Must have joined the Qantas Group before 1 January 2005.
Must be a permanent or temporary (fixed-term) full-time or part-time employee. Casual employees that have worked at least 520 hours between 1 January and 30 June 2005 will also be eligible.

Interesting as well is ;

How much AO lost instead of a profit it made last year, if GD wants to save some money for our sustainable future ,he could always sell AO.

No mention of how much Jetstar Asia lost .

No mention of how much the LHR base is saving the Qantas group.(chuckle…chuckle)

Jet Black Monaro....Just on the news....

VirginBlue profit is rumoured to be down by as much as 30% to a possible profit of only $15 million

JBM you're back on the scene, is it a full moon yet?

The cost cutting will really affect you at VB, the face painting colours available to you will be reduced to red and blue.(pale)

Now lets have some more of your wisdom, it really really amuses me!

Here we go, looks like crew will be ok

Qantas prepares to wield the axe
By Scott Rochfort
August 19, 2005

The chief executive of Qantas, Geoff Dixon, makes "no apologies" for his plans to shift thousands of jobs overseas, arguing the airline's 35,000 Australian employees should be grateful they have a job.

"In some ways, although we don't expect to get a thanks, they should be at least saying, 'Gee, for an industry that's in so much turmoil, we've still got decent jobs'," Mr Dixon said.

Despite reporting a record profit of $763.6 million yesterday, Mr Dixon warned Qantas would have to slash costs by a further $1.5 billion by mid-2008 to counter the rising cost of fuel.

Mr Dixon declined to say how many jobs would be cut, but said: "There's not many areas that are not going to be affected."

With the price of oil hovering around $US65 a barrel, the airline says its fuel bill will rise by $1.2 billion this financial year.

Qantas will hold meetings with unions next week amid speculation the airline is looking to move some of its 5500 maintenance staff to countries with cheaper workforces and replace some of its 2000 check-in staff with e-ticket machines.

"We don't go and seek to send jobs overseas. But we're a global company, it's a global airline. We've got 93 per cent of our people in Australia, which is an enormous percentage," Mr Dixon said. "We have been what I believe is an incredibly good citizen in Australia."

Unions are concerned the airline may seek to move administration and IT jobs to India, after announcing the retrenchment of senior managers last week.

In a statement that is sure to inflame the unions, Mr Dixon conceded Qantas was in a strong financial position. "I believe it is in pretty good shape now, for an airline.

"We still make no apologies, I'm still trying give a proper return to our shareholders," he said of the airline which was privatised just over 10 years ago.

"Our shareholders have a right. They're the people who put the money into the company to allow us to grow."

Accused in the past of using crises such as the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, the SARS outbreak and oil price rises as an excuse to cut jobs, Mr Dixon argued that only 400 of the 3000 redundancies in the past four years had been involuntary.

Mr Dixon dismissed any notion Qantas was a mean employer. He said the airline paid decent wages by industry standards and had increased its workforce by 10,000 in the past decade.

"I do not believe anybody in Qantas - expect for some people … the 400 people [retrenched] - should have a reason to feel cheated," he said.

Mr Dixon said Qantas had to cut costs not only because of surging oil prices but also to remain competitive against government-owned airlines such as Emirates and Singapore Airlines.

Qantas plans to save $1.5 billion on top of its three-year $1.5 billion cost-cutting program which expires next June and is already well ahead of budget. Of the $545 million in savings in the past financial year, $150 million came from reduced labour costs.

Mr Dixon's comments are likely to put him on a collision course with the unions, which have expressed disgust Qantas is seeking to cut jobs after reporting a record profit.

The assistant national secretary of the Australian Services Union, Linda White, said it was an "absolute outrage".

"I'd say to them [Qantas senior management] that their bonuses should be cut before any staff member loses their jobs," she said. Mr Dixon stands to pocket up to $1.2 million in bonuses this year, on top of his $2 million pay packet.

Tim Ayres, the NSW president of the Australian Manufacturing Workers Union, said: "I just think that this is a massive profit result. It is a bigger profit on last year's result and this already in a period of intense global competition and rising fuel costs."

sfo base

qf might consider opening a sfo base but they have to talk to the afa (american flight attendants association) or teamsters. good luck. they might find exploring local workers by a foreign company isn't very welcome in the u.s.a

and if GD wants to shift more jobs overseas here is my advise. take qcc/qca/qcb buildings and its contents and shift them as a whole to india. no one is going to miss them

Have heard some dumb things posted on this forum like 'Big Picture' saying that the LHR base would do the JFK shuttle but I think Peanut, you get the prize for the dumbest comment ever made. There are absolutely no plans for a F/A base in the USA. US flight attendants are on far superior wages and conditions then crew in Australia and as it is point to point flying, a base there would cost money then it would save. Not to mention the unions over there would never allow it plus it can't be done in this current EBA anyway plus about a dozen other reasons. It was looked at briefly when they decided about the LHR base and knocked on the head very quickly. With the disaster the LHR based has turned out to be they're not going to make the same mistake again.

The areas being targeted are admin staff (India), heavy maintenance (China) and check-in staff being replaced by automated check-in machines.

Peanut, you just concentrate on getting those meal services done in less than 5 hours and making sure that none of your crew has a drink on the bus!

Good point Lower Lobe,

I don't hear too much about sacrifices from the board when everyone esle is worried about having a job after next week.
Good Point, LL! That's simply because the Board are only worried about the Shareholders - let's not forget that the members of the Board ARE major Shareholders BTW!

To be on the Board you can't possibly have a conscious and you've also gost to be foolish (or just plain dumb) enough to think that the workforce (diligently holding it all toghether for you) doesnt have half an ounce of intelligence to work it all out.

Unfortunately for them, they are so transparent it's almost repulsive.

I think I have about had enough of hearing GD say "By God! Look at this Fu@#%ing Pofit!!!! But dont have a kitten everyone - it is all doom and gloom out there. Whoops! I think I might sack someone"

God Geoff! For F#@ks sake.......... change the record!!!!!!!!

Peanutbrain Bin Laden

Very Good, very Good, and I thought you didn't have a sense of humour.!!

I am beginning to wonder if you are on the LHR base at all and might just be one of the office hacks at QCC or a member of the fear of flying club like Bob the Builder.!!

You came out with the profit announcement very quick indeed as you did with the article from the Australian dated Friday 19 th Aug...Too quick actually, either that or you don't have a life..

A major player in crewing was it..playing is just the word....Methinks someone said it correctly the other day when they said that Mrs Palmer and the 5 children are getting a work out... And Wherever you are don't forget to change hands, you could get rsi

Take your own slant

Trust me if you want but there is a working party looking at another o/s base.
QF9 & QF10 have been given to the LHR base as off next bid period because they are seen as better customer satisfaction generators.
SYD crew will get QF31 & 32,
The Thai crew stand bye's have almost finished now the new recruits have finished training. Just one more class to go and some CSM & CSS positions.
I know when the current EBA expires watch this space, the BKK base is about to grow a little as the full quota of o/s crew has not been used.
I'am actually sick of trying to have a factual debate with some wankers on this board. Choke on your own sh_t from now on, I couldn't give a sh_t about you anymore.
Pro golfer Bullsh_t, look at the new intro wages for a AA f/a, same as a wallmart cashier.
Didn't your father teach you not to turn your back on the ocean ??
There is a tidal wave just beyond the breakers, hope you can swim ars_holes

Ahhh Peanut the bullsh*t just keeps flowing from your mouth.

Australian based crew have been given the QF31/32 flights because it enables them to have a 2 night slip in LHR. It has got nothing to with ‘better customer satisfaction generators’, honestly where do you dream up this total bullsh*t??

The Thai based crew will be up in LHR all next bid period, that’s why all but 1 have been taken off the Frankfurt patterns for bid period 240. Just check the pattern books.

Just spoke to a CSM who paxed on the QF30 (LHR-HKG). 5 hours to do a meal service in J class. Passengers in the end were yelling at the crew to take away their meal trays! Absolutely disgraceful!

Peanut you really sound like you’re getting a bit stressed there, a lot of abuse in that last thread. Sorry that the LHR base didn’t turn the way you hoped. Remember try and get those meal service times down under 5 hours and no crew drinks on the bus if you please.

peanutpusher,

you would have more credibility and generate less angst from other ppruners if the purpose of your posts wasn't so blindingly transparent.

Remember that at Qf we are bombarded daily with lies, spin, half truths and omissions.

Your posts are no different.

Oh BTW

More brand new CSMs, CSSs and FAs coming on line, eh?

The sh#tfight continues.............

Peanut, you forget that the current EBA STAYS IN PLACE until a new one is voted for by the crew.

There are no date limiters in this EBA as there was in the last one, having the date limiter allowed the company to expand the overseas crew numbers even if no new EBA had been voted on.

I guarantee no one will vote in a EBA thats allows the overseas cap to be increased again.

'I guarantee no one will vote in an EBA that allows the cap to be increased..."

aaahhhh, just have a look at the latest AO EBA fully supported and indorsed by our FAAA.....unlimited off shore employment - the horse has already bolted son.

and prone goffer 69 methinks you are the one suffering from verbal diahhhorea - I'm not here or there about LHR - but that 5 hr meal service story is utter crap - I've talked to too many SYD based crew that reckon the service on the LHR routes is fine - one swore he actually saw a qantas f/a smile - take a photo harry!
and if your life revolves around a beer on the bus then you are typical of the f/a intellectual giants who have allowed the erosion of our conditions
- "sure let go the 75% stand down - as long as we can have our jungle juice on the bus oi! oi! oi!" quote from
prone goffer circa 1985

on an earlier post I said the faaa should be "agitating" on o/s bases - wrong word perhaps - but they should at least be INFORMING o/s crew what is happening in Oz.
at present for the new pommy recruits "faaa" stands for
'frivolous and alienated aircrew'.
the $1,000 bonus is a good place to start - it will be paid to UK crew - but not thai or kiwi - these bases need to start harrassing Addeco about their abysmal conditions - how the BKK & AKL bases cannot be counted in the profit rewards is truly outrageous and puts them at a sub human level.
the faaa needs to make the o/s bases so expensive -that the work will naturally flow back to Australia.
its a strategy worth thinking about mobilise those faaa "actives "again

hey golfer 69 -have you EVER Stood for faaa selection or are you just another lounge room hero?

Having flown with the crews back and forward to London on several occassions, I can honestly say that there are no such things as five hour meal services (at least not on the upper deck anyhow, but after all the doom and gloom you hear from Sydney based crew, you tend to keep a bit of an eye on what is going on back in the cabin).

I feel I have to defend them as they are always smiling, cheerful, and in most peoples eyes very efficient. While we all feel for those who have lost their conditions, trying to put down others who are putting some effort into their jobs seems the wrong way to go.

Try putting all your anger towards management, similar to what the tech crew are doing now, and by sheer numbers we may just get somewhere.

The big pinhead, you’re a funny bloke, you’re the one who made the dumbest comment on here about the LHR base doing the NY shuttles. Yet here comes another one ‘sure let go the 75% stand down - as long as we can have our jungle juice on the bus oi! oi! oi!" quote from prone goffer circa 1985’

‘hey golfer 69 -have you EVER Stood for faaa selection or are you just another lounge room hero? I’ve never criticised the FAAA moron, I think doing an excellent job in very difficult circumstances.

I hope you never stand for FAAA selection, having a complete moron like you at the helm and we’d all be sunk for sure Mr Lounge room hero! Too funny! What a hypocritical fool you are.

Big pr!ckture, the bid system was introduced in OCT1988 so you are three years out about the beer! wank wank wank!

the Kiwi crew will get the bonus as they are employed by jetconnect a wholly owned subsidiary.

the LHR crew will probably get a pro-rata bonus as the base has not been going for the full financial year.

the thai crew will not get it as they are employed by adecco.

what other bullsh!it are you going to publish on this, at least you keep us amused,
now what was that about the JFK shuttle? ( would have to be the most idiotic thing I have ever seen on this forum)

on another note folks

have a read of this, quite amusing and they reckon the *star is on the rise.

JBM can we have your spin on this!
it was a full moon last night and nothing from you, did they lock you up for the night!

THE BIG PICTURE

Your level of understanding about anything is woeful mate!

Practically every statement you ever make in here shows your complete lack of understanding about anything.

The AO agreement was approved by the AO membership.... they directed the FAAA to accept the Company's terms. Mijatov was up there (In Cairns)several times at their membership meetings arguing against the Company proposals and was being criticised for being anti AO!

You really have no idea whatsoever. The overseas base inclusion in the AO EBA was never supported by the FAAA, but with only 300 crew in AO and the Company ready to use scab labour against them, those 300 crew had no option but to accept AO managements demands.

Of course Big Picture you are one of those "hero's" that would have knowingly gone on strike indefinitely with full knowledge that AO could easily break such action.

Mate, like many others on here you are full of hot air and more dangerously, clueless about the repercussions that your silly suggestions would bring about.

Pro Golfer, again i agree with your comments completely.... good to see there are people in here with nous and intelligence. Would like to meet you 1 day.

Some of the "hero's" in here should attend the upcoming FAAA meetings at which you can put forward your magical "solutions"..... it will be great entertainment to see the FAAA leadership show up some of you for what you are..... total fruitloops.

In regard to the NY shuttle another crew last week went beyond 17 hours...again demonstrating the bull**** that people are dying on this sector.

To the FAAA i say ..you guys keep doing what you are doing...cause you are spot on..

Listening to morons will lead to compulsory job losses in Long Haul like what is about to occur throughout QF.

The NY dispensation is a correct decision..... not to continue it will lead to loss of LAX flying and we might not even see San Francisco. Dixon would also form the conclusion that he may as well as get rid of the costly "dinosaurs" in Long Haul that are too precious to do on average an hour over what is allowed anyway under normal EBA provisions ( im refering to the NY shuttle).

For any dimwit who construes my comments as pro company... think again.... its simply stating the bleeding obvious.

About time some people in here woke up to themselves...... no point crying if QF announces the windown of Long Haul because its crew don't want to fly some sectors.

There will be lots who will!
