Checkout the feature on Page 8 about the mainland needing lots of pilots.

If you believe that I have a used car for sale that you will just love. Just PM me.

And as I didn't join as a SO, I obviously don't have the Cathay DNA. Thank Chr!st.
Coming & living in HK on an SO salary in a shoe box is a real leveler, and a real learning experience, not just about CX, but about HK & the world at large.
That being said, my shoe box was provided by the SO housing allowance, not the current local conditions, and I really do not know how anyone can plan to realistically live a decent life & progress financially in this town without either an expat package, or the benefit of a family support network already in place, such as the previously employed local cadets had/have.

Oh come on asianeagle....don't just slag everything off for the sake off it
The training is entirely paid for by CX and there is no bond...unlike many other asian airlines
colleagues of mine started on bypass pay at about 10 years 5 months with command courses in the offing at about 11 and a half years
...that hardly makes his comments wild inaccurate ramblings does it
Look I know everything here isn't all rosy but lets not try and find fault in absolutely everything just because
As for direct entry F/O's, its hardly surprising...nor would it be wrong.....THIS TIME (last time was a completely different matter) ..I'm not sure what sort of timescale he's working to but by the time it happens, I'm sure the only S/O's it will affect are the cadets with very little experience in the first place...yes I know they will be more senior and that its a problem of the company's own doing, but the economics of airline operations mean that sometimes there are disparities between seniority and experience.... some officers will have more of one than the other, and if whats lacking is the experience to sit in the seat then the company has to get it from somewhere else

I'm sure you all have access to the seniority list.
It's not just about recruitment numbers but about the total gain in Pilot numbers. The seniority list published by the company in October 2010 and 2011 had a net gain of 25!! You can quote numbers, even sounding like impressive numbers, for recruitment but they need to mean something.
A net gain of 25 will not cut the mustard.
With the additional net aircraft CX received (Total received less those leaving the company) in that period it is obvious to anyone that we are in dire straits as far as required crew numbers. Ask the large number of F/Os rostered into overtime but then actually doing more hours per month than actually rostered.

Ok then no official training bond, but take away housing add in HKD1 mil less training costs....guess what, you paying for your training, thats how recruits are seeing it.
Bypass pay, I'm at 10 years 6 months, still waiting..by estimated guesses about another 2 months to go.
At current rates about 70 p/a, and with the clear lack of training capacity and about 200 spots between me and the chaps starting Command course in January, you "do the Maths".
By the way, even though 11'ish years may apply to guys of my vintage, you cannot in all honesty tell me that new joiners can expect similar time to upgrade. These are after all, who the DFO's comments are directed at.
As for the direct entry F/ O thing, given the current shambles with respect to S/O bypass pay etc etc, they want to go ahead and do it again...no wonder there are few takers for new recruit slots.
Keep on dreaming!!

Who is monitoring/auditing/supervising the number of captains over 55 and ensuring the proper number of COS99 FOs are receiving BPP, other than the unreliable internal company representative? There must be dozens and dozens of them, with that number increasing all the time.
Since it will take years to run this through the courts to legally get around the company's convenient interpretation of the privacy ordinance, so we can know that our COS is being honoured (which surely it isn't, since it's worth $), how about we start that process right now?
How about starting with a form in which all AOA members waive any supposed right to privacy about revealing their joining date and birth date along with their seniority number? Nobody really cares about their names anyway.
