Just in case you haven't heard.. .. .Ken Freebody, a very well liked and respected engineer from BA Manchester passed away last Monday.. .Ken was a gentleman of the highest order and had only recently been forced to retire. . .Ironically, (and sadly), an article appeared in the Telegraph recently in which Ken and his wife were pictured and discussed the provisions they had made for their retirement!. .. .RIP Ken, and thanks for the "gen".. .. .Mr Ken Freebody's funeral details are as follows;Church service to be held at St.Anns (R.C)church Cheadle Hulme on Wednesday 20th March at 13:00.-Follow B5065 Hulme Hall Rd to where it meets Church Rd.The last turning on the right is Vicarage Ave.Turn here and the church is 200yds on the left.(A-Z Manchester P.142 5D) Service to be held at Stockport Crematorium at 1400.-Follow the A6 through toward Stockport, the crematorium is opposite St.Georges church, and next to Stockport grammar school.(St.Georges church is massive you'll spot it!).Hope to see a good turnout.

A-4Heliworker. How can you 'steal' an obituary. If you represent 'airmech' then how sad indeed that you should choose such a posting to make your petty point.

Sadly not many engineers seem to live long after retiring. I heard that for pension calculations the RAF uses 55 as an average age. I think it is time that a detailed study into all the unhealthy aspects of the engineers life should be conducted. Maybe we could get a university interested.. .Not much point putting money into a pension either. It would cost a fraction to get a couple of good insurance policies for the wife and kids.. .. .My condolences to Ken's familly and friends.

Cool

Didn't know him, but condolences to his family.. .A4 get a life.. .. .Rob_L, it does seem that once retired we don't seem to last that long, there must be some statistics somewhere that should show this.

Hi Spanner. .. .I doubt it, after all who gives a **** about the oily rags. Now if you flew all day in a white shirt you'd have studies up the ying yang telling you that climbing up the airstairs was bad for your health.

Unhappy

I didn't know Ken but I knew plenty of other stalwarts who never got the decent retirement they earned. My condolences to his family and friends.. .. .There is a research group working in 'Quality of Working Life' (QWL) down at Birbeck College, University of London and The Tavistock Institute are also interested. The long term effects of working conditions, including shift work, are part of the study. Up until now the effects of working conditions on health have focussed on such obviously hazardous industries as coal mining, chemicals and steel production. With Health and Safety at Work Legislation more or less covered as far as the obvious hazards are concerned, more attention is finally being paid to Human Factors and disturbed diurnal patterns. Sadly, it will be too late to benefit grey headed old geezers like me, though. . .. .**********************************. .Through difficulties to the cinema

Question

Rob_L,. .. .Are you interested in participating and/or have insight to offer or are you merely interested in outcomes and published data?. .. .**********************************. .Through difficulties to the cinema

I am interested in published data foremost.. .I doubt that I would have anything to offer other than annecdotal information and a growing list of the lost.

A4-heliw@nker. .. .Of course it was "stolen" from airmech. It's a bit pointless copying it out from the crew room blurb all over again isn't it?. .. .Everyone else thankyou for the respectful comments.. .. .A4, DO NOT REVEAL YOURSELF TO ANYONE AT MAN OVER THE COMING WEEKS!!!!! T0SSER!

Rob_L,. .. .I'll see what I can get for you. Academics are a bit wary of letting people see their data until they've got it safely published in a journal.. .. .**********************************. .Through difficulties to the cinema
