First of all - thanks for all the great information.

Second, all you people, who has been invited for assessment and interview or already has been offered a job at Easy Jet, what kind of experience did you have when applying? Total hours of flying, hours on type, type-ratings, job in other airlines etc?

Why not go straight to source and ask easyJet recruitment direct. You would be rather dissapointed if someone on here said "yes that's ok" and then you turned up at your assessment and was told "no chance".

At my recruitment day in Sydney in May, they said that visa's are your own responsibility. You must have either an EU Pasport, Ancestry Visa for a permanent contract, or a Working Holiday Visa for a 1 year contract.

As an Australian Citizen, if you are under 30, you are eligible for a Working Holiday Visa. That will allow you to work in the UK for a year, and by then your passport should have come through.

As GOOMG said, check with recruitment to be sure...

Good luck for the interview. Practice your PA's, be friendly and speak up, but most importantly... BE YOURSELF!

For anyone who hasn't read page 9, there is a full run down of the day. Not sure if anything has changed since then.

I applied for Easy Jet a while ago but was turned off by the salary... 9,000 pound a year or something?

Not very much at all.

Sara,
Have a look online at the UK Visa page.
Essentially it's a working holiday visa for two years, which grants Australian's the ability to work for 12 months - which is what EasyJet are offering - a 12 month work stint. www.ukvisas.gov.uk is where you want to have a look.

Can any of the exisiting/past EasyJet crew shed some light on the pay involved? Is the base 9000 pounds? If so, what sort of money do you get for flying/comission etc? I'd love the oportunity, but I'd also like to eat and not live in a cardboard box when I get to England, if I got the job!!! (Hey, not that there's anything wrong with a cardboard box... just a little hard to groom in the mornings

Iwould preseume it would depend on which base you're at re. the amount you fly, and thus the money you receive, if this is the case, any idea of which base I should try for?

Thanks guys

The Working Holiday Visa is designed for holiday makers, but there is a little bit of a loop-hole that easyjet uses to allow you to work a one year contract.
British citizens coming to Oz, can only work for the same company for 3 months, so keep having to change jobs, but this requirement does not apply for Aussies going to the UK.

Once you Italian passport comes through, you will have to leave the UK on your Aussie Passport, then re-enter on your Italian one, just to make sure that there is no record on your Aussie passport that you overstay your visa.

Your base salary as a probationary crew member is around £9000. After probation (usually 6 months), it goes up to around £10,600. This means that for the first 6 months your take home pay will be around £600 per month plus flight pay.

Flight pay is depends on the length of the sector. With the Summer schedule I averaged around 70 sectors per month (120 Hours). With the winter schedule, it is around 50 sectors per month (80 Hours). Each sector pays roughly £8 - £18. Plus you then get commission, £5 - £20 per day, depending how much you sell. One guy got £600 in a month from commission alone. You should budget that you will take home £1200 a month, realistically you will get more than that, but it is best to be conservative.

What most trainees fail to completely understand, is that you are going to be completely broke for the first few months! You are paid monthly, in arrears, so you won't get your first pay check until about 4 - 5 weeks after you start training, but this will be your base salary, less uniform, travel and hotel deductions. Here is a breakdown of my monthly pay...

End of Month 1 £450
End of Month 2 £500
End of Month 3 £650
End of Month 4 $1050
End of Month 5 £1300

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT REFERENCES
Most Aussies seem to have to wait ages for their airside ID's. This is because the references have to come all the way from Australia. I waited 4 weeks. Very boring! The only way to avoid this is to go over your 5 year history very carefully, and ensure that it is exactly right. You need to have the correct names, addresses etc. All gaps of 14 days or more, must be explained. Then once you get the job, you need to advise all your references that they will be contacted by EasyJet for a reference. This has to be provided in writing, and the original posted to Luton by the referee. I reccommend buying some Registered Post envelopes form the post office, about $11. Give them to your references, so they can use them when they post them.

Sounds all very frustrating, which it is, but necessary in the current climate of aviation security.

Good luck to the Aussies, we need more of us!!!

Flyer, if BA pull the route in the summer (as galley FM seems to be saying), I'd put money on them trying for slots to operate the route.

Ref's

Hey

Like has already been said it is a complete 5 year history they require to gain an 'Airside Pass'.
Lets say for exaple, in a typical year, you worked for one company between January and June. You would be required to provide details of your employer so that the I.D Dept. can send out a reference questionaire.
Now, like you said, temping could prove more difficult; so lets imagine, for the rest of the year you worked for a temping agency. More important than the charector reference itself, the employer needs to confirm dates. My guess is that a 'temping agency' would be able to supply this information.
In the U.K, we have also had to get the Inland Revenue to back up these dates by asking them to provide a letter containing all of our employments within the last 5 years. Typicaly if any periods of employment don't appear on the letter, these are cross referenced with another party, of whom you have been known too for a number of years.

To give you an idea I finished my training about 6 weeks ago, and I have just got my pass. After training your sent home on basic pay, but are responsible for chasing your own ref's. (boring and frustraing!!)

I am not an expert, but hope this helps!!

If you can't get work references get personal references instead. It has to be someone that knows you(for atleast 5 years) and can vouch for what you were doing over that specific period.

Make sure that you put these personal references on your application form as the company cannot change your nominated referees once you have actually given them.

Another option is to get a letter from the TAX office showing the tax the employer paid on your behalf. They usually know what to send you when you tell them that it is for an airline airside pass.

A word of advice though try and get all the references before you start your training. It happens to alot of people and sitting at home counting the seconds whilst waiting for a reference to arrive can drive you insane. Add to that loss of income etc. etc. you will be setting yourself up for a fall if you leave it to the last minute.

Ref's

A company that no longer exists, or the fact that a manager or person you were responsible too no longer works at a company, does not mean they will accept that period on your word. Like said above, someone will have to vouch for that time.

Good advice to start chasing your ref's as soon as they have been sent. I had no idea that it would take this long. You think that everything will be sorted by the end of the four week training course, but sadly in a lot of peoples cases, you end up going INSANE!!!!!
