Thanks for all your "advices", guys! Delayed Flap - You are quite right about the cost of living, how about the pay? Flying Clog had a different figure for F/O. What is the figure for Capt?

I was paying 65,000 in Tung Chung too,
albeit a flash pad.
1 bedroom and study's are close to 16,000..
If you got a family you're into 20's to meet
basic needs.

Are you a mug too?
65K to live in Tung Chung, when half that would get you a very nice place in town? WHY??
They saw you coming.

You can get a 2 bed apartment right beside the harbour (in the city) fully furnished, pool, gym, sauna, resto, the works - and all for well less than 20K.

People who choose Tung Chung are just lazy b'strds who want to live where they work and roll out of bed into the cockpit. No other excuse as far as I can see.

TC has one of the worst measured air qualities in HK too btw.**coff coff**

Seemple, just google flats for rent in Hong Kong, or go to Square Foot.com, you will see Algol is full of 5hit.
Anyway, the cost of living is academic, try finding out the cost of a new pair of lungs, I'm pretty sure HKA don't pay enough for that. As mentioned above, on a fantastic day the pollution is around the WHO limit, on an average day it's 4-6 times the limit, on a bad day it's 10-20 times the limit, the number of bad days in 2010 was greater than 100. It is getting worse every year, China is officially the worst polluter in the world, 5 times that of the US and more than double India with no end in sight, they are doing absolutely nothing about it. In fact, one of the so called " intellectuals " in China is saying global warming is bogus and a clever trick by the Yanks to sell green energy stuff , and that was one of the smart ones
If your physical health is not that important to you, then go and work for HKA they will screw your mental health too.

What a load of unfounded hysterical nonsense.
Grow up.

If you buy into the myth of the local market you are a mug and you'll be screwed over.
The whole housing allowance thing in KA and CX is out of control and guys don't give a tuppeny damn to do the leg work when 'the company is paying for it'.
On the contrary, I detect an element of willy waving to the whole thing - 'My flat costs 65K per month' 'Oh really, mine is 75K'.
You get the picture. Money is no object when it isn't your own.

Bollocks..if you want to rent something
Your family would consider living in you're paying over
50. It's that simple.

If you are happy with the wife and kids in
a 600sqft shoebox, then you can pay 20.

I am not living halfway around the world
to have a WORSE situation than at home.

PS.. Any financial guys I know have housing
DOUBLE ours... We are not by any means anything
but middle class in HK

The 'Financial guys'? Aren't they the cause of ALL our problems? WORLDWIDE?
They live high on the hog - and the rest of us pick up the tab in high bank charges and fees, high interest rates, and high taxes to bail out their asses when their ponzi schemes come crashing down.

The HKG property market is just another huge ponzi scheme, constructed by an unholy cabal of local developers (who have the legislature in their back pockets, controlling land releases) and the banks and finance houses who throw money on the fire, and watch as the little people burn themselves down to the ground in their delusional effort to keep up with the Joneses.

While the merry go round keeps turning the banksters make fortunes - which easily prop up the inflated rental rates and mortgages they'll happily pay on their (only slightly larger) shoeboxes.

And you want to get on THAT merry go round?
Wanna sell your soul to the banksters and chinese developers?

Go ahead.
I'm staying off it.
It can't last much longer. The cracks are already appearing.

PS If you were all that worried about your families well-being you wouldn't even BE in Hong Kong.

Algol, you may have only been here a few minutes. You may never have flown with anyone who's lived here for 36 months. But I'm awfully impressed with your extensive personal experience in Hong Kong real estate deals.

If I wink, nudge, and tell the vendor I know about the secret unholy cabal you've uncovered, will they give me a discount on my villa? How does it REALLY work? Can I be a streetwise BOSS player too?

Flip side of your argument - maybe you lack the experience of other real estate markets to understand whats really happening in HK.

In fact, I'm certain thats the case.

The only way is up, eh?
Enjoy the ride.

Pollution kills trash

OMG, pollution, pollution, pollution. Hey, get out of HKG and China if you pale faces want to live, or else the air is gonna kill you all. Be warned!!! Tell you something, get out of China and HKG PRONTO......the foul air gonna kill you quick.
No, I am not trying to scare you; I am teaching you a great strategy, haul yourselves out of Red China and her territories quick. Let the foul air kill all the Chinese and then you can come back to claim everything for yourselves. In the meantime when you are gone, you don't have to waste your time bellyaching and wasting bandwidth with all the complaints. Cool, ain't it.

Because the demise did not happen, so some miscreants want to " artificially " bring that about with air pollution scare! D'uh!
