My DOJ is May 30th, what about you guys? Looking forward to see you in Dubai and working together on board! ;)

ytayan 10th May 2008 22:41

DOJ May 23 2008

:ok: May 23 here :D

flygirl28 11th May 2008 11:53

Middle mate - the EK contract is a single contract only, you wouldnt be able to take your 3 1/2 year old son with you.
Even if emirates allowed it, you as a woman are not allowed to sponsor you own children (sponsor=provide them with residency) this can only be done by your husband who has to be employed in dubai and earn a certain amount...he can then sponsor his family.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask.

finally got approved!

hey! just dropping a few lines to share that I finally got the approval of my application and they asked me to resign my present job!!! :) My god...I think it was the longest wait ever for a final approval, considering that I had emailed all documents and medicals almost 3 months ago! No Kidding!

So, with final approval on hand finally resigned and right now doing my lieu of notice of one month. The planned doj was may 16th, they mentioned on the final approval that if I could not join by then the next course would take place on June 20th.

As soon as I get my resignation letter, I will scan it and send it over to Emirates so I can get confirmation of my new doj, that I guess will be somewhere between June 10th and 20th :ok:

I really cant wait to join and see Dubai, and begin the training! :D

Jo-b 12th May 2008 08:07

Assessment Day

Hey guys! I had an assessment day last saturday in Sofia , but unfortunately I didn't made it. Although the unsuccessful results I would like to share with you the experience I had during my assessment.
We started at 9 am and we were approximately 40 participants. The recruiters - Christie and Lusie were from England and they were very nice and friendly... Christie has started with short presentation about the life and conditions of work in EK. After this we were given to watch few movies about the company. I was very tired, because I couldn't sleep before the assessment day. I traveled almost whole night as well... Anyhow, I wasn't that fresh and I'm absolutely sure the recruiters saw it :(
I think that was the turning point - I didn't make good first impression.
After the movies we were pleased to fill some form with additional information about us and then we had break for 15 min.
When we back into the room we were divided in 2 groups. Firstly we had to reach the well known poster on the wall and we were asked few questions about our current and previous jobs. When we done with this, Christiie and Lusie gave us task to introduce the favourite food, animal and holiday of the person on our right side. We had 20 seconds to do it. Most of the people were talking for about 1 minute and they gave additional information, who wasn't included in the task. I was very sharp with the time and the task we were given, because I thought they like when you follow the tasks/orders strictly.
When we finished with the task, we were given a subject for group discussion. Our subject was to organize a party and invite 10 famous people. Some people of my group were very aggressive, but others absolutely passive. I tried to be in the middle just making complements to the oppinions of my "colleagues" and carefuly listening every point of view.
Politely I gave some ideas, triyng to don't interrupt my colleagues, but unfortunately I didn't get it thorugh the next stage.
All the people who were talking too much, and forget about the time requirement in our previous task, have made it to the next stage. Some of them were with very bad english :) Still I can't understand it, but I don't regret for nothing - I'll try again in december...definitely. I've learned some important lessons and I'll use them in my next experience with EK.
My advice to you guys is to rest well before every interview. Don't expect too much of your assessments or interviews - just be positive and smiley...enough. I think the most important is the first impression . Be polite with the others, chat with them, Try to be calm and confident in your answers and attitude- they watch you all the time.
Finally I would like to say to all of you friends: Don't give up, even though the failures sometimes. Try to use your mistakes to improve yourself in a possitive way, because our mistakes are our best teachers.
Hope I was helpful for You. I would like to say one big "Thank you" to all of you, for the support and the info you gave me.
I wish you best of luck and.....never never give up!!!!

sa cabin crew

:(to EK ladies and gents can you tell me if you from south afica do you stand a chance of ever making it to EK or is it just a waste of time?

as dubai has such strickt rules on visas aspecailly when you from S.A. is there hope for me?

well done to everybody that made it in to EK I know it wasn't easy:D

bkkfly 14th May 2008 09:34

sa cabi crew

The lady who recruited me, Melinda was a South African who spoke Afrikaner so SA people do get through. Also, I have seen black African flight attendents working on board Emirates. Hope that helps.

Winch-control 14th May 2008 12:08

Anyone going for any interview for any position should google...the 50 most difficult questions for an hr interview. You will find all the answers to all the questions you are going to be asked! After all this is what the HR staff at the airline you are applying to do! You can then give the perferct answers (they have the same answers!) Hope this helps...

holagirl 14th May 2008 14:10

go for it

I think there are a lot of South African cabin crews at EK.
My recruitment lady was also from South Africa and she was great.
You should definitely go for it.

By the way, anyone joining on June 27? I am still waiting for my final approval but I would love to talk to people joining on the same date!

applefigher 14th May 2008 15:00

Joining on the 13 of June!!!

Hello everybody...

Leaving london on the 13th of June... anyone else going from here that day?

See you all soon!

New Joiner - and confused!!!

Hey everyone!!

It's my first time on this website so hello!! After much deliberation from Emirates, I finally received my joining date (6th June) which of course is fantastic - however, I am absolutely petrified of making the decision to leave the UK and live in Dubai... :bored: I have to decide by today as I need to resign from my job and get ready to leave in 3 weeks.... Is anyone else joining on this date?

I have a good job in London and am an extremely sociable person (going out with pals is my life, lol). Please can someone tell me what REAL life is like when working for Emirates? Do people go out and party?! I understand the hours are long and it's a tiring / difficult job to do, but I have never done anything like this before so need some serious advice!!

Thank you so much and hopefully (judging by your reponses), I will see some of you on the 6th June!

Nicole
