Any jobs out there?
Are there any good contracts about at the moment?
I have looked at Flight's web site & see AMR offering £15 per hour for LAEs in Singapore. Last time I was there it was not the cheapest place to live & most people were earning more than that in 1990.
I am happy to relocate anywhere but not at my expesnse just to line the pockets of the airline or agency.

LBMF, I have been offered a job in Singapore and have seriously looked into moving out there.
It's not as expensive as everyone makes out. You can rent a 2-3 bed flat from about £700 up which compares to the S.E. England area. Tax is a flat 15%. Cars however are very expensive to own out there.
If you're single most of the contractors share a flat between them and split the costs making it even cheaper.
The thing that put me off was the 220hrs per month (min) you are expected to work.

Thanks for the reply. It is sad that agencies are offering a rate that is the same as they were paying 12 years ago. We also got housing, per diems, car allowance & no local tax. The agencies were taking their cut then & they will be doing the same now. The only looser is the LAE.
You mention peole sharing. It is sad that LAEs shoud have to share? You are going to help these companies out due to their shortage of qualified staff. You should not have to lower your standards & live any differently than you would at home.
If more people refused these contracts theyrate would have to go up.

£15 per hour is an insult to you and your hard earned licence!
To coin a phrase 'I wouldn't get out of bed for that.'
I know that times are hard, but they are not that bad. If they provided a per deum and digs it would still be low but at least worth considering.
Send your c.v. to the agencies in the back of flight with a letter explaining your requirements and You may be surprised at how soon you are contacted. I still get calls from agencies 4 years after leaving contracting for a permy job.

Nay Good Jobs out there ?
I have worked for AMR on a number of contracts, and after many years contracting I can say that I found them to be one of the better contract firms. Not only was my hotel paid for, but we were given a hire car per 3 people. Amr also provided cash in hand (sub) on arrival, overalls ,sweatshirts and a competant link man (in Hamburg at least).
The down side (for me) were number of cowboy scum that I encountered. The factory hands who claim to be 'engineers'. The sad the mad, the useless, drug addicts, losers, fantisists. That was my best paid contract, working in Denmark and there were only 6 of us.
A certain well known Irish contract agency, I just will not work for. I remember a couple of the top reps, when they were working on shovels (lead shot for redux bonding process) at Fokkers Amsterdam many years ago.
As the industry in general is poorly paid, (a plumber will be paid to travel and have digs paid) I now very seldom work in the UK at all. The anti unionists ( they can be found in crew rooms reading the 'Star' or 'Sun') chuntering on about, "I will negotiate my own pay and conditions", I believe have ruined the trade.

any jobs out there
Working with AMR in Denmark as an unlicenced aircraft fitter, I recieved £18 per hr + car (share) + hotel paid + flight home every 2 weeks.
If a plane could not be dragged out of service. We were offered a trip home and 60 hrs paid. ( Happened twice to me)

Like i said in my earlier post i am looking for Licenced Engineers for Aircraft Inspection. must hold JAR 66 B1 and/or B2, And be licenced in boeing 747-300 and/or 747-400. With licences in engines CF6-50 / CF6-80. JOB2: licenced engineers with JAR 66 B1 and/or B2, and licenced in Boeing 767 and/or MD11, with engines CF6-80. You MUST have these to apply. This Singapore deal has been going on for ages, SIA just need more and more folks. The deal I have been offered was S$45 an hour plus housing allowance and ticket perks with SIA. You get cash for housing, so if you want to share, you can and pocket the difference, but the allowance will comfortably cover the cost of a very nice 3 bed furnished condo.
15% tax a hassle, but better than paying 45%!!
Singapore great place to live either married or single! You do not need a car with the public transport system and it is a very safe and cosmopolitan place to live.
Big connies coming up with EVA and CAL in Taiwan at the moment, which could be good payers.
