News just to hand that people on StaffCv have been sent emails this week regarding Assessment days for QF long haul fixed term employment.

The email has been sent from Qantas not from Adecco or MAM.

Here is an extract from a contact of mine who got the email :

So movement is happening. Thought I would post to see if others have heard and how this will all fit in. Given I start with MAM in August, I don't believe this will affect me, but thought it would be of great interest to others.

This would be a great oppurtunity for a few months work with Qantas but unfortunately have to inform anyone applying that this would not lead to permanent work.

Reason?

Qantas need strike breakers during the upcoming industrial action (December time).

Let me tell you though that as a fixed term contract you are 100% entitled to join the union (www.faaa.net) and also refuse to work on strike days.

The only chance of you being made permanent is if the London base does not go ahead. If you support the strike there may be a chance of being made permanent.

If the London base goes ahead then once your contract expires Qantas will say see you later and hire people based in London.

If you want a few months experience then go for it. If you want a permanent role I would advise you to still apply but also support the union so the London base does not open.

As stated in my post, this is a contact of me who got this email. And I am contracted by MAM and therefore out of any thing to do with this.

But I guess for some people who want to gain experience then to take up this flying opportunity could see them having a test run and once the contract is up, then at least they have the experience under the belt to apply to other airlines.

Movement like this, shows QF is preparing for the strike breakers for sure.

I'd like to know where my email is from QF, giving me a headsup on recruitment like they promised when they damn well dropped me from the shortlist that I had only been on for 15 months NOT 18 like they tried to tell me!?!?!?!

I don't suppose if one was to register now that it would be too late?

I have a staffcv account but i was waiting to pay off my crdit card before paying the fee and becoming a full member. If only it had of been a week later!

wouldn't stress... I have been registered with staffcv for nearly two years...not one single interview, no qantas shortlisting and obviously now no email. My cv has been manually looked at 3 times!!!!!

I am cabin crew with full customer service and hospitality industry - so where have i gone wrong????

When did the email go out? Wonder how many people they are looking to recruit.

I received it last week, as well as two phone calls.

I can't make it though, as I'm moving to work for an Os Airline.

The email was sent to most people this week, and apparently with my mate he had not checked his email and so they rang him in regards to it.

Yes, I have a friend that also received the email.

He has declined the offer as he has just been accepted to Mam.

Whatever the reasons for the contracts it will still be an opportunity for lots of people to live their dream. Good luck to all who apply. :ok:

Yeh I received the e-mail this week with total surprise.
Where it said type of work wanted I filled out Casual and or contract.
I think thats what was stated on the staff cv application.
That was a month ago, then I updated it almost two weeks ago.

Interview for me is tomorrow, Just got back from MAM QF in MEL.
Tied little sausage tonight. :} :} :}

Two tickets in the employment lottery is better than none!

With the new emails being received..How long id the fixed term contract for 6 month 12 months ??? If anybody knows please let me know !! Just a stupid question !! As this would be a great sint to work with QF cabin crew long haul !! Would any of you support the stop work strikes !! Or would you be happy to be used as strike breakers and not have a chance of working full time !! I know afew friend on fixed term contracts and they will NOT work while the strike is on !! They are pre-pared to support the rest of the cabin crew !! My question would people ready to take this opportunity as cabin crewe be willing to STRIKE and stand as one!! Any feedback ! from future fixed term crew current mams etc!!!

A ten month fixed term long haul contract was offered to MAM casuals not long ago, i don't think many people took it with the knowledge that you wouldn't have a job at the end of the contract. I know of about three people in Perth who put in an expression of interest but never got one response, obviously it was all focused on the other bases and poor old Perth missed out, again. As said previously i guess it comes down to individual situations? Good luck and enjoy to anyone that takes the contract!!!!

UPDATE ON NEWSFLASH

News has arrived from the Assessment day that was held in Sydney for the Long Haul Fixed Term Flight Attendants Opportunities.

Candidates did a standard Qantas Assessment day that many of us would be used to. Then were told these fixed term contracts are for a period of 4 - 12 months depending on QF requirements. With NO offer of employment at the end, not even casual work. Each candidate would be welcome to apply to QF, Adecco or MAM at the end of the contract if work is available.

The training is to commence in October.

I guess we still need to wish those who wish to take this up, the best of luck with their flying time.

Let's hope if it's someone's long awaited dream to be in the sky, no matter how long for or the real reason behind why they are on a contract, you still can't detract the fact. THEY will live their dream to fly.

Has anyone who attended the assessment day heard back with the yes/no for an interview?

I think you'll find that the majority of the fixed term staff are not strikebreakers.

Nearly all of the fixed term staff are FAAA members and I for one will jump on anyone referring to fixed term staff as strikebreakers.

We all have own choices to make in relation to industrial action and its a little unfair to tar all those who were not fortunate enough to get permanent ongoing positions with the strikebreaker brush.

We've all been "officially" told that there may not be a permanent position available at the end of the contract so why would we work as strikebreakers.

Your first flying month is difficult enough, let alone snide or directed comments being made.

With the greatest of respect, perhaps we could all stop speculating on the mindset of the fixed term staff.

At least they are being honest and advising exactly what type of employment you will be offered.

Just wish they did that at there last lot of interviews...would have picked up my bag and left straight away with out a second thought. Instead of wasting QF's and my time for 15 months.

Ozskipper, just a thought...if these FA's are not going to be employed as strike breakers, then why would the contracts be getting shorter. 4 months is crazy...It would take that long to get settled in. :suspect:
