Hmm, I tossed up whether to write that original post as I thought it might have created more angst than intended....
And let me make it quite clear, I'm certainly not having a go at anyone here at all.... Quite the contrary
Perhaps I did not frame my response terribly well to get my point across...
I appreciate what you both MNT & Flyblue are saying...
I wasn't suggesting that GFB was trying to hide a particular characteristic - in fact from other related posts it would seem that GFB is quite able to fight his own battles! 8)
What I am trying to say is regardless of what your nick is or what it refers to I don't see why it should be questioned (I appreciate now that it may have been simple curiousity).
However nor am I suggesting that debate shouldn't be entered into or that the ability to express your thoughts or concerns be suppressed either.
I guess that what I am driving at is that it would never be tolerated if a nick "BlackJewishPilot" was questioned why they had those identifying characteristics in their nickname - you'd be branded a racist - however when it comes to sexual orientation, it seems that its ok.
I'd like to clarify though that I'm certainly not a political or rights activist in any sense of the word for any particular cause (gay, straight, animal, plant or mineral).
I'm probably making this much worse for myself by responding, but I kinda felt I should clarify.
Anyway, I trust that no offence has been taken to my soap box response.....

As long as i enjoyed other threads diversions,ie:question was about hydropplaning and the thread continues about the effect of a bee hitting a train ..but coming from a "would you go out with a pilot thing" to talking about gays and racial issues..mhhh
Lets go back to the fun part ..please
To answer sweety:all depends if the cabin crew is blonde or not..

gayflyboy .....
I know this is off the topic, but so is your post - and it needs responding to...
Firstly, can I say that I am a Gay Male flying for Qantas - Longhaul ( so as you dont get any feelings of 'discrimination'
Well, dunno what you people think about wherever you come from, but in Australia .... it isnt. Yep, I am gay, yet I play football every weekend (shock - with straight people). My sexuality is a part of me, not a 'defining' part of me. What I do behind the bedroom door is irrelevant, but I dont 'define' myself as that .... neither do 'straight people' I am sure.... have you ever seen a nick name ' straightflyboy' ?
mate ... I crack 'gay jokes' , they are funny .... its all about laughing about ourselves.... have you had an objection to 'racist' jokes you have heard? I doubt it. Have you had an objection to ' women jokes' you have heard? I doubt it .... Irish jokes? I rest my point ... we all make fun of each other, it is part of life ..... deal with it
You give gay people a bad name mate.... we don't have to be 'activists' .... We can actually be just normal, fun-loving people like everyone else.
Get over your sexuality mate Try and just be a human .... Gay doesnt preclude you from that

Sexuality is pretty defining for most of us, gay, straight or bisexual.

I had to stand at the bar listening to my "friends" cracking anti-gay jokes, stereotypical b.s.

Slightly O/T... (well, ok, mostly O/T)
Flyblue-
...those uniforms are cool. Good to see they're giving the gals a choice - same as the F/A's. You wouldn't have a clearer picture would you...? 'm just interested to see the one on the right. It's professional -looking, without being too "mannish" for those who'd rather not have the traditional uniform. One on the left is okay, looks a bit "Star Trek"-ish though... maybe in a few years eh..?
I've always been interested to know how airlines address the issue of uniform for female pilots... once read of a QF F/O who was offered (given?) a policewoman-type hat & a bow, and flatly refused in favor of the "man" type tie & hat. Guess that's a question for a whole nother thread... better get to the topic.... (sorry, Flyblue... )
I guess if I met a pilot who was nice enough, I might. Of course the uniform wouldn't matter, but if I saw one in a bar or somehwere in uniform, it'd probably make a good conversation starter. I'm always interested in hearing good flying stories....
Ultimately though, if the guy's a jerk.... dump him.....

SkySista,
sorry but I don't have a better one right now. Will see if I can get one. Actually the styles shown (by Christian Lacroix) have somethimg in common with the current ones. Now the gals have a similar longish one (err, it's the one I prefer, especially on the new design), another Chanel style jacket( the one you like) and a "regular" jacket similar to the men's one. But the new ones are definitely better.
Since you mentioned it, I also noticed that some pilots wear the women's silk scarf and women's shirt, while others go for the men's style shirt and tie. Never see them wear the hat though.

Nice one MNT - I didn't think you would (take offence), but sometimes tone is a bit hard to pick up on these kinds of discussion boards, so I wanted to clarify I was not being all hysterical about it or beating the "everyone get on my bus and listen to me" drum!

I didn't think there would be a large number of CC that would go out with a pilot, seeing's how they know first hand that pilots are the most unreliable, sleezy scumbags on the planet! Or maybe that's just the one's that fly for my company!!

Hey, talk about generalizing!
Your posts are usually not so harsh! Have you had any bad experience lately? Why are so categorical here? I'm sure you've worked for other companies...

Yes, I dated a pilot for three and a half years! Fabulous person, and though we're separated (and on other sides of the country!) we're still great friends. mwah! Don't it just make you want to go out and break something

Well, there's the corporate, military, commercial, private - not to mention marine - pilot to choose from. Were you referring to any one category in particular when you started the thread Jinkster?

Thread divergence, again.
After some thought, I think I am going to have to agree with Q-Tee. I just dont think its relevant and I think it draws quite a bit of suspicion from others as to your motives Gayflyboy. Certainly one or two other readers I know thought the same. No ones saying you have to hide it, just that you dont have to shout about it either, in the same way you wouldnt if you were another sexuality. You make all valid points in your previous posts, but I am going to have to disagree with you.

I could be persuaded!!!!!
It's not the uniform, nor the job - it's whether he could live up to my standards and control me!!!!!!!
...............plus, he would have to treat me like a lady!
..........and make a cup of tea first thing in the morning - that's if we're not up in the air

Whats that about english and tea???
In training in england my roomate was kind to offer me tea everyday before the home studying ritual..but it was in the winter time..which is perfectly fine..but the summer came a long and he kept asking me if i wanted tea in the middle of the summer
What about if i bring you a good old orange juice with croissants in the morning BYLADY
Would that be good?
