Once again because it was awhile ago:

Girls bring 1 or 2 pairs of black trousers for training college, and black FLAT shoes. Like plain black flats, normal ones. They don't have to be fancy but avoid "ballet style" ones with the really thin soles- you want to have a little bit of grip on your shoes when you're in the simulator etc.

Once you've uploaded your medicals you wait for approval. This will usually come o nthe portal and/or an email with instructions on what to do next. It will go step by step, no need to start worrying about tickets yet. Just keep checking in the portal (if you have it) if you don't then they will send you instructions. They say a few days but it can be up to a week if they are busy so don't get stress out! :)

tattoos

hello there,

i am hoping for some insight from emirates crews...

i was successful through until the final stage of the ad. preface: i'm not suggesting i couldn't have done things better and could never presume to know what exactly the recruiters are looking for.

however, given that i have crew experience, speak two languages, have lived abroad in a muslim country and am friendly, outgoing and not obnoxious (though i may be sounding like it now...) i thought i had a good fighting chance. i went in dressed the part, made a good effort without being in anyone's face, smiled, etc.

of course i was gutted at the final rejection. i hoped to get a final interview (most people did get that opportunity). after returning home and mulling things over, something clicked.

at the end, we were asked if we had any visible markings on our bodies. i said that no, nothing that could be seen in uniform. she said they needed to know of ANYTHING, ANYWHERE on the body, i answered honestly -- tattoos on torso.

i am aware that obvious or bandaged tattoos are a no-no... so when she said to me 'oh so they are quite big', that made me go 'hmm' in retrospect.

are emirates respecting islamic tradition here -- tattoos are entirely forbidden? that is reasonable, so i just would like to know. they are very well out-of-sight. however, i am not one to lie, and they would have been noticed in a medical, and during ditching training.

again, i am all for trying again next time, if my life allows it in 6 months. but, if it did come down to the non-visible tattoos, then that is another story. and i don't like to waste people's time. removal is a consideration however $$$, so lots to think about!

any thoughts, insights on this? thanks in advance :)

Good News about Open Day & waiting

Hey Everyone,
I called the Dubai Office this morning for Emirates & spoke with the HR. I spoke with the HR recruitment coordinator for cabin crew and he said no worries you can still go for an open day even if you just went to an open day. You don't need to wait 6 months. Only if you attend an assessment day, you cannot go for the open day within 6 months.

Thanks;)

wannabecc 30th May 2011 17:24

Mari and ThatRedHatGirl, I don't post here much, but read these forums from time to time. I hope you understand where I was coming with the whole Open Day thing! However had that misconception not taken place on the day I went there, who knows I might have been with EK today ;)

You guys are doing a great job helping those who have their dreams fulfilled with the great tips you two give out. :ok:

wannabecc 30th May 2011 17:25

Torontofly, I wish you all the best! I'll be tracking these forums, and hope to see in that EK uniform soon!

Thank You!

tattoo on torso

I doubt it was a problem. I know many girls and boys with tattoos, even with big tattoos.

If your tattoo is not visible in uniform, it should NOT be a problem.

Time is Running Out

Well, i'm in the same dilemma but i guess you should wait for an invite if it's an AD. You don't wanna go and get turned away do you?

You could also give the HR a call and ask them.

Hr no

Torontofly, could you inbox me hr no aswell, I applied online several time and I never get a reply.im gonna try Auckland open and i haven't got invited yet.

Mari 31st May 2011 07:14

Why do you care?! You don't need an invite for an OD.

Why do you care what other people think about your chances in Auckland? You are going anyways, aren't you?

If you wanna know my opinion: your chances are pretty slim, so best of luck!

what if the scar can be hidden using a concealer, should one still declare it?I have one old car that resulted from an operation at the back of my hand but using a concealer,it cannot be easily noticed.Any suggestions?:confused::confused:

Have you contacted the HR yet or what have you decided to do?

imani 31st May 2011 13:22

Hi. Hope you are good. I was also wondering the same thing. I have a port wine stain on my lip and my forehead. it's pink and gets a hot pink color at times especially when it's hot :\but I was thinking that since concealer will hide it that I will not declare. On top of it all I have seven tattoos which I wont declare either since they are very well hidden;two on my back, thigh, shoulder, belly button, lower back and ribcage. I have worked in my office for the last two years and no colleague of mine knows I have tattoos but they do know about the birthmark because i don't always wear make up.A friend of mine who has been cabin crew for EK for the last 4years advised me not to declare either. Anyone who thinks otherwise kindly advice,I'd really appreciate....thanks:)

Visible scars

akoti19
I would say to answer the question how it's ask : Do you have any visible scar [read: without concealer]. But if you have concealer at the AD and she asks, show it to her and she will tell if it needs to be declare. I remember a girl had a scar barely visible on her forehead and she asks and the recruiter said it was ok.

Daisy Akinyi 31st May 2011 17:14

Its jus unfortunate that i cant get the contacts for HR. I sent torontofly a pm and he hasnt gotten back to me yet. I dont know what to do...i was jus trying my luck last month thinking that it would take a while before they invite me but in less than a week i got an invite...if i dont manage getting the contacts, i will go for the AD and declare my concerns before the whole session starts...i need to keep safe.

HiflierEK 31st May 2011 17:37

For you guys with tattoos, in my opinion its best to be honest, they WILL see them once you get to Dubai in the medical and imagine the embarassment of getting sent home. I have 2 tattoos one rather large and i too was not sure wether to admit it but i was honest and here i am in Dubai. For males its not so much of a problem as you wear a white t-shirt under uniform, for females its probably more of an issue, the shirts are pretty see through and although you have jackets and service waist coats, there will be times when the pursers want the crew to board with jackets off and thats when they will be seen !

Tina1 31st May 2011 17:49

Hi all,
Torontofly
We are patiently waiting for your help with those HR numbers. Most of us just want to inquire about a few issues, right? Please PM us (those who have requested)

hello

hello friends.

Concerning the Open Day, well sincerely I do not think you need an invite to attend it. During the Open Day they just show you how life is in Dubai and explains a bit about cabin crew job. Of course they will collect your CV and photos and ask you few questions, basic questions like what are you doing at the moment etc...

As for AD, well usually they will phone you or send you an e-mail to inform you when and at what time to come. AD you cannot go like that, I mean without being asked to.

Tattoos - well in my opinion I do think that it is better to be sincere because they might notice it when you go to Dubai. It wont be good for your image if you lie. :ugh:

Well am not 100% sure in whatever am saying as am not cabin crew or HR coordinator for Emirates.

I am waiting for the Golden Call... :) :ugh:

well seven tattoos,,,,that is alot:eek:!don't admit all of them you might scare them....just kidding!but you were wise to put in places where they are not visible with uniform, for the shoulder,I suggest you declare although its not visible.
I do have tattoos but one is visible which am already removing(will not declare I have it-on my arm near my wrist) and the other on my shoulder, will declare that one only!good luck!;)

HR Numbers

Hi - to the people who have been PMing me for HR numbers + messaging here,
I am sorry but I cannot disclose the HR number, the only reason I have the HR number is because from last year I went for the Final Interview so I had the HR numbers from the recruiters
I don't think its possible for me to share the number on PPrune or anywhere. You can try asking on this forum for people who have received their approval, or you can always e-mail the HR recruitment office, they do reply to emails.

I am sorry, and hope you understand my situation too, I just don't want my name involved in it. Thanks:ok:

I guess you guys should just google the company's contacts details and call the main number and ask for the department you need.

Thats what i did and it worked for me.

Good Luck!!

hmm. mixed verdict :) thank you mari and hiflierEK.

that was my concern, even though they are not visible, you would see them through a sheer-ish shirt. regardless, glad i was honest about them!!

elrehab 1st June 2011 06:58

hey guys , can i ask a question,

can you start training with one airline and if through the process you discover a job offer with another airline. Can you stop training and start with the other airline...anyone had this happen to them??

i agree with torontofly, its not right to give out numbers. its not ethical. so stop bothering torontofly with it.

ANYONE can turn up for an OPEN DAY, gosh it seems here like people keep asking the same question over and over. I repeatt, you dont need an invite to open day. if your online application says 'UNDER REVIEW', you could get an open day reminder like i did, but just as a courtesy reminder, but i repeat ANYONE CAN TURN UP TO AN OPEN DAY.

You need an Invite for Assessment Day, if you turn up without an invite you'll end up looking silly. message To some people :You dont make the rules so dont think you'll get special privaleges if you turn up to an assessment day uninvited. Also Turning up to a place other than in your own country for an open day wont get you special privaleges. So save your money.

If your online application says 'UNDER REVIEW', you should turn up to an open day with the documents they suggested you bring, ; resume and passport fotos etc and see whether you pass the test in real life. Thats what 'UNDER REVIEW' means.

pearl23 1st June 2011 07:31

hi !!!;)

i have question, which is better to attend, the OD or AD?????

tnx! looking forward for your answers:ok:

elrehab 1st June 2011 07:43

pearl 23. only attend Open days. Assessment days are invite only.

reagrding tattoos, i did see a picture of where emirates allows tattoos. i think back, upper thighs, stomach area can have tattoos, your arms need to be free from tattoos.

Daisy Akinyi 1st June 2011 08:48

Thanx so much for your help. I managed to enquire yesterday and they told me twas just right timing, a day doesnt make much difference. Am therefore attending the AD. I know you will make it for the August AD since they confirmed to me that theres another AD then. Cheers dear!

So much for turning up ON TIME for the OPEN DAY :ugh:

So then what happens next, on the Open Days provided you are there by 9:00AM SHARP, ? (I know they show you a video of Dubai, Emirates etc, take your resume etc)

Also how many Emirates destinations are now actual layovers of more than 24 hours? Most flights in the region are turnarounds, most European flights are a 24 hour layover, including the flights to the Americas I believe. I know Toronto is 48 hours, except the Fri flight which is 72 hours. The Aussie/New Zealand trips Down Under are 8-9 day trips with I believe 24 hours between sectors, maybe a longer times once back in Australia. So with all this, especially the American routes with 24 hours rest, and flights over 12-15 hours, how are current FA's taking the stress. I know when I chatted with the FAs on the JFK sectors they said the layover was too short. Would like to get a true perspective of the layover/turnarounds hours at various destinations?

I guess if you joined EK to see the world, you probably have to cram in your destination in the 24 hours you have at the layover, which might leave some quite exhausted :*. This might explain some of the red cross marks here Emirates Airline Customer Reviews | SKYTRAX :ooh:
