Post What's happening at NJS?

Any truth to the following, or just rumours? 1 - NJS to operate a 737 out of Brisbane. 2 - big reduction of 146 ops ex Perth.

To answer " whats happening at NJS " I don't think anyone knows, including NJS !

I hear an approx. 20% decrease in flying for PH in Feb. but may be only temporary, also take into account that most of them have been flat out since Sept.

73 out of BN, see 24s post

I think the answer is the same answer to the question 'What is happening in Aviation?', and that answer is "Who knows?".

Question

Dont want to stir up a s**t fight here, but have heard from a very reliable source that as from 5:00pm today QF has told NJS that the contract is terminated. Given the 35 day clause that NJS contract has been under that takes the schedule through to the end of Feb. early March. As I understand the NJS crews at this time dont have a schedule beyond this time. As said, not trying to stir up a s**t fight just after some informed info.

I think you may ind that it wasn't the contract that was terminated as such but a change in ownership

Question

Interesting Balinda. I know Southern and Eastern are amalgamating and the 146's are getting the axe so am just curious as to what will happen to the NJS 146,s. The question of a replacement aircraft is still to be answered?

DJP - At this stage no-one is amalgamating. There is a regional business review on at the moment however which will result in some rationalisation.

It is envisaged that the engineering side will be streamlined substantially but the flight ops is another story. There are many variables yet to be determined and the final plan will be subject to whatever the accountants see as the best option, be that 3 separate companies or one.

The other area is whether a combined regional AOC is desireable or retain the 3 HCAOC's. Especially as Southern's already has jets on it.

So for all the statemants of so & so are amalgamating and the jets are going - they are fine on here as this is a rumour network. Unfortunately facts are than nothing has been decided and facts will only be known when it happens.

Good on you Pimp Daddy

146s are here to stay at least for a while judging by the amount of training that Qantas has committed to.

Maybe they'll go, maybe they'll stay. Only time will tell.

I suspect there's a fair bit of jealousy among some of the other Qantas regional airline pilots because Southern has jet - vis a vis the constant comments "I know they're getting rid of the 146s" etc etc etc

You know SFA

Welcome Pimp Daddy to the professional pilots RUMOUR bulletin board, there is no room for facts here....Rumour has it that once Eastern has all of Southerns ports on its AOC then there will be no need for a Southern Dash 8 operation..just a base in melb, as for the 146 operation who knows, I think it is lucky to still be in existence, it was not qantas's first choice to move Airlink out of Canberra...

Thought twice about posting this as it's fact not rumour, but here goes....

Fact: There is a review of the Qantas regional ops to establish where streamlining and rationalisation can save dollars. No mention of single AOC's etc.

Fact: The move of NJS to WA and Southern from Launceston to Canberra occured because Qantas needed to redeploy 717's from the Coolangatta route and extra 146 capacity was required in WA with the demise of Ansett.

Fact: Qantas has just signed a 12 month contract with the Ansett Administrators for use of the 146 simulator.

Sorry about the facts, maybe we can start PPFaNe, the fact network, how about it PPRuNe Towers??

Now returning to my cave...

DJP, I think your very reliable source just got downgraded to very unreliable, not a QF regional person by chance ?

Not quite sure how to take your post Miss Behaviour, but mine was designed to get things moving and it worked.. .BTW, I'm WITH stupid, get it.

The rumour "flying" at present is that someone VERY high up has gone to the UK for negotiations with the owners over the sale of Airlink. According to the rumour, QF have approached NJS recently with a price, however "the someone" has said it's not enough, yet the UK owners want it sold as they are not interested in anything but Surveillance and want to sell at any price. Wouldn't it be nice.......
