Leemo,

It exactly because big Australian airlines are staffed by many people with your attitude that they get as little of my money as possible. I guess I spend about US$25K of my own money each year on airfares so I am the sort of "premium" customer that BA/QF claim to be after, but too many QF/BA crew hide behind the "we're only here for your safety" line as an excuse for delivering crap service.

I'm not going to choose my airline on the basis of how good I think their cabin crew will be in the event of a crash. I'm going to exclude airlines that don't meet a certain safety threshold (i.e. have a significant number of crashes, e.g CI, KE, GA) and then pick from the remainder purely on the quality of the service.

Having said that, I have just come off a BA transatlantic where the service was unusually excellent, but that was in First with only 5 passengers and three crew... The only problem was that one of the other passengers was an infant who screamed more or less the whole way. I wish airlines would offer "infant-free" flights - I don't see why they couldn't do it on routes where they fly multiple times per day, but that's a whole other discussion.

Christep

Can't be bothered to justify that with a response. Will only say that the other carriers are welcome to you. More fool them if they service your every whim at the click of your fingers.

Not Happy Jan

nothappyjan,

I Have to agree with all of those positive CC members out there. I too was a F/A with Ansett and often felt like I couldn't take anymore of the constant getting up at 3-00am. Or doing those horrible back of the clocks, or missing out on functions when everyone else could attend!! But guess what, now that I don't have it anymore I would give my right arm to have it all back again.
As the rest of them have said get some exercise eat well and best of all on those o/n trips take as many pampering items as you can fit into your o/n bag and treat yourself!!
There is definitely NO job like it on the planet and once you start to really "fit in" you will probably wonder why you didn't do it years ago.
The main thing is to just relax , be yourself, and don't take any crap from any one. Just remember we were all NEW once and most of us felt the same way.

Good luck with it all and I hope things turn aroung for you VERY soon.

Christep...now please....Leemo does not have an attitude. As Cabin Crew it is drummed into you that Safety is primary reason we are on the plane. If safety wasn't important then they would not put us through months of training to learn it. Believe it or not we are all quite intelligent people, not just airheads that are there to look good or to be treated like servants.

There isnt a minute in the flight that CC dont think about safety. Its our primary job from the moment we get on the plane to the moment we get off..... its not just what you see. Before the flight we have to have a safety briefing, on the plane we have to check security, safety first aid.... throughout the flight we have to make sure everything is ok including safety of the flight deck(since Sept 11th)... and when you get off the plane we do it all over again.
WE have to be on our toes especially for the unexpected!!! Thats why safety does come first! You don't realise all the rules we have to obide to by the CAA.

Most passengers are really nice and therefore its not hard to be nice to them. We are talking about people that are treating us like dogs and speaking to us in a rude manner. WE (cabin crew) have the right to get the captain to off load passengers like this or ban then from flying with us!
All the money in the world does not give a rude arrogant person the right to talk to another human being in that manner! And thats when we have the right to put safety over smiles!
THATS WHAT LEEMO IS SAYING!!

Now please lets stop this as its not helping "nothappyinjan".

Its persistant people like yourself that make our jobs hard work. Just let the matter go. Keep enjoying your travelling and i hope to god you aren't one of these pain in the bum passengers, because if only you knew what happens behind the scenes when you upset cabin crew..... when they deliver your drink or food.... they arent smiling at you because they like you.... they are smiling because they know what they've put in it! Just bare this in mind next time you travel!

It is a sad fact of life that most UK, US and Aus cabin crew simply don't seem to understand what good service (as practised by CX, SQ etc) is about at all, as most of you are demonstrating here.

Safety is necessary, but not sufficient to get my business, and the business of everyone else who is making it very hard to get a seat on most CX/SQ routes these days. It is a sad reflection of this that while BA is still laying people off and cutting back, CX is growing as fast as it can recruit (good) people and buy new planes. It will be great to see CX flying across the Atlantic soon.

And just since you seem to have the wrong impression of what I am looking for (in business or first at least) I will point out that I have never been rude to cabin crew (even to those who have been very rude to me), or indeed "clicked my fingers at them". And I don't look down on cabin crew - I understand that it isn't easy trying to make lots of passengers feel that the crew is there just for them - but I do hope and expect that they will do everything reasonable to make my journey a pleasant one. That is what I am paying for. The very best cabin crew are the ones I don't have to ask for anything because they have anticipated my wishes. This happens most of the time on CX in the premium cabins; rarely on BA/QF/AA.

Flying as cabin crew is sometimes the best job in the world and sometimes the worst! Give it a reasonable go and maybe you will learn to love it as much as most of us.

Good luck

Christep...please get off this topic and forum.
UnhappyinJan asked for advice of how to stop feeling the way she does at work.
You are not cabin crew, you do not know how we feel or the way we deal with things to get us through a day.

Like i said, we paint you a picture and thats all you see.
I expect UnhappyinJan is all smiles at work, but she said she feels unhappy and cries at home.

All on-looking passengers like yourself see us as smiley happy people.

You have no right to presume we are not good cabin crew because of our advice. As i said before, my airline got airline of the year for 2003, so what you got to say about that?
If you knew me or saw me at work, i'd put any one of your SQ or CX to shame.

You really do come across as being all about money Christep! Its very sad listening to you going on about SQ and CX and they give you what you want without asking for it! Good for you!
So please get off this forum for cabin crew and go get on a plane and do us all a favour.... except to SQ and CX whom i feel very sorry for, for having you as a passenger.

As for unhappy in Jan, I really do hope you are ok. Keep us updated with what you decide.

Airhostie,

Before I go, could you tell me which airline it is that you fly for, just so I can avoid both of us having the disappointment of me flying on it?

And in fact I know a few of the CX girls socially as well, and they are just as happy out of work as at work. It's sad that you feel it all has to be an act - for many people it isn't.

At what point in any of my emails christep did i say i wasnt happy?

I was giving advice to nothappyjan how to cope with unpleasant passengers if she wasnt able to cope with them at work.
You are the one that started spouting on about QS and CX.

I love my job and im a very happy person both inside and outside work thank you very much.
I have met so many lovely people through my job and many of my passengers request me on there flight.
I am not pretending to be happy when im at work, hence my advice to nothappy to be herself!!!!

NOW....I think you have taken this far to far about what you expect and how much money you have. Good for you. If money and QS and CX makes you happy fine....
I am not going to tell you which airline i work for. Maybe if you really want to know, do abit of research and stop wasting your time on here making ignorant comments and judgements about people you don't know. GOODBYE CHRISTEP! YOU ARE OFFICIALLY OFF-LOADED FROM THIS TOPIC!!!

Christep, if the you find the subjet fascinating, you are free to start a topic; please don't hijack other people's. Little piece of advice, it works better when you actually talk about what you like in your choice airline as a pax instead of comparing and tarnishing a whole company with the same brush

hey sweetie hang in there.... i found flying with a small regional airline very tiring for the first few months.. always coming home with a head ache, but my body soon became use to it and once i worked out all the tech crews personalities i had a bloody ball for five years.. i only ended up leaving due to a move to the country... give yourself some time and i think you will find it ok in the end. hey what job do you get paid to go on overnighters and drink grog, and spend free time shopping in MEL etc etc??? if you still don't like it in 3-6 months pack it in honey and look else where. maybe a ground job??? CSO??? good luck
