AO Forum

Can anyone let us know what happened at the Australian Airlines Forum yesterday? Was there any new 'announcements' etc?

No announcements.

Seems like lots is happening behind the scenes. Andrea said she expects to be seeing us within the next 1/4 to make some announcements.

Will no doubt be announcements then.

A question was asked re Jetstar International and Bali, to which she said it would be silly of J*International not to do Bali as Bali suits their business model better than ours. So it looks like Bali will be one of their first destinations and one that we will no doubt hand over to them.

No much else to report otherwise apart from the usual financial side of the business.

I would personally think AO will probably become jetstar, and the brand closed again.

If qantas were happy to continue to have older 767's flying around to long-ish haul destinations like Japan, they would not have introduced the A330-300. To put those 767's back into qantas tails and continue to fly them to current AO destinations, would take the image of Qantas' long-haul product back with no proper IFE or skybeds etc. Even JQ international wont fly them internationally!.

I think the 767's will be reconfigured back to domestic to replace the A330-200's heading off to jetstar. The name Australian Airlines will be parked, for future use (again!). And the AO crew will be offerred possies with JQ.

I think some of the routes AO does might be picked up by QF mainline, but considering the dramatic drop off in Japanese tourism to Australia of late (and the arrival of Japan Airlines into the Oneworld Alliance = codeshare !!), I think they will be happy to let most destinations go.

My thoughts only!

Thanks for your thoughts, but some of them are a bit off the mark. Lets be honest AO is the ace in QFs' deck of cards. Reason...... The crew!! The news from JQ is that it will be hiring its own long haul crew.... not ones transferred from AO. Where there is uncertanty, there is speculation!
QF is focusing now on 2 brands, JQ and QF. AO operation comes under the QF brand. There's your answer cart_elevator.

Rainy Parade

Sorry to rain on the parade guys and gals. Can't ever see AO becoming Jokestar International (ALL DAY ,EVERY DAY, LOW PAY) . Bold statement, and the reason being ,GD does not want the QF pilots union (AIPA )becoming respondants to the JetStar award . Due to legal reasons if they are an international airline then the QF pilots union (AIPA) will be able to negotiate conditions for JetStar International pilots.See High Court decision 118.
What is more likely to occur, as alluded to in previous posts is AO 767's repainted in QF mainline colours and continue flying .Lets face it AO flight attendands and pilots are cheaper than mainline.
Puts more pressure on the mainline awards ,does it not?

sorry max i think you are wrong...AIpa will not be negotiating for Jetstar international and they have already been told that.... its the old AFAP that Qantas is dealing with and they can do that under the new IR laws

GM has left us, there is a freeze on recruitment, where is AO headed? Come on AO crew and friends. Give us some info.....

Hopefully things will become clearer when JQ International announce their routes.

I don't see what relevence the bag searches has to the current discussion, though to answer your question, yes I'm still enthusiastic about the bag searches, even though I have never been searched, and for the matter have never heard of AO crew being searched..........obviously there is no suspiscion there, unlike others!

Have yourself a great day.

It doesn't matter Raver, if you cant see the correlation its understandable!

Anyway I saw the new uniform the other day it looks great on you guys.

I have been attending quite a few forums lately and the AO subject always comes up, basically no one has a clue what is going on.
Its always about the bottom dollar, if it affects managements bonuses then they go nuts! they don't give a faarrrk about the human factor.

If anyone will know its QF skywalker, where are you by the way?

At the last team forum Andrea said she will be back within the 1/4 to announce everything. Meaning all the questions that she hasn't been able to answer regarding AO's future or direction. She did say that they are currently working through everything at the moment, and they naturally can't specifiy until it's all confirmed.

So nobody knows what will happen until the announcment which should be in a month or two. I'm guessing it will be in line with JQ Internationals announcements.

Hope this gives you an insight as to where it stands at the moment.

Have a great night,

Question

cartex,
I'm still around......but for the first time in my aviation career am speechless as I have no idea what is going to happen to our bunch of unique 300 odd cabin crew - this time I truly am lost for words.
Does one apply to other airlines and get a head start over the others at AO who will all apply for other carriers if the transfer to JQ intl goes wrong ?
Do we sit paitently and pray for QF to rescue us and make our operation a QF base (ala jetconnect) and offer us a choice of either JQ intl or choice of QF base - syd s/h, syd l/h, bne s/h etc.
I don't know ????
One thing is for sure. I have wanted this career and lifestyle my whole life and nothing will stop me continuing my pursuit to have the flight attendant career I want. If it turns out that my move to AO was the wrong choice then I will hold my head high and seek employment elsewhere..but...for now it's business as usual for me - still smiling every day at work and putting my heart into everything I do at work. I just hope that QF realise this and look after each and every one of us at AO with their decision as to our future.

Tick, Tock

Good luck AO-lians, I believe you are the best of the QF Group - in fact AO is the only QF Group company that I ever considered working for (not that I am saying anything negative about the crew from the other parts of the QF Group though!) and I hope that the Tick Tock that QFSkyWalker (unfortunately) correctly refers to is not the countdown to a timebomb

May the Force be with you

Angry start considering options

AO guys should not rely on AS or anyone to come up with a more positive solution. there are several options QF is looking at, but make no mistake it is not going to be one you guys deserve or like. there are already too many f/a's in qf (forced LSL is back again). then you have J* expanding domesticially and soon international which does not help QF short or longhaul. the airbus A380 doesn't arrive till september 07 (stay tuned for possible further delays). if you have the opportunity to jump ship to EK or someone else do consider it.as far as GD is concerned you are an expandeble commodity.

Hang in there QFskywalker.
Hmm No advice to give, hard one, I thought you would know!
See what they offer, at least you have the option to say get faarrrked to them! hope it doesn't come to that!
We are all going to cop it in the next few years.
I would like to put my hopes in the FAAA to lead us, but that doesn't appear to be an option anymore they are farcical.
However miracles can happen and Darth may take up a job with Macquarie Bank.
(wishful thinking)
We may get a replacement that is not so greedy and he or she may have some human emotions and see that staff are an asset not a liability.
I do know that they are recruiting in AKL again, interviewers are being sent there for 10 days.
Anyway good luck

For all you 300+ Cabin Crew at AO, if you want to start exploring options, I would get moving. 1 of the only options for you in CNS is a little company called National Jet. We are the 'jetconnect' of QANTASlink. We fly 8 Boeing 717's (no doubt you have seen). We ARE NOT QANTAS, we are National Jet Pilot's and Cabin Crew, in QANTAS uniforms in QANTAS planes. They have around 25 Cabin Crew in CNS at present, and I do believe they are short. I know a few girls that jumped ship to AO from National Jet, and they say the $$ were better at National Jet, but they had more variety of flying (and in those days better planes) at AO. Anyway our 'new' jets are nice, variety of flying is pretty dull, but the cash is good, crew are friendly, you'll acutally associate with the Tech Crew (on flights I've done (Pilot) out of CNS, I quite often see the Cabin Crew come up front and have their breakfast)... and most of all u get to stay living in paradise. Good luck!!!

QF S/H

Dear Colleague,
Flight Attendants’ Association of Australia – Short Haul Division (Qantas Airways Limited)
Enterprise Agreement 7 Consolidated
The SH EBA 7 Ballot result was declared on Saturday 18th March. The negotiations were constructive
and detailed and we are pleased to announce it was approved by 58.7% of crew who voted.
Total number of votes returned - 2,022
Number of ‘YES’ votes approving the Agreement – 1,187
Number of ‘NO’ votes opposing the Agreement - 835
As previously mentioned EBA 7 is a substantial document because it consolidates EBAs 1 through to
6, in conjunction with the new provisions for EBA 7. The EBA will now be filed with the Australian
Industrial Relations Commission (AIRC) for Certification.
Additional information on the Agreement can be obtained from either Qantas or the FAAA. If you have
any queries, please contact your Manager.
Regards,
Alison Webster
General Manager Cabin Crew

So, the qf s/h agreement is about to be passed through. This may get the ball rolling for AO's transfer to QF..... Good luck guys!

Angel J*I

For all those wondering i have heard along the great galley gossip grapevine that our first international ports will be phuket and then honolulu, these apparently have been approved already & first international ground school is nearing its completion. We as J* cabin crew have been hearing also that our domestic progression into international will be merit & seniority based with QF management going through individual files to decide on progression.

But in all honesty with the EBA being voted down (thank god!!!!) i wouldn't be suprised if J* ends up employing OS like it did with our New Zealand routes. Why pay us (jack all) when 10,000 a year is like gold to thai people????

And just a querie off the topic can cabin crew at QF or AO please inform me can you do BOC flying signing off at say 0530 then sign on again at 1730 the same day following a duty of up to 9hrs45??? This is what they are expected us to vote yes to in this voted down EBA. Do you blame us for voting no???

We may be a low cost airline but why should we be expected to work for less??? Are we all not part of the same team???? I understand yes you do more work ie full service (which I would Love to do) overnights, wide bodied aircraft etc but why should we always be thought of as the lower group, we are all high standard individuals.

"first international ground school is nearing its completion."
Cherrie - do you mean the PREPARATION for Intl ground school is near completion, or that AN ACTUAL SCHOOL is almost finished?

I have it on good authority that they haven't got so far as to recruit for International yet, everything is for domestic as Sydney is so short of crew.

They have started developing the procedures for the A330, but the training department is very busy just with domestic right now, and they still don't have the long haul management team in place yet (that they advertised for 2 weeks ago).
