Miss Shagwell

Apparently it will be a secondment and no resigning. It's about time they didn't leave us internals out as they have previous to this!

I know one girl is training next month already on secondment and a handful in Melbourne as well

They must ne desperate!!

They rang to confirm that I would be attending the assesment centre! When I informed them that I already had duty rostered for that day and therefore would not be able to attend, they basically asked me what day would suit ME!?

Very unQantas-like. Usually it's too bad if you can't make it.

At this stage I will probably go along to keep my interview skills polished, but it's a tough choice to go to work for Qantas when I already have a full-time flying job. I always thought Qantas LH would be a bit of fun, but I won't be a scab for anyone!
Decisions, decisions.

Anna Spanna,

Yes QF hard desperate for crew at the moment. The offering of fixed term contracts is to tied them over until the London base opens. If that plan goes ahead they will need less Australian based crew.

As for being scab you don't have to be. As a fixed termer or full time employee at QF on secondment you are free to join the FAAA and take protected industrial action with the rest of us.

QF have already put through a few fixed term contracts. The FAAA needs to get access to these people to inform them of their rights to join the FAAA. However Mark Hassell is preventing the FAAA from using company premises i.e. during training

So at the moment we have a heap of new people out flying who are being branded scabs when in fact they are not aware of their rights because management is interfering.

If I were you I would take a fixed term contract if you can keep your current full time position. We are confident that if everyone sticks together we can force the company into a position where the 370 cap stays in place. Therefore no London base would be able to open.

72 people have applied for the London base so far.

Aloyscious - just Bangkok at the moment. Talk of a Shanghai base has been going around since management mentioned it in March. Unlikely to happen though.

desperate QF

yeah seems QF is desperate, yet the assessment centre was thorough enough to screen ppl that are not appropriate ( perhaps me, who knows? )

As this is my first application I don't know how things r generally done, but many ppl at the ass were saying that there is normally a cut off for arrivals or marked...... late for e.g On my day they waited and waited until they made a decision to start well past 9.00 WE were told that 75 if not more were invited and only 27 showed up, then on top of that many walked out after the recruiter mentioned only a fixed 4-11 month contract. However, my e-mail informed me that it would be fixed, just did not say for how long it was fixed. Then agian my e-mail was different to a few ppl that I was chatting to.

That been said, I got an e-mail from QF today that does not make any sense whatsover, perhpas QF are organising to send out replies to ass days and sent me out something else by mistake, petty it was no gossip I could share with u all.

Cheerio

4-11 months contract...

Hey Guys,

Ive noticed that there seems to be different information at the open days. At the Melbourne Interviews I attended on Tuesday they stated that all the contracts were for 11 months (and yes I did hear correct), however some people on other days have been told 4-11 months.. I dont quite understand why such varied information. Then again, when will one ever understand the way QF operates..

I guess all we can do is wait... Have any states in the recent Long Haul recruitment heard back yet?

Cheers

HI there people, I am wondering if any other residents from the neighbouring country of BKK can apply or only their residents? Thanks!

Aloyscious,

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
FROM THE QANTAS WEBSITE
All Australian-based positions are open to permanent residents of Australia only.

We regret that applicatons cannot be accepted from overseas residents who do not fulfil the Australian residency requirements at the time of application. Overseas residents should check the local employment opportunities at the Qantas office nearest to them. Positions in other countries will be advertised locally.

Information on migration to Australia can be obtained from the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affair
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

FROM STAFFCVWEBSITE.

If you
hold a current passport and senior first aid certificate (or Level 2 equivalent)? (both with at least 12 months validity)

possess a Responsible Service of Alcohol Statement of Attainment

**are a permanent resident of Australia**

are 18 years and above and between 163cm - 183 cm in height?

Then register your details with StaffCV for future opportunities with Qantas.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your post says "if i am not a PR of Australia and residing in Australia" therefore you are not eligible to apply to Qantas as you are not an Australian Resident.

QF Skywalker

Yes I should have said the total number of progression but I was referring to the Perth base and I think only 5 out of the current progression school are going to Perth. But for people that didnt know, there is quite a big progression school down in Melbourne now for short haul.

I've recieved an Email

MANNNN...
I've just recieved an email frm Qantas asking me to do a medical check up and ASIC criminal check.

I have been waiting for SOSOSOOSO long for this and it has finally come.

But today i also went for another interview and it has given me the offer with VERY good pay.

TORN between two..

if only the Email had come 1 day sooner, I would NOT have gone for the interview.

WHY WHY WHY?!

I don't know what to do now!!!!!!!!

Mochaswirl, take the other job until you have confirmation you have a contract for QF.

Thousands of others have ben burnt by QF and their waiting lists etc. Just because you have a medical doesn't mean they guarantee a position for you. When they do you can decide which position to take then.

Good luck to you whichever you choose.

I agree with Iguanahead. You can always resign from the other position if the Qantas job comes through. Although you might get through its also possible you may wait for several months before getting a call.

Take the other job mocha!
For goodness sake don't put your life on hold for QF!
I sat on the shortlist for 15 months only to be told NO at the end of it (oh and the promise of letting us know when they're next recruiting & i've heard diddly squat! F&*^ers!)
Take the other job

MochaSwirl

I received the same email, going for the medical next week.

Your in a bit of a tough position, but if I were you i'd take the other job. QF may never even come thru with the goods then you will be kicking yourself. I did a similar thing a few years ago.....................BIG MISTAKE!!!!

Take the other job and if Qantas does come thru then think about resigning. Hey you might even like your new job and forget all about QF.

Anyway in the end its up to you, do what you feel is best.

take the other job!

Listen to All (waiting game, cart tart ozskipper and iguanahead etc... )

waiting game summed it up perfectly..... u might like the other position. QF is not the be all end all. There are positives and negatives.

I too got 3 positions at the same time, I declined 2, took up one and if QF came through I would look at my options, but the chances are quite low, I'm optimistic but I'm realistic too.

Well done for getting the other job anyways

Thanks

Thanks Everyone for your replies !

Yes, I think I will end up taking the other job... As it seems there are more career development chances there....

However I can't help but feel upset as I have wanted the Qantas job sinces ..... so long ago that I can't even remember! And so much prep has gone into it... inc getting language cert ... etc!

I was just wondering if anyone could tell me approx how much $$ do L/H Fixed Term FA's get? Maybe if the $$ is not that much of a diff frm the other job, I can still consider Qantas... (If they end up offering it to me)

Unfortunately, pay is a factor that I have to put into consideration.

Waiting_game, so good to hear that you got an email too! I hope you make it all the way thru!

And good luck to everyone else who is waiting to hear back!
