Line and Base maintenance
Hi
Is there anyone out there who could give me any help and advice as to how to get in to base or line maintenance?
I am currently 23 fresh out of university after completing my BEng Aeronautical Engineering degree. I appreciate there are a lot of views out there about university grads going into these area and fully aware it will be difficult and hard work, but I've done a lot of research and this is what I want to do! I know apprenticeship schemes are long passed for me so my questions are:
1) How much would it cost for me to self-fund my licence?
2) Where could I go to get the necessary training?
3) Would airline/engineering companies take me on to complete the practical experience I would need?

Contact the CAA at http://www.caa.co.uk/ you may exemptions on the modules for your basic Licence due to your degree. As for Licence exams contact Air service training with regards to exams and practical work. Companies taking you on ? maybe if you offered to work for nothing say at weekends whilst you did your modules to gain experience ?

You will need experience in whatever aircraft maintenance field you choose before being awarded a 'License'. The easy way is to get a break in aircraft maintenance contracting but again you need some experience!! Its always difficult to start but you seem to have a good idea of where you want to go. As for the costs to gaining a JAR License they are considerable and you must also gain the relevant time in the area of work you wish to enter into. So contracting could be one path to take.
