all there is - and many of those are replacements for the 20+ year old 330 and 777

so growth will be modest for the medium term.

Spoke to a guy who got A321 and he is being offered command only 1.5 years after joining. Older guys still have to retire and unhappy people are still leaving (including DEFO's). Sure, time to command will increase eventually, but 12 years again? I don't see it, especially since this is now a stepping stone airline.

Actually very surprised HR would say it's 12 years in the first place, and not sell some pipe dream like they always do. Shows how clueless they are about what's going on.

From my experience the Sim is exactly the same as the profile they send one week before the assessment, if you get the B777 and you fly Airbus then just fly it as if you were flying the bus in Direct Law, smooth control inputs and don’t forget to trim as no auto trimming on Boeing.

The instructors and check airmen on the Sim were super chilled and made sure it was a comfortable atmosphere in there so I really liked that. No traps or hidden tricks, just fly the profile and mind your PM actions at all times as he/she will make mistakes to check your situational awareness.

As for the face to face interview, check this guy’s post as pretty much on spot to what you will get.

Hope this helps, feel free to DM me if you need anything else and good luck!
hi keannu thanks for the info above, i am still waiting for approval joining the whatapps group. If you can send me a DM for detail online interview and how to prep for upcoming 2025 assessment

Fleet assignment

Hello guys, I have applied for defo, waiting for assessment. Im curious regarding the fleet assignment. Lately is everyone assigned on a321n or 747? Heard of anyone being assigned a350 or a330 while joining? Also someone with 4000plus jet experience, will that be a criteria for bus widebody assignment? Need someone to throw some light on this

Experience is irrelevant for fleet assignment. They will put you where they need you.
