Unhappy Air NZ now refusing to accept Ansett tickets

I am one of the many current abused, stressed, frustrated and angry Qantas reservations team members who have had to deal with the with the goings on of this horrible Ansett situation.( 22,000 calls on hold friday morning to be exact )

Today it was announced that Air New Zealand are now NOT accepting Ansett Tickets for travel on ANZ flights, that is, any ticket starting with a 090 number issued on ansett print. First of all ANZ ruin a beautiful airline and now, have taken money for tickets on air new zealand flights but wont honour them simply because they are issued on ansett ticket paper......what a disgrace.

PRESS RELEASE
****************
"CAN I USE MY ANSETT AUSTRALIA (090) TICKET ON AN AIR NEW ZEALAND FLIGHT?

For customers who have commenced their travel as at midnight (New Zealand local time), 13 September 2001.

If you have commenced your travel on Air New Zealand (NZ) (including New Zealand domestic services) or Ansett Australia (AN) international flights your ticket will be accepted on the Air New Zealand (NZ) operated network.

For assistance with rebooking your flight please contact your local Air New Zealand Reservations office.

Air New Zealand is not able to meet passenger expenses for accommodation, meals, ground transportation or any air travel to/from the Air New Zealand international point of departure or arrival

For customers who were due to commence their travel after midnight (New Zealand local time), 13 September 2001.

Cabinboy - on behalf of AN Res I say thank you for you comment on AN being a 'beautiful airline'. I was one of the few at AN Res. to hit the phones on Friday morning (I felt I had to do my bit to help and you can imagine what I had to deal with) and I feel sorry for the chaos that was dumped on you.

On the subject of NZ not taking AN tickets, QF did the same thing starting Thursday afternoon. Another thing about NZ not taking AN tickets was the staff members stranded in New Zealand!!! One guy from Res here fronted up to check-in on Friday morning (on positive space) only to be told - bad luck mate this is no good, and they tore his ticket up So much for working for the so-called same company. He had to pay his own way back

What about some of the AN international crews stuck in Kansai and HK - the only carrier with seats to get them home was Air NZ. However, they refused to carry any AN staff. Thanks to the wonderful people at JAL and QF who moved heaven and earth to get them home. Not all people in aviation are bad (just a small minority).

Talking to an AN Int'l Flight Attendant recently as well as a friend of mine in CX who had the melancholy duty of informing the AN 747 crew that their airline had ceased trading.
This great man (unmentioned) offered to ring around other CX crews to see if they could be billeted out for the night or until a flight could be found.

Those involved know who they were and this is what truly makes for the term professionals.

As for Air NZ turning away AN crews stranded (and in particular those with confirmed space tickets) I believe AN is better off without them.

Once liquidation is announced the true bidders will materialise and commence fighting over whats left of AN's hide.

We truly live in interesting times.........
