For those out there that are members of the ALAE, the AGM is being held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, West Drayton, (near eathrow, for all you lazy Southerners) on Saturday 6th April kick off at 13:00. . .. .So now’s your chance if you’ve got something to say!!. .. .And before A4 heli whatever says anything I have posted this on airmech as well and not copied it word for word from there, I've posted it word for word on both. . . . . [ 17 March 2002, 19:27: Message edited by: spannersatcx ]

So screwdriver, for fear of repeating what's already debated a dozen times, what highly succesful union are you a member of?. .. .Have they secured your job, your friends jobs, etc.. .. .NO will be the answer.. .. .SUPPORT THE ALAE !!. .. .Take the vote.... .. .http://www.airmech.co.uk/forum/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=106&DaysPrune=1000

What have the ALAE actually achieved over the last 10 years?. .. .Have they stopped JAR 66 forced upon us?. .. .Have they done anything to increase the pay or recognition of LAEs?. .. .Done anything to stop the deskilling of the job by allowing BA & others by use of RMA etc to save having to employ LAEs & so keep wages down?. .. .What of the aims & objectives of the ALAE have been achieved? . .. .All colleagues and I see is a magazine with lots of hot air, letters to the CAA (which have achieved nothing). We finally get the minutes of the 2001 AGM in the issue before the 2002 AGM. AGM - Lots of elections of officers to attend lots of committees & meeting but to what end? A page in the magazine on how the latest meeting went. . .. .What does the ALAE actually do for the LAE? . .. .I have been asked this by people I have tried to get to join but unfortunately I cannot answer as I do not know. . .. .Is there anyone who can help explain what the advantages of joining the ALAE are?

why not take a read of the following.... .. .http://www.airmech.co.uk/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=106. .. .It is a recent review on all representative bodies. The ALAE even had a say, and to be honest they did well. . .. .The one thing we need is to be united, and not individuals, always looking out for number one.. .. .Also, you will never be allowed to stand in the way of so-called progress. If a unified system such as JAR66 is deemed necesary then it will happen, and that is decided at a far higher level than the ALAE or even CAA.. .. .http://www.airmech.co.uk/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=forum;f=106

A4H . .The above link did not answer the question, it was yet another poor attempt to get people to AirMech.

LBMF, I'll apologize in advance if I've misread the tone of you're previous posts but why don't you stop your whining and just read the link on Airmech again. The post by Bill McDonald dated 25 Jan, answers most of you're questions with respect to the ALAE , its achievements and the benefits of joining.. .BA currently do not recognise the ALAE so the ALAE can hardly be blamed for the creation of the RMA/BMA grade. In fact I don't blame the union for getting the unlicensed guys a pay rise just wished they had done the same for us.. .Personally, I joined the ALAE just over a year ago and although I am also currently in the AMICUS ( formally AEEU & MSF ) it is only because some representation is better than none at all. At BA there is a growing feeling of discontent & disillusion with the present union ( just ask the guys who will be losing their jobs at Manchester what they think). They have done very little for the LAEs in recent years as we are in the minority although A4-Heli is right about being united. A united union is a strong union and we would all be in a much better position if both licensed & unlicensed guys stuck together and joined an organisation which is solely for engineers unlike the AMICUS. . .If you want to make a difference and help redress the current situation we find ourselves in then why not join. For the equivalent of £1 a week you even get your own copy of the ALAE magazine rather than borrowing one for free. . .And another thing why are you so anti Airmech? I read both PPRuNe and Airmech and can't see a problem with having more than one site with which to air ones views & enter into discussion with other like minded professionals. If you feel that bad about Airmech and that you must remain loyal to PPRuNe then fine, don't go there.. .. .If you want to join then use this link for the application forms...... .http://www.lae.mcmail.com/pages/FrameSet1.htm. . . .. . All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, a fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us? . . . . [ 22 March 2002, 11:48: Message edited by: Ali Crom ]

If your not happy with what is going on, we should have all got off our computers, where we all regularly complain amongst ourselves and do very little else. Go to the AGM, voice your opinion/displeasure or get elected onto the committees and change what you don’t like! I only wish I were able to come to the U.K. and join in with you.

Ali Crom. .. .Thanks for details of where the info was. The previous link just went to the Union page. Great if you have lots of time to open each up. . .I am not anti any web site but I don't like the cheap attempts of Airmech to get a link into almost every forum. . .. .Both forums can exist & should exist but these cheap attempts put more people off.. .. .I agree we need to stand united but what has the ALAE done? I do not blame them or any union for RMA but they did nothing to stop it. RMA undermines out licence & the need for LAES so maybe they should have done something to stop it. . .. .It's OK to say someone else got money but at the same time soeone was issued RMA it stopped the need of a LAE.

LBMF. .. .I did promise that I would never post here again, but its accusations like yours that get on my nerves.. .. .Get your facts straight, A4s posts are NOT cheap attempts by AirMech to get readers. We have plenty of new readers every day. More would be nice but we do not condone A4 doing it for us, or failing to do it for us.. .. .A4-heliworker has nothing to do with AirMech.co.uk. I don't like his tone or his attitude. I have checked our records and there is no member by that name. . .. .What else can I say ? . .. .www.AirMech.co.uk - The Aircraft Engineers Website

I have been in civil aviation since 1972 and before that the RAF. I have heard the same things going back to those days about the ALAE. Nothing it seems has changed. I joined in the early days of the ALAE when the old certificate of maintenance was phased out. The same arguements went on, that I see now, about JARs. . .I retired from the business in 1997 and have pursued other interests, and all I can say is I am glad I did.. . . . [ 23 March 2002, 22:22: Message edited by: rover2701 ]
