I have stayed at the Sheraton and the Steigenberger and was quite happy, perhaps a little bored at most. No I would not take my wife (I have no ex wife) to the hotel, as our holiday standards are different from work standards.

yeah great news. They sacked the 3 and are looking into all crew nightstops in the last 6 months to see if there’s been any transgressions. Best hope you don’t bank with HSBC and paid for that beer outside the hotel on your card…

Singapore aircrew are required to wear an electronic wrist tag during layovers, similar to the ankle bracelet worn by people on bail. It's called the "Crew Safe" system. I wouldn't be surprised if the Hong Kong authorities introduce something similar. If you leave your room for 5 minutes to fill up the ice bucket it will flag up.
A contract with an airline for crew accommodation is a valuable source of income to a hotel, particularly at the moment, so a request for access to CCTV footage of the hallways around the rooms where crew have stayed would likely be granted. European data protection laws would come into this but probably wouldn't help much if matters were decided in Hong Kong.

I really wouldn't be worried about "the last 6 months" in fact I wouldn't be worried about a few weeks ago. We all know CCTV footage is on a loop and erased depending on the size of the recording system, probably every few days. And credit cards? I'm pretty sure a company or anyone is not allowed to just access your finances to sniff around. The best they can do is chat to staff and ask if they know anyone whos broken the law. The 3 that were fired were to set an example and instill fear in the rest of us..

Picture this. You’re in a hotel in a non-locked down country and it’s 3am local time but you’re HUNGRY. Room service - Not available. Food delivery - not available. 24 hour convenience store a 5 minute walk away…

Why doesn’t the company run crew in a closed loop for a two or three months at a time , purely on a voluntary basis of course . In return you get to add the same length of time to your annual vacation

No one is daft enough to agree to that long locked away. Flying once a week and sitting in the Headland isn't an enjoyable experience. Imagine extending that out.
The best way to crew it right now to keep everyone happy is reverse basing. They already have a massive surplus of willing volunteers to live in the USA and operate freely back to HK.

CX has become the Mary Celeste of aviation. Reverse basing will not work because the company has already blotted its copy book with every jurisdiction it operated bases. The crews are all ready for a straight jacket and in need of anti-depressants. Two or three month closed loops would have to assume massive numbers of family breakdowns. A strong case for a claim to the UN for Human Rights abuses. Move the freighter operation to Subic for 6 months is the most sensible option.

Rumours have it that this years 13th month will be announced this coming Friday, and that a special ex gratia payment will also be made to all eligible staff: half basic salary or HKD 8000, whichever is lower.
Pilots however, are excluded, as next years pay increase will take place with the January salary, as follows: a surprise 18% for captains, 28% for FO’s and up to 30% for all SO’s
