Question A dispute-related factual question for 89ers or returnees/others.

A dispute-related factual question for 89ers or returnees/others.. .. .What is the significance to 89ers of a pre-1993 hire date for (now ex) Ansett drivers?. .. .I am familiar with the mid 1990 AFAP ‘return to work’ date, with respect to ‘acceptability’ to dispute pilots, and I am aware that some would regard any post-89 hire date as unacceptable, but I seem to have missed 1993.. .. .Hearsay suggests that at least two organizations with large numbers of dispute pilots in their employ have 1993 as a cut-off date for hiring purposes for ex Ansett drivers, and the (very) occasional post on this forum has also referred to this date. My current 89er work colleagues are not sure why either, although some possibilities have been discussed.. .. .Anyone know about this one? (Without invective if possible). .. .Snooze. .(Sideliner in ’89)

I am an 89'r.. .. .As far as I understand it, once the AFAP declared defeat and told us all to apply for our old jobs, then that is the point when "Labels" could stop being applied to people who took jobs with Ansett.. .. .That was 1990.. .. .At the time, several people got back into Ansett within days. These returns were considered "unseemly" or "questionable" because most of us thought there would have to be process underway before the deadline in order to be so quick off the mark.. .. .However, 1993 is a mystery to me. Anyone who joined Ansett in mid-to-late 1990, 1991, 1992 or 1993 is absolutely OK. Any of them would be welcome to join my airline in Hong Kong.

Cool

As one of the "few" that was re-employed in '91 by Ansett I must admit to being curious to the significance of '93 (I have heard a rumor that '93 was the first year that a '89 er's kid was employed by Ansett). .. .I went through the dispute and did the right thing. After it was all over we heard that about 22% scabbed. This means that any airline employing Pilot's after '93 can expect that one in five would scab given the chance. Why these people are better than the ones that "did the right thing" is beyond me!. .. .Any comments??

None known or ever heard of by me. As far as I know the date to maintain ones honour in regard to this matter was about March 20 something 1990. I know of no-one who would bare a grudge against anyone employed after that date. The laws are quite well defined on the matter of discrimination. Although I would quietly remind some like AN pilot GK. who stated on the tv news that he wouldn't be able to get a job with VB because "I am a dispute pilot". How do you know Gl*n, without giving it a try? Failing that 737 F/O course in '89 will probably have been forgotten by now, but then again maybe not.. . . . [ 06 March 2002, 10:59: Message edited by: Back Seat Driver ]

We are still waiting for some one to come up with the significance of '93. I have heard that Emirates use this date. Does anyone know of any ex Ansett pilots with start dates before '93 that fly for Emirates??. .. .

Gaylord F - there IS NO significance about 1993. The cut off date was the 22nd March 1990 when the AFAP gave the OK to re-apply for member's jobs. Where the confusion possibly arises, is that the Scab List has been continually updated and a few heroes that slipped through the original "net" were rightfully added to the list. I am told that some inclusions (and exclusions) were made as late as '95. . .. .What's that old saying - you can run, but you cannot hide.

Sick and tired of all this repetition. Kindly find something to say which has not already been said. Padlock
