I agree on one thing with Big Brother and that is the faaa should have been more proactive with the LHR base instead of sticking it’s head in the ground and pretending it’s not there or wasn't going to happen!

About as successful as the AO EBA negotiated by the faaa with unlimited overseas bases with no cap on foreign crew, another win for the faaa .Which long term will have a huge impact on QF Long haul flying as is the LHR base.

As for the LHR base doing JFK shuttles to LAX.

1: They have not got enough crew to do the flying they are supposed to at the moment, hence the Thai base in LHR.

2:The cost of paxing an entire crew to JFK from LHR and return , then giving them accommodation and allowances, transport etc in New York …defeating the purpose of transiting SYD based crew to save on accommodation costs etc…in the first place.

Then again this is Qantas management we are talking about and we do have the faaa looking after our interests.

Big Mac 2
as lowerlobe says - if the faaa had of been reacting to the LHR base announcement with their head rather than their bovver boy egos - they would have supported and improved the pay and conditions and ensured EVERY position in London was filled by an Australian based crew member .there would have been NO UK nationals employed and the conditions could have been maintained in line with Aust based crew. As it is, 200 UK nationals are there now and they are real Aust. f/a jobs gone out the window.

to split hairs between short and long haul numbers on the base now is ridiculous . MH has achieved his goal of "all -haul" flying .

our faaa exec now and in the past have always resembled ostrichs -they stick their heads in the sand - and they never fly.

big mac 2 "angst" is ther appropriate term - it means fear - your posts reflect real fear of change and the future hiding behind pseudo - macho bravado.

I was having a beer with a couple of hostie slappers from Brighton at Equinox on the weekend and they were asking me what the pub was like on 44th and whether qantas crew got discount ot Broadway shows - they've obviously been briefed abut the JFK slips.

big pitcher,

can't wait to have the LHR based crew doing the LAX shuttles.

More service failures for the "bastard child" especially without 6 Thais on board to do all the work.

How many dozens [hundreds?] more UK nationals will have to be hired to do the extra?

Especially given the unforeseen hours limitations.

So it is the FAAA that is responsible for offshore job losses is it.....................?
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
Breathtaking logic that one.

I'd double your dosage if I were you because whatever you are on isn't working.

Jettlager

P.S. Has anyone else heard the rumours about the CSS position?
It seems grant's pet sociopath ian jackson has been telling all and sundry that the role is to be canned.

Can the CSS

As a 22 year CSS I don`t get much choice of destination.
As a 22 year Flight attendant I would write my own roster and work the Y/C galley every trip.
Hope the sociopath is right.
Pity the poor CSM though.
Run a jumbo on your own?Whoa mama that`s huge

Travel Thickness,

I think you've summed up the feelings of 90% of both CSSs and CSMs.

If it happens I recon the company will be inundated with CSM downgrades.

What a ****fight it'll be but at the same time a hoot to watch.

To be expected given that those running cabin crew are clueless when it comes to anything "aviation ".

All care, NO RESPONSBILITY and "tell someone who cares."

Ah............................................BRING IT ON.

His lips are moving....

Kylie has been fond of saying how much an integral part the CSS is of the onboard management team.
How the position is so important that it would never be dispensed with.
Lying little tosser!!!

os bases

jet lagger
the faaa is not responsible for off shoring job losses - but it could have controlled the process a lot better - have had some input into the BKK, AKL & LHR set ups instead of just taking the bat & ball and walking away - you cannot now ignore a 890 strong parrallel workforce that could undermine you at any time.
if the faaa is to remain relevant in the future - it has to start getting involved somehow with what is going on re conditions etc on these OS bases
listening to the thais - the BKK base is ripe for revolution they are filthy - 13 day trips, LHR hotel stand byes, any home X day can be turned into an A day then duty ........maybe MM, AS or SR ought to take a junket to BKK on some leave bank days and do a bit of organising and agitating.

The small Pitcher

You cannot have a union/association agitate for anything in another country.
Imagine a Thai Union coming down here to rouse the troops.
It would be about as popular as "the big picture"at a Mensa meeting

Mumbai

For anybody interested can confirm that from the 8th of January Mumbai will be now an A330-300 operation, with a stop in Darwin northbound only. Ground time will be 1 hour and 10 minutes. It will be interesting to see their plans on crewing this duty.

Air time SYD-DRW 4.20

Ground time DRW 1.10

Air time DRW-BOM 8.50

There’s a 14 hours 20 minute duty so far without sign on and sign off times.

A room with a view

I dont often comment in here but do like to read the thread from time to time.

I dont like to be too critical of the FAAA or its official coz i dont think that i could do a better job. but i do call them now and then and talk about the issues. i have called the union many times over the last 20 odd years and no matter who is in there always have been listened to and given respect and i have always given them the same courtesy.

The only thing we have to remember as crew is that these ppl put themselves up for election and offer themselves to us, they are not forced upon

I for one wouldnt want the job, it would be a thankless task in extremely difficult times. The easiest thing for AS and MM to do would be the popular thing and say no to everything that Qantas wanted. Perhaps that would result in them being heralded as the champions of the little guy in this forum, but what woud the long term effect of that be for us crew....I just dont know..

The one thing i do hope is that f/a's get behind our union and support them and trust that as flight attendants themselves (granted on the ground atm) they have information that we dont and are doinng what they honestly believe is the RIGHT thing to protect us.

I hope my trust is not misplaced , i have a mortgage and kids in school. I dont think it is as they havent let me down yet. LHR base was enevitable as soon as there was no CAP of overseas based crew. At least we have one now.

GUys in here please!!! If you have a strategy to make our jobs more secure why dont you outline it to the FAAA or even in here..i for one would like to hear it. If your strategy is just to whinge and moan and critisize then i dont think that will make my job any more secure. If its just to say no to everything that QAntas wants in productivity i dont think thats a longer term solution either.

I like the discussions in here but please let try to be constructive and remember we are all crew first and foremost and not turn on each other like a pack of mangy dogs. It breaks my heart to see us turning on each other like this, It would warm the cockles of Kylies heart i am sure

Kylie also said that the Line managers were an integral part of the company as well and that was just a week or so before they were told they would go.

The word "Loyalty" is definitely not in the QF vocabulary

NYC Dispensation

I would like to see the FAAA get a report from that fatigue expert that the Pilots Assocition are using at the moment in the study they are doing. If the NYC shuttle is so dangerous i am sure it would come out in the report.

THen we could go to the COmpany with something tangible to argue against it on OH&S grounds...

Any view???

Sounds a great idea to me,surely if we can get a report from a reputable body then we can argue that if the techies cannot work for more than so many hours then neither should we.

Luckily no one was killed in the recent Toronto accident and that showed the importance of the role played by cabin crew in an evacuation and as our job is primarily safety related we need adaquate rest

The buzz word or phrase from the company is OH&S so we should throw it back to them and also maybe we can get work cover to do an audit of the work enviroment on the aircraft. They did one on the Jetbase so let's see if they will do one on the aircraft.

my 2 cents 4 today

pegasus you are a kind person. but the reality is that QF currently runs the OH committee. so little is achieved as fatigue and various related issues never make it. oh, i hear they want to bring out a cd for cabin crew about fatigue to help you manage your health better (you know that kind of no alcohol, sleep more, excersie non stop etc ). whoopidoooo, i cant wait.
the research with the pilots hasn't finished yet. to have qf take note the faaa would have to spend some money and get expert opinions (which are readily available)and lobby CASA. highly unlikely with the current excecs as they think they can solve issues industrially. every time they put there head up they get a slap in the face from kylie. anyone know what happen to the IR outcome on the LAX hotel?

Qantas will get what Qantas wants. Recent history has demonstrated that.

The day the rampaging lefty fringe in this forum get that simple fact, their choices in life will become much clearer.

If the FAAA is so good at running an airline, why don't they have one?
