I Want A Pay Rise

Nick received 62% rise in a four year period.

NOW IT IS MY TURN!

I have had enough of this crap and am withdrawing my enthusiasm.

And I do not need a non pilot to manage my fatigue.

Nick, amongst many issues, perhaps it is time to rectify the unfairness contained within the annual increment for USAB. How do you justify nearly 60% less each year than all the other bases? Also, perhaps it has slipped your notice that the US dollar is near it's historic lows....meaning in real terms the USAB pilots are amongst the cheapest in the network. Time to address this issue...as you said you would last year.

According to Elliot wave as quoted by some posters deflation is coming.... that will take care of your pay situation nicely. And Nick will then give you a paycut to even things out

please correct me if i wrong...

if you are on USAB you are paid in USD, so what difference does it make if the dollar is weaker or stronger against other currencies?

Im all for pay raises, dont get me wrong....!

ok, i'll correct you. The company earns it's revenues in many different currencies. Over the past several years, the USD has decreased in value relative to the other currencies. Therefore, anyone paid in USD is costing the company less than they used to. The yearly increment for USAB is the lowest in the company (about .5% per year, vs almost 1.5 -2.0% for other bases/hk). Nick said he would rectify this anomaly in the future. Because the USD is fairly low, the correction to the scale would cost them relatively little compared to when the USD was much higher in value. Questions?

Real disposable income is all that matters

If you are paid USD (or AUS$, or NZ$, or EUR, or Pounds, or HKD), pay your taxes in that currency and pay your bills in that currency, exchange rates do not matter.

The annual increment is NOT a pay increase to match inflation. It is to pay you for your increased experience.

I for one would like to see pay indexed to inflation. So in real terms I get paid the same. Apart from pay increases for promotions or increasing experience, every year I have been at CX I have taken a pay cut (in real terms - the only terms that matter - not a paper profit, real loss or any other BS).

The size of the difference between my after tax income and my total cost of living is all that really matters.

You mean there is a difference????

For me the two amounts are usually exactly the same. The only difference is some months I can afford pork till pay day and some months its rice and water by the 21st....

But then I am not on A scale, or bypass, or freighter command or age 65....

My humble opinion is that we should be pursuing pay raises for EVERYONE instead pushing for allowances for the LEPs.

The AOA is loosing focus on the big picture.

Isn't that the same AOA that got you RA65 and the possiblity of 25 years housing?

christn, if you need a break from discussions in PPRuNe, a better way to do so is to close your browser and not come into the forum. I wasn't even discussing about the CEP issue, unlike bobrun who totally hijacked the original post. If you can't take any sort of criticism, online discussion isn't really for you.

Sorry Toe Knee Tiler, I guess I did hijack the post afterall, I shall let u get back to your payrise discussion. Wish you best of luck in getting it and absolutely deserve one after all these years.

What do you think your chances of a payraise are when you cannot even stand behind your union as they fight discrimination against CEPs? If I were TT or NR, I would be quite amused by any demand for more pay given the lackluster support for CEPs.

The problem is not the HKAOA, but the spineless membership it has to work for. That seems very obvious to me. I bet I'm not the only one whom has noticed. Get your sh!t together, join, and stand behind your union!

Is this another race card player?

CXorcist said...fight discrimination against CEPs?

When we are all on different contracts, based/non-based, freighter/mixed, COS99/Cos08, A/B, over 55/under 55, male/female .... how come it is only the CEP that seems to be awarded the exalted moniker of "discrimination"?

Further, when did you come to this revelation that the CEP contract is discriminatory.... surely not during your interview? A man of your high principles would have walked out.... surely...?

Liam,

I did not even know what a LEP/CEP was during my interview. I had no idea about the cadet program. All I knew was that I did not want to be a SO because I like actually flying airplanes, so I ticked the DEFO box only.

With regard to discrimination, I do not think the other groups you mention apply because they are not racially (or country of origin) determined. I despise the use of the "race card", but this seems pretty black and white to me.

Sadly, the company won't even have to make its case because you all are doing it for them. Nice work! Dare I question your membership status?

Cxorcist

You have no idea of my views on this or any other matter, but seem to be profiling me rather quickly to fit your agenda. Some people call that stereotyping and pre-judging.

"With regard to discrimination, I do not think the other groups you mention apply because they are not racially (or country of origin) determined. I despise the use of the "race card", but this seems pretty black and white to me."

Regrettably, your argument fails because for at least a decade CX has taken non-chinese Cadets. In fact there are a large number of non-cantonese speaking cadets. A basic requirement to join the cadet program was that you had a permanent HKID. However, the important distinction that you seem to be missing/ignoring is that by having a permanent HKID you are not compelled to become a cadet.

Obviously, events have overtaken the situation and it would seem all DESO's, irrespective of race, age religion and shoe size will now be CEPs. How does that fit into your "racially determined... black and white (sic)" argument?

For someone who claims to despise the racecard you seem pretty quick to use it!! Perhaps you too need to step out side and have a word with yourself and come back and use the edit button.

Yeah...spot on!!

The same AOA that should have PREVENTED the company from introducing RA65..and as far as the "possibility" of 25 years of housing is concerned, it's exactly that - a possibility

Oh, and wait a minute, it's also the SAME AOA that should be discussing PAYRISES accross the board right now, but instead choose to ignore this and are instead wasting time and money on discrimination issues and other trivial matters

What a bunch of goons..

Ad Posse. How exactly are you (individually, as you obviously don't belong to the AOA) going to pressure and convince the company to negotiate ANYTHING with you personally? It's all well and good to rant against the AOA, but at the end of the day, your 'voice' counts for even less than an AOA voice...simply because the company only deals with the AOA. You may not like it, but that is the only system we have. Be a member and try to move the AOA in a direction you want (by being a committee member), or stay where you are and guarantee you achieve nothing.
