Unhappy Requirements for ground school/sim instrutor

Dear All,

I need some basic info about instructing. I have a medical condition that might make me lose my medical in the near future. I would like to know if a sim instructor still needs a valid medical to work and what qualifications would be required (not talking about TRE) to do instruction only. I have about 12000 hrs total with a lot of experience on Airbus types. Alternatively, what would be required as qualifications to be a ground school teacher?

Thanks for any help.

Rgds,

Danny

Many airlines and training organizations actually prefer lapsed medicals for Sim instructors, since they are arguably unlikely to demand a flying position or look longingly out the window on nice flying days.

A call to CAE, Bombardier, or FlightSafety may ease some of your concerns.

Instructor rating

Do you hold or have you ever held an FI or IRI rating? If so there should be problem in getting STI or SFI. You certainly won't need a medical for that. If you have never held any instructor rating get this before they take your medical away if possible.

I think you would be in demand for FNPTII CPL/IR training!

Before regulations, certification, and licensing is discussed, perhaps the original poster should identify the country or jurisdiction under which he wishes to instruct.

Dear All,

Thank-you for your replies. I apologise I took some time to log on again.

As background, I have an ICAO licence that I have recently converted to a UK JAA ATPL with a restriction to fly UK registered aircrafts only. I will get the restriction removed soon (had to sit for all 14 exams again), so I will have a full JAA licence.

I had a look at the H section of LASORS previously, but I must have looked too quick and was a bit confused. I was under the impression that I required a TRI rating to become an SFI. Only the TRI course is required!

Just saw today that Airbus is recruiting SFIs for the next 12 months. I might have a go at this depending on how my next medical goes.

Thanks again everybody,

Danny.
