Heathrow obviously has a very complicated baggage system, but I'm more talking about getting on an airbus at a small regional airport, for my 30 or so flights a year if I've checked in super early then more often than not my bag is one of the first five out.

Anyway, sorry for such a thread drift. The only thick passenger comments I've had is on delayed flights, after we've called for the cabin crew to secure the cabin, they'll buzz through and say that a passenger has just told them they have a connecting flight with the same company. By this point we are about 7 mins to landing, what do they expect us to do? If they'd told us when they boarded (which some often do) we'd radio ahead and get some information for them, but so late in the flight is pretty useless.

I do know that if some of the chaps found matching bags, one used to go up first and then the other one would be last. Little things would keep you entertained in the mushroom farm...

A pax complained of a strange smell, but there was absolutely nothing. She then asked for an upgrade to the front row with legroom free of charge, so that the smell would not give her a nosebleed... what the heck?

I used to see letters from passengers with their complaints. One classic was : "There was a strong smell of irene from the toilets."

Oh, poor Irene! I'm sure it's not her fault.

Recently had the misfortune to position on a Ryanair flight. During the melee that they call boarding, i overheard a fantastic conversation between two young ladies from the essex area.

Whilst in a quandry as to where the best seats were, they discussed removing the "reserved" notices, because "no one would Know"

Then one had a fantastic idea, why not use the "disabled" seats at the back.

Gosh, is that's an upgrade? I thought an upgrade was a flat bed, 17" IFE and Champagne? ;)

Overheard at Barcelona on Sunday :

Agent : "Sorry, but your bag is overweight"
Pax : "Why?"
Agt : "Because it weighs 27 kilos and you are allowed 20."
Pax to other half : "I told you you'd packed badly, shall we re-arrange the stuff inside so it weighs less?"

Travelling out of Gatwick on TCX I checked a suitcase in which was under allowed weight. I was then asked to put my hand luggage on scales which was a couple of kilos above the 5 kilo limit.

The agent told me to remove items from hand baggage and place in suitcase.


Now one of the reasons that limits on suitcase weight was brought in was good old Health & Safety on behalf of baggage handlers.


As I am the only one handling my hand baggage but my suitcase in being lifted by others this is nonsensical is it not?

Well not necessarily. Weight on an aircraft is not as simple as staying within the maximum limit. The positions of those weights throughout the aircraft are also extremely important in order for it to remain in balance during flight. :)

I do not think that this ruling is for trim. Perhaps it is a limit for the overhead lockers and in the case of Russian airlines the escape slide or life raft as the case maybe.

TCX have a hand baggage limit of 5 kilos which is extremely small considering the weight of the bag to start with. I now use a super lightweight cabin bag to at least give me a headstart.

I thought this was a forum for denigrating 'thick' passengers. Given your recent post and I quote:-

Where exactly should 'thick' passengers put these pocketed items when they're waiting in line for a tray???

Maybe the title of the thread should be 'Thick Passenger and Thick Cabin Crew' comments.

Start putting them into their bags, coat/jacket pockets that have to come off anyway that way when their turn comes to getting a tray it's straight forward and takes a few seconds to remove a jacket and belt and pop the bag/carry on on the x ray conveyor...
