If the check ride is done with a TC approved examiner and the appropriate papers are filed and fees are paid, then it will go on your Canadian license.

Just out of curiosity, how much do you have to pay for the training?

Glad to hear you aren't paying for it. I am willing to bet it will be significantly north of 15k for the training. Make sure you check with the sim provider that they are using a TC approved check pilot or that one will be coming from canada for the check ride. Otherwise, if you only hold a Canadian license at the moment, and they give you and FAA examiner it will not be validated by TC and the IFR will not be renewed.

You can get a check ride at a foreign training authority endorsed on your Canadian license, It's in CAR's, I'm trying to recall the exact wording but it goes along the lines of "If the check ride and training are done according to the isuing states regulations are are acceptable to that state with the final exam being done by an examiner of that state (in this case the FAA) then transport Canada recognizes such a check ride and training to be sufficient for endorsement of a type rating"

There are a few forms that would need to be filled out by the examiner and also a letter by the States Aviation authority that the training was done according to their requirements and satisfaction.

For example Flight Safety is a recognized training provider in Canada, and it is recognized by the FAA, you would need records of your flight test and a letter from the FAA stating that your check ride was done according to their regulations.

I did ground school and training with the FAA and it was recognized by Canada, though I did my check ride with a Canadian examiner in order to expedite the endorsement process since I already had a Canadian license and after six months am still waiting to get the damn FAA license

One thing to bear in mind is that the TCAA does not endorse P2 ratings from a foreign license, only P1 ratings are transferable. If your check ride is being done with a P2 restriction you might end up with some complications. Just contact Transport Canada, they are usually very helpful, also brush up on the section of the CAR's that are relevant in order to expedite your request as sometimes it's the top man that makes the final decision in ambiguous situations.

You must provide a record of the training and flight test completed. That flight test must have validated all of the required items that must be completed for a type rating as spelled out in the PPC and Flight Test Guide. The list of required items is spelled out here:

Pilot Proficiency Check and Aircraft Type Rating Flight Test Guide (Aeroplane) TP 14727 - Transport Canada

Wow! Maybe you need to rethink your question and ask it again.

It sounds to me like you don't have an FAA certificate, or do you?

You didn't say which "foreign" state is going to TYPE you and if you'd be training for this foreign carrier under what FAR. They may train you under an "approved" course other than FAA if you don't hold an FAA certificate.
Your question can't be accurately answered until you provide the necessary details.

Will you get a foreign licence issued through your employer based on your Canadian licence?
If your foreign licence is other than an FAA licence with the type rating on it, then you got a problem.
Presently, the paperwork agreement is between TC and the FAA for adding the type to your Canadian licence and vice versa.

Your story is a little suspicious. If, as you say, you did a check ride for a type rating and submitted the paperwork to OKC but six months later you're still waiting, there is every reason for you to contact them. It usually takes 90 days or less.
Give it a shot.

Willie,

The FSDO, screwed up the paperwork, they are not used to Canadian transfers in Texas as they are in New York, so they had to resend all the paperwork again, got another temporary license for 90 days, and then there was the whole politics and shut down of the government which I'm sure slowed things down. Now I'm off on contract for a few months and have not had the chance to follow up, which I will do once I head back that way. I know of another pilot a very senior Canadian instructor who never got his license either, think he has given up on it for the time being.

Often there are regulations that the people who should know don't know anything about, a good example is the agreement between Canada and the States, no one in Texas is aware of this or even how to properly issue you a license according to the parameters of the agreement.

@ Willie

I have a Canadian license and an ICAO license from Nigeria( with all my Canadian privileges)
I think i will have to transfer the type to my Canadian then to my foreign license.
Going through the AIM(LRA-BASA agreement-IPL) and CARs now for the prerequisites to get this done.
If im not mistaken i will need to take the TC application form for the rating and have it signed off plus get all other supporting documents from the training facility in Miami.
Phone number below is wrong, does anyone have an idea of the correct contact #

I get it now. Thanks for taking the time to fill me in. Good luck, but I'm sure it will arrive.

If you train in Miami as a Nigerian crew with Nigerian licences you will probably get an ICAO type check and the Nigerian CAA will put the type on your Nigerian licence.
Not the same check ride as TC or FAA. ICAO is an easier ride in my opinion.

If you bring the TC paperwork your check airman will likely need TC authorization to conduct the ride (I stand to be corrected on this). If they are authorized to conduct the type check you won't need to bring the TC paperwork. They'll likely already have it. So, you may want to call Air Carriers at TC to verify this before you try it. If you can have the Miami check airman sign and submit the TC paperwork he can also sign your licence booklet with the temporary type rating in it, you're in great shape.

Once that's done you can go on the FAA website, download the form, fill it in, then send it off to OKC. If everything is cool with TC when the FAA check with Ottawa regarding your medical, licence and type ratings then they will put it on your FAA certificate.

My apology if any of this is way off.
