Elevator and Gaunty,
I watched it and found it amusing but have to agree that there is a serious risk that the general public could well take it seriously when you consider the unfortunately low level of intelligence evident these days especially in aviation matters. (I know this will get me in trouble; so be it.)
The thing is that you need to be an aviator to appreciate that it is a send up, otherwise it is real, isn't it?
Transition Layer,
Actors!? Of course pilots are actors! I clearly recall that some wag had added to the top of the DC3 Initial Checklist scroll; about two yards long by the way so that it was binding so much that some force was needed to turn the knob.
GOOD MORNING ACTORS

I can't resist this, but I have actually met both the Captain and FO AND their alter egos (and I'm not talking about the actors) as I'm sure you have, in my travels, why otherwise would we have a need for CRM training.

Transition Layer,
Thanks for clearing that up. Must admit though, they had me convinced they were the real McCOy.
Elevator,
Whilst I accept your point of view, not sure I fully understand it. I think we are labelling Mr and Mrs average air passenger as pretty dim if they accepted the show on face value. But then when I first watched an episode of Frontline I was convinced it was a ridgididge doco.

I loved the comment to the F/A :
"So do you think you are everything to every man ?" ..and the reply "I think that's just every man's fantasy"
Equally impressive was the Captains resistance to laughter while every comment in the cockpit was met with "Check" or "Confirmed"
My type of humour definately...

"People Like Us" is a spoof. Perhaps the humour is too subtle for some.
I wonder if there was a backlash from vicars after Roy's "people like us" about them (loved the vicar playing "stairway to heaven" on the church organ !)
Or bank managers after last week's hilarious send up of management appraisal systems, "It's all a load of b****** really..." which was just as lifelike to those of us who have endured it as the struggle to put on the five point harness in a jumpseat without ending up cutting off the blood supply to 75% of the body..
Maybe some poeple were born without a sense of humour...sad.
Anyway I loved the way the ugly Hostie translated her own surname "Churchfield" into French "Eglisechamp" and then talked about sensitively descending onto Paris, so "returnez de votre assiette tout de suite!"

When I was a boy I was sure I knew everything!
As I got a bit older I became less sure.
Approaching middle age I was sure I was less sure
Well past middle age I knew I was less sure
With dotage in sight, however, I am sure that it is not even remotely possible to overestimate the dumbosity of the "General Public" at large.
Just because they are smiling and nodding their heads doesn't mean they are even close to understanding what it is you are saying.
I find an enigmatic smile with a petit Gallic shrug in response to a question works way better.

Elevator,
I would be interested to hear your thoughts on the old movie "Flying High". It too was a send up of Pilots, and it too was supposed to be a comedy.
Every profession has thier time on stage in front of a laughing audience. It was our turn on Monday night so Sit back, relax, and for God's sake take it on the chin.
