Back when it was run by a western flight department, we did get full pay on leave (as we didn't have the new pay per hr flown system), we had Alan doing rostering, which allowed MAXIMUM flexibility, and was a happy place. This **** you're talking about has only existed for about 3 years, since the inception of the SingaSwine.

Well the rumoured pay rise will come too late and not enough.

Well the rumoured pay rise will come too late and not enough.
HKA has no way of filling all the upcoming A320 pilot requirements, with anything other than the lowest quality pilots in Asia/the world) The crews here are already talking about a revolt, and there is strength in numbers. Just when HKA has a weakness the pilots will hit back.

HKE is haemorrhaging; it is losing pilots left right and centre. I heard they are cancelling flights, changing rosters daily, have no stand by crews and it is real mess. I was at the bar on the weekend and there were two more HKE pilots just waiting for start date and they will resign soon also. The plan of sending all the Boeings to HKE will fail because they cannot attract any pilots on the miserable package. That means no more upgrades ever, low flying hours, low pay and unstable rosters.

There is an email circulating that there will be meetings next week about the new conditions of service. The package is apparently a slap in the face to all pilots who waited patiently these last years for any improvement. You will still be going backwards and inflation has far exceeded proposed increase. The cost of housing increased about 40% in the last few years HKA has no chance at all of achieving the hiring numbers for the A320, and HKE will become a 2 aircraft company.

The rumoured Pay rise (which has been in the pipeline for 18 months) is a propaganda tool used by S.Wu and his management buddies to try and keep people leaving. When people resign or crewing gets desperate he releases a little tiny bit of information in the hope people stay on and “see what happens” For every dollar they save in pilot wages, S.Wu and friends fill their own pockets with performance bonuses. Why else would a company have such a short sighted view about the package while pilots walk out the door in mass numbers?

HKA, HKE. Stay well away. They continue to lead the world at being the poorest managed, poorest paid and most uncertain Aviation companies in the world.

too.girls.one.cup is right.

The only pilots they can find now are the ones real airlines won’t touch, and from the countries with low standards. >>>(low stardards countries)<<<

Will they hire Kingfisher guys? Yes. Will they be good pilots? No. Will it be a waste of training and hiring? Yes. Does the company care? No Will the CAD let it happen? Yes

As opposed to the CX iCadet salary terms & conditions?

"Real" airlines hire "real pilots" who have licenses, logbooks & qualifications, all of which are not needed to join CX anymore.

Delayed Flap App

why do you think that these countries have Low standards?

please dont roll you prejudice here..

FYI..all the Kingfisher Pilots did Type Rating at Toulouse..and passed..

The Pilots are professional.. have you heard of any Incident on Kingfsher A330 to put them down ..It is the management which has put them in this predicament.

or is it because they are a threat to you?

BTW.. Two Type Rated Captains had been selected from Kingfisher for HKA in Oct Last year..

Medical et al.

Told in Feb/Mar 11 that "Aircraft are delayed hence not hiring"
Again in Apr, "Local Pressures preclude us from hiring"

Please do not make loose comments..

Regards

Low Standards?

Delayed Flaps, I would be careful with those redneck comments of yours. I assume that you are one of those yanks who think america invented everything and that philadelphia is the center of the universe. I happen to know two Filipino and Indian pilots at HKA ho used to instruct at Flight Safety teaching your white homies how to fly.

Sorry for the redneck comments. I take it back. It was a generalization, and I know no one likes to read that.

But I fly with these guys from these countries and they are the first to admit the standard in these countries is much lower than Hong Kong, or the Western World. And i have seen it first hand. And I have also seen some fantastic pilots from each of those places also. But as a generalization. I stand by my comment.

Im not saying that individuals from these countries can not come up to standard because they can.

By the way. I am Asian.

This thread is about HKA and the pitfalls of working there. Just read it all then make your decision.

Delayed Flap.... while you seem to retract part of your statement, it is still insulting. At the very least you could and should delete your post.

I have flown with and trained pilots (Capts and FO's) with this same attitude you portray: the ones that believe they are right and all others (FCOM, FCTM, SOP's, etc, etc) are wrong, and FO's jumping in to slander a Capt as they believe they deserve the seat due some ill-gotten self obtained Sky God status, or due the passport they hold, their nationality or previous background is self belief enough to slander other pilots skills.

HKA/E may have it's (many) problems - and it seems it does - but it appears to be on a better track than some others in that same backyard it seems. I personally know of some ex CX TRE's / TRI's heading that way..... I wonder how you would feel if they met you in a sim or line flight/check (at HKA/E or other airline) and took a look at your nationality and pre-judged you? Show some professionalism.

New Pay Scale

Hi guys,

I am invited by HKA to apply for A320 Capt after my application in Jul was 'kindly' rejected. Do any of you have the latest pay scales of HKA? and what is the cost of living in Hong Kong at the present?

"What is the cost of living at the present?".

You're joking, right? As if it's somehow gotten cheaper since the last time someone posted this question.

Cost of Living

Most Expats live in Midlevel’s, Hong Kong. It has the most Western Style restaurants and living.

A typical small 1000 Square foot apartment cost between 35-75000 HKD per month.
http://www.gohome.com.hk/residential/property/Mid-Levels-Central/en/?type=2&district=22&property=0&minsize=1000&maxsize=2000&dat e=0&withphoto=1&channel=0&lang=en
HKA has never offered accommodation allowance.

Google the most expensive cities in the World. And Hong Kong will be in the top 10 every time. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_cities_for_expatriate_employees
It is not about how much they pay you, but how much you will save after high rents and cost of living for Expat people.

Got Children? A decent English speaking International school costs about 10-15000 per month, per child.

Not quite accurate, thats like saying most guys in London live in Park Lane or in New York live in Manhattan. There are more affordable and perfectly habitable up to the standard in other areas for far less. Just because you arent in the Mid Levels in HK doesnt mean ure on the streets of Calcutta...Other areas of HK are still far better than most other standards eg Dubai and Doha. Im retired now but served HK for quite some time...HKA though with problems is one to watch and will be massive. If I was in my younger years this place would be ahead of all the other Desert airlines and upstarts. One to watch out for.

Dogstick. Things have changed in the last 2 years. Rents have gone up 30-40%.

You say not all live in Mid Levels, true. Ok try Tung Chung. The end of the train line, where there is not much to do at all unless your a chinese retiree, you not going to get much change from 20,000 per month for rent.Take that out of the miserable salary, some schooling, high cost of living, and you wont save that much. An F/O only makes about 65,000 before tax.

Think about it carefully before making the move.

Another thing to consider. The air pollution will kill your family or severely reduce the life expectancy if you do 5 or 10 years here. A typical average day is 200-400% above the WHO recommended average for pollution. Is it worth giving your child Asthma or respiratory problems for life? HEI - Air Pollution Tracker

Will HKA be huge? Probably. Will it ever be a decent place to work... NEVER
