pac blue

Hi guys, I have a problem and i am not sure what to do. I love dj so much and so it got me thinking about next year and when i can re apply. I would be so upset again to not get through but of coarse it is higly possible I wont, so I was thinking of applying to pacific blue as well. After all it is the sister airline of Virgin, (same call sign too!..DJ84 etc) and they fly to aussie places, including Melbourne Brisbane Gold Coast and Sydney, wear the same uniforms, have the same big red planes etc but I don't know if I could live in NZ. It would be so hard, but I am so desperate to be a DJ flighty. (I know I don't post much but i follow this thread all the time! plus on another cabincrew forum I post way too much there hehe)Also why I was thinking this is because that would possibly give me 3 chances a year at virgin, one for OZ Cabin crew, one for NZ cabin crew and one for OZ ground crew. I think i would move for sure to nz if say one of you guys got the job and were moving with me, but being only 18 (19 then), to move all alone to a totally new country where I've never lived alone, i dont know if i could do it but i want so much to get into DJ im really confused and just wish wish wish so much more than anything else i could get into Melb (or even bne!!!) based DJ. aahh now im rambling and starting to scare myself hehe Im really upset, also with the fact that im not going to bother applying to JQ or JQI because of the conditions. So i dont have many options. thanks for letting me ramble, all the best to all you guys who have medicals, training etc and to STF for first day of flying your all so lucky. You really really are, nice one guys

also i know what your all going to say "don't give up just keep trying and trying etc" and I plan on doing that, im being patient but I just dont want to be trying for like 10 years, all the time wishing my uniform was white and beige and I was in a plane @ 30,000 feet, not a building (unless its an airport building haha). I enjoy my job but only as much that one can when im holding onto the fact that DJ is my dream, and thats where i really want to be. xoxo bye for now

Hi everyone, this is my first time posting on this thread but i follow it religiously since i found it! I'm going to a VBRD on the 20th sept and am so scared its not funny. But im just taking it all as experience and if i walk away with that i'll be pleased! I have been following the life of julia, fyd, stf and so on and its all so exciting! well done guys!
The tips you guys have posted on this site have calmed my nerves a bit, but im so worried im not the picture perfect 'VB' girl...to be honest is it all like that, i guess its the competition that is throwing me off!
Anyway any little tips along the way would be super, but best of luck to you all and i guess at least once somewhere along the process we're all in the same boat...

Love me

FYD----- YAY!! Congrats on the medical! Thats great news!
I'm sure you'll be fine!! But i know its scary! Let us know how the medical went, the doctor i went to told me straight away that i'd passed the medical.

ck84 -A good friend of mine is going to the same VRD as you!

STF - sounds like a eventful and fun first day for you! Yay for overnights at OOL!

njsboi- So jealous you're move is over... and glad you made it back safely!
I'll call you when i get to MEL!

Just to advise everyone....leaving Dubai is PAINFUL!
Getting visa's cancelled (had no passport since monday..... get it back tomorrow... along with my ticket!) collecting final monies, collecting police certificates to say i've been a good girl for 4 years, letters from the bank and phone company to say i'm all paid up.... and it goes on and on!
Of course this is thru 40deg heat and horrendous traffic!
Thank goodness its all over tomorrow...

WAHOO!! Bring on thursday morning! Soon i'll be on that plane home!

Right.... i'm off to finish packing my suitcase and getting a good night sleep..
Next time i post... It will be on ans AUSTRALIAN internet connection!!

Hey all! :D

Hey everyone!!!

Firstly, congrats FYD on getting a medical invite!!! I knew you would!! Don't stress about the lung capacity test; I had a very weak one and thought I was going to fail it, but as I am on the petitie side, the nurse checked it against my height and weight and said it was pretty normal for my size... so nothing wrong there!! Also, plenty of pilots fly even though they have asthma; as long as they carry medication if required or follow any other instructions it is fine, so I don't see it being a problem for cabin crew!!

Glasses are not a biggie either, as long as you can see well enough to evacuate a plane, you'll be right!!! I hate to think if I ever had to evac without my glasses, but I could still see enough to get people out (they'd all just look the same!!! )

STF, wow you must be so pleased to have got that 'scary' first day over with!!! Hahaha, it's funny you could opt to do the demo or not - I had no choice!! Thought, being thrown 'in the deep end' in a sense really helped me just get over it and relax!!! I too have had hassles with life jackets, they really are the most unweildy, uncooperative pieces of equipment to demonstrate!!! I'd rather have to show pax the PBE, muuuuuch easier!!!!

Service felt funny for me at first too, but you will be doing it with your eyes closed before you know it!!! So many things we think will be scary or that we will stuff them up or won't be able to do it (like getting rid of a sick bag for the first time, euw! ) but before you know it you'll have done it!!!

Enjoy your overnights, can't wait to hear how the rest of your online training goes. (Do you have the same buddy the whole time, or do you swap halfway? Are 'buddies' specially chosen and do they do extra training to 'show' you how to do everything?)

Seeya!!

DJTibby - although PB is a sister of DJ and you will be wearing the uniform, you will still have to apply externally for a new job at DJ if you were working for PB. A couple of Kiwi's have come over and apart from having the experience to help them through the interview it was basically like applying for a different company. They also had to go throught the whole EP course as well as NZ and OZ have slightly different procedures and rules. So it seems like a lot of hassle to me. Just wait some more get some customer service experience and keep reading posts like these for any tips you can get.

Hey tibby... 3 guesses to who this is sorry havent been on msn for a while, been away heaps with work and just cant be bothered to be honest!

Hun - stay in aus, moving to nz could potentially be the worst mistake i have ever made. Its expensive and you dont earn much money for a tough job with flights that have less crew because of the laws. If you want to apply go for it, they recruit regularly over here at the moment, the interview is still tough though and you would have to come over for the interview. They get good trips, a lot of overnights in aussie, some in the pacific islands and in nz dependant on your base (akl or chc).

However if you did come over you have my email and of course i would do my best to be a friend and introduce you to new zealand - its hard to get back to aus when you're not earning what you used to and as wirgin blew said you are just applying to DJ again to get back to aus.

All the best sweetie

I Passed My Medical

Hi guys, well I had my medical today. So very scary.

I passed everything- I thought I had bombed out when I did the lung capacity test. The nurse kept telling me to blow for longer and I just couldn't. Then I had the hearing test and thought I was deaf. After all of that (in a distressed state) I went outside to wait for the doctor. He checked everything and told me I had passed everything. So YAY I passed my medical. WOO HOO!! .

How long do you think the wait is between the medical and getting a phone call?? I am thinking there will be an October training school. They wouldn't be giving people a medical if there wasn't one coming up soon.

Followyourdreams....see it wasnt that bad was it??? and i think theyre pretty hard to faiingl unless your deaf/blind or something really wrong.
I think VB has another secret up there sleeve...its pretty uncommon for them to knock you back after your medical!!!! unlike our other budget competitor!!!So you never know...they might have dates for another ground school!
I read in another forum VB might be changing the crew component atm
1:36, but hear they might be going to the rest of the world standart(well at least trying to) 1:50....HMMM then whats with all this hiring at the moment.... i hate when airlines have things up their sleeves hahahha!
FYD you will be fine... took them a week for mine...as the medical place didnt fax it properly... and they called exactly 4 weeks to the day...if thats any indication!!!!
hmmm what to do today? i guess i should unpack the car...see friends...forgot how cold and lazy i get in MEL hgahahhaha

How bizarre- if they planned to make the amount of passengers per cc more, why would they need to hire more staff????? That makes no sense to me. Do you really think that is going to happen?

I want VB to ring me now- I can't wait anymore. Its doing my head in hahahaha

I know the feeling...It was like that for me for the past 2 months... am i or arent i comming home??? im sure it wont be to long till you get the job offer!!! like someone told me its very rare that DJ boots you out after the medical!
hmmm and about the crew thing... i hope aus never changes its crewax component.... it was hard enough with 117 and 4 crew on the 717.... especially short sectors its a bugger!!!
youll be flying before you know FYD!!!!just a matter of time now

hey ck...i will admit i did one...was about 1.5 years ago....and personally it did help with interview questions and how to act!!!! personally i would never tell an airline i did it... was more of a personal thing for myself!
will admit as well...i didnt get dj crew first go(have only just got it) but it deff opens your eyes to the interview progress and i got a great book with alot of airline information.... i guess it depends what you want it to do for you...and if you can justify the $?

ck84- personally this website helped me get through my VRD. I printed out this entire Virgin thread and highlighted things people had said that were relevant. I studied for a week or so and then just stayed focus the entire time at the interview. istill can't actually believe I had my medical today and passed!!!

I really have no idea how I am going to tell my boss! I have so much going on at work at the moment- they are going to be so pissed. Oh well stiff sh*T, its my life and I'm going where my heart and head are telling me to go. I really hope I love it in the air- I'm pretty sure I will. I can't think of anything better then taking off a few times a day and being on a plane flying around the country. I must admit - I have seen very very little of my own country so this will definitely be a good thing.

Do you get a chance on 3-4 day trips to see a bit of the cities you are in? Or is it sleep and get up and get back to the airport?

FYD, i dont wanna be a bubble burster already.... but i will bring it to your attention as you already know....flying isnt as glamourous as it seems!
its long hours(1 in the air is said to 2 on the ground)....you miss special days...overnights are boring and long when you dont click with the crew and can be boring on long flights!
and to be honest it isnt for everyone.... i just say this cause i read your last post

I jsut say this cause i saw it when i was on the ground.. 2 girls fresh outs ground school and they were already bitching "its not what they expected"
OMG im sooo sorry if it sounds like im having a did.... hmmm its just something that gets my goat
newbies thinking its all fun and games...as i said when i started flying for NJS if it wasnt what i expected... or didnt like it "leave"
BUT as i can see from your posts... your keen and have a passion for it...which is what i did and STILL do! im sure youll have your own reasons for flying!me i personally love take off and landing...lol being forced against my seatbelt like a rollercoaster is a real BUZZ hehehhe
sorry for saying the truth(not aimed entirely @ you).... grrr dunno why its just something that always got my goat hahahah

Greetings from the Gold Coast!

Hi everyone!

Hi from my 2nd overnighter in the Gold Coast!
I am supposed to be asleep as I have a 5am pick up from the hotel, but it is now 9.30 pm and I have just eaten my dinner in the cafe downstairs at the restaurant, and I came across these computers in the foyer of the hotel, so I decided to say hello and keep going with my diary.

Virgin Blue Online Training, Week 1, Day 2.

Today was my first trip. 3 days. Todays Itineary was Melbourne to Sydney, Sydney to Cairns, Cairns back to Sydney and overnighting in Sydney. My buddy who is training me online went sick today, so I got another buddy. It is really difficult when you have a different buddy every day, because just as you are getting used to learning from one person, then you have to modify to suit the new trainer!

It was ok though, and today was the first day that I had to be actual crew. I had to operate a door (open and close it and arm and disarm it) and I HAD to be on a trolley. After the first 2 sectors it got a bit better and I had some idea on what I was doing. My safety demonstration got better too, and now I can say that I am not too stressed out when I do it THANKGOD!!! For a minute there I thought I would have heart palpitations every time I had to do a safety Demonstration!!

From Cairns back to Sydney, I got time to do FACE PAINTING!! How much fun did I have painting kids faces Spiderman, a Butterfly, Love Hearts and Flowers. It was just great to see the look on the kids faces when they saw themselves in the mirror. Oh it was good fun. The best part of today was when at the end of the flight back to Sydney as we were going towards the bus to take us to the hotel, I saw some of my face painting victims at the carousel waiting for bags and they all waved at me! It was such a pleasure to have them wave at me. I felt very special indeed.

Even the Cabin Supervisor thanked me for doing the face painting, and I even had a few of the other passengers watching me do it - and even this old guy asked me if I could paint his face. When I said yes, what did you want me to do, he asked me to paint him younger!!! How funny!!!

Anyway, I ended up having dinner with my cousin in Sydney. They took me out to this really nice restaurant in Bondi - not too far away from the hotel. It was great to see her and her husband and their 3 year old. I have had a great day. Tomorrow I do Sydney to Melbourne, Melbourne to Adelaide and then Adelaide to Coolangatta. Overnighting in Coolangatta. I am really looking forward to it all.

FYD, well done on the Medical. YAY - you will be joining us soon!!!

VBRD on September 20? Great - that means that there will definitely be a training school go through in October. I don't think if they didn't have one planned for then that they would bother hiring again this year. Well done to everyone in getting an invitation to it.

NJSBOI, welcome back to Melbourne. See you online soon

Hostee, have a safe trip home

Until next time,

All my love...

STF

NJSBOIS- For a start this a forum to express all of your concerns and that is exactly what I am doing. To be quite honest with you, I have been in the hospitality industry for many years (I'm 27 now) and know exactly what a long days work is!!! I have personal reasons for getting into cc and like yourself love the take off. My personality for a start would fit perfectly with this job as I love being around people (I tend to be a natural with customer service and everything that goes with it. I love people and meeting new people). When I brought up the fact I haven't seen my own country - obviously you travel around the country with this job so I think it was a very valid point that I brought up. Obviously I have never been cc so I posed the question for someone to answer. I have flown many times in my life so I can see that it isn't a glamorous job. Please don't make me look like a ditzy 18 year old trying to get into the industry for all the wrong reasons. I have a fantastic job at present, so don't need the job as a cc to see my own country I just thought I would ask seeing as that is what cc do (travel around the country).

Not meant to be rude, but am so not in that ditzy category- FAR FROM

Heya, was just about to ask your age, but you said it in your last post I wanted to know your age for my own personal (statistical) reasons You go girl with this (possible) FA job, and dw, I'm sure njsboi didn't mean to offend...

And about the 18yr-old ditzy stereotype... grrr!!

I'm gonna go uni next year, work my butt off, get a degree, and keep on trying with CC... lol thats what STF did... wow, she's got a degree and is now working as CC, I think thats great! There's nothing better then tertiary education I rekon.. otherwise you're at the basic level of year12, and in a country as beautiful as Australia where we all have opportunities, we're blessed.
Anyway, thats my ratbag view... didn't mean to offend those who are CC without any degree... I congratulate and envy you at the same time for your current work position

I went on a trip with Swinburne Uni yesterday calle 'Behind the Scenes in Aviation', and only one kid per HS was chosen... and I was the only one from my school It was all for free, we had to be at Hawthorn 8.15am for registration, and I had previously met this pilot student on pprune who was crazy about flying, but he went to a private school and was never informed of this tour through Swinburne, so I gave him the details, and he too came along and we got to meet up (since we'd been talking on msn al this time). It was a really good and extremely informative day. We had talks from a VB Captain named Cameron who had graduated from Swinburne 10yrs ago, and then a talk from some Melbrouen Airport Manager named Sarah who had also graduated from Swinburne. We also went and saw the Qantas simulators, and were told that whichever kid writes about the tour and submits it to their school newsletter then gets it printed etc and sends a copy into Swinburne, would be in the running for a free 2-hours session in one of the simulators! wow!! most of the guys were going crazy when they heard about it... we got to enter some of the simulators that weren't in use, its amazing how much in looks like a real cockpit on the inside (on the outside, its like a huge box!) and we also saw the training pool for flight attendants, the mock airplane where they train, and the giant slide they jump down etc... I think other airlines have their FA's do training at Qantas, don't they? I think thats what you told me STF.. or maybe I've gotten it wrong..
Though the day was great fun, I still came out with a sickening, helpless feeling knowing that I can't do anything else until next year when I get another chance at applying to the airlines, but still, my chances are slim.
In the mean time, I'll study, study, STUDY! Three more weeks of school... whoop whoop!!
And FYD, I was amazed when I read that you had printed and highlighted important parts of this thread... now thats dedicationg!
xox meeeeeeee!
