I think the best thing to do is to a) get some work non flying to give you bucks to stay current, keep building time up on something useful with the dollars you earn from your non flying job, ie 210 time or Baron time, keep your IFR rating current and keep and keep pestering the operators you want work for.People tend to give in if you ring up every few weeks,it may take 6months but eventually you will get a start.dont be a nussence but be polite and persistant.speak to the operator and ask him what his minimum legal ops manual requirments are and more importantly what are the mimimum hours at which he will start a new pilot.a lot of operators want 500hrs min. but some may give you a start with less.speak to the Boss.stay keen, get a non flying job, think of the bigger picture, and you will eventually be flying.Good Luck!
Oh Boy,
you sound depressed Buddy! That is pretty normal when long term plans fall to s#it. Many others have been there too. It will get better when you get up and find that other path to follow. In the same way that you got into flying, just reflect upon what you are passionate about, and do something along those lines. Anything! Spruce up, eat better and do some exercise - it all helps. You will get through the doldrums....push on.
You will always be a flyer at heart, it will always be possible for you. But can make better bucks elsewhere for a while. It does not matter what you do, as long as you do something.

It's a tough caper ohboy we all know that going in, I did what you are considering doing now I quit aviation I had 220tt I had no money no prospects got sick of being broke and thought ****** it I'll go and do something else. Three years later I'm in the pub and a bloke walks up to me and offers me a job flying skydivers - I'm still doing it 18 months later and not going to quit anytime soon coz I'm having to much fun. Flying jobs like all good things come to those who wait. Quit if you want or just take a break and get cashed up ready for the next adventure.

Ohboy
I started out about 12 years ago and after the first company went broke I made my way up north. There were many times I thought I had a bad deal. It was worse than all my peers. I was getting old too! I kept choosing one path only to find another door closed with seniority in the subsiduaries. Too old for Cx, etc. etc.
BUT
Eventually the persistance paid off, I kept going even when my friends thought I was nuts and now I'm lucky enough to be in the LHS of a 737. It only takes one moment to be in the right place at the right time and only your persistence will see you there.
What have you got to lose?
Good luck and season greetings!

Heard a rumour that Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF) were looking for pilots for light twins and singles doing charity work around the globe in some pretty remote places. Apparently they put a letter in one of the Hong Kong airline crew notice books. Maybe you could hunt them down and see what's going on. Sorry, don't have a contact number.

I really hope that you weren't one of the many sucked in by the "Come learn with us and you WILL have an airline job on completion".Have you been told"Who the hell wants someone with only 400hrs,you know **** from clay"and all the others.Trust me mate it doesn't get any easier and will no doubt get a damn lot harder, but if you use the putdowns and knockbacks as an incentive to show the knockers WHY they want you,or should have taken you on when they had the chance.I used these ****ty remarks(and many more-theres a new post-how have you been told to f&ck off?)throughout my journey through this very small minded industry and every time I was sitting in an A/C,no matter for what reason, that this is why I am going to keep at this and prove to those schmucks that I am worthy. Its all about having yor ass in an A/C.Dont take NO for an answer!
