Hi everyone! This is my first message on PPrune, just sent off my medicals but haven't had the final approval yet. As it stands, my DOJ is 30th May. I wanted to have a chat to people joining on or around that date so we could get to know each other before we left, I know there are plenty of you joining around then!

DOJ may 16

hi, i am also joining on may 16th, the only thing that keeps me concerned is the fact that so far no final approval has been received, so I keep waiting. They already moved my DOJ once, from april 11th to may 16th because the final approval was not received. In addition, I requested one month lieu of notice. So I keep waiting to see if things work out. I have a job in Costa Rica that I like, but the adventure with EK is tempting enough for me to give it a try.... Good Luck and if things go fine we may meet on May 16th or later in the course of training!

medicals

Is everyone else paying a fortune to get medicals done?
I live in Canada where family doctors are free and I even have insurance.
My family doctor is charging me 200 CDN dollars(almost equivalent with US dollars now) just to fill out the forms and she was telling me she wouldn't even look at the forms because it is too long and it would waste too much of her time even to read it unless i pay her 200 dollars.
And then I went for my eye exam and paid 90 dollars plus i had to buy my own vaccines and bring them to my family doctor which cost me another 100 dollars.
Thank God the dentist was covered. So I only paid 10% of the total which was like around 100 dollars again including my new fillings. I could have paid up to 1000 dollars without my insurance.
Then again I went to this hearing aid clinic to get just a small table filled out and paid 50 dollars again! it's literally like one line they had to fill out and they charged me 50 dollars for that! and it's not even like i have problems with hearing.
i am almost done with my medicals and hopefully that is it with me paying a fortune. it really is costing me a way more than i thought!

if you do your medicals clearly and you send it to ek appartement:)

they can reject any one or no :confused::confused:

because they coast from 100 dollars to 1000 dollars depend about person and detail forms :O

good luck to every one :ok:

LukeyLuke: Thanx for the story about the EK Standard video, thought we had all stopped talking about that now and instead talking about the 14 weeks bonus which was announced today :) (anyhow that girl in the video did a lousy job!)

For everyone else, Congrats on everyone who has made it though, EK is definitly stepping up the recruitment with so many of you getting in. See You in Dubai soon! :D

leemarlon 30th Apr 2008 22:33

The only reason they could reject the medicals is because your medical is not in accordance with the EK's medical requirement. A few people had been rejected due to non-fulfilment on the medical requirements...i.e. Hepatitis A & B, HIV positive, low haemoglobin, bad hearing, infectious diseases...etc. So the golden call doesn't mean anything yet far until your medical is approved and clearance check is done (final approval).

EK is extremely strict with the cabin crew health profile, obviously they don't want sick people on board serving passengers.

Regards to all.

Hey there,

I don't know if this will make you feel any better but my FI was 05th Jan and I got my final approval yesterday, after many e-mails and phone calls. Just relax, that's the way they are, they apparently have all the time in the world...

good luck to all of you!:ok:

Leito 1st May 2008 18:45

they apparently have all the time in the world...

Not really, they have to bring nearly 100 new crew a week, so that's a lot of work, if they wouldn't be distracted by the countless ammount of phone calls or e-mails that you guys make, they would deal with everything much quicker. :ugh:

Jo-b 2nd May 2008 06:29

WELL, if they would reply on a simple email by two words, we definitly wouldn't be calling them. Besides, they could assign new recruiters if the present ones cannot handle all this amount of candidates! I'm not the one to tell them what to do, it's just what the logic says.. I mean a fast growing company would need the appropriate management to cope with this growth.. Anywayz, I'm just saying that the job could be done better and thank you..

Ena85 3rd May 2008 04:38

J-ob, I totally agree with you- I mean, people put their jobs and lives away for this and all they want in return is some feedback during the process.
I understand that the job for them is huge but it's just as huge to any person who decides to go for it;)
At the end of it all, we just all want to avoid the headfu*k (excuse my language but it kinda sums it up heh):O

JustinG 3rd May 2008 05:48

Just out of curiosity, what kind of infectious diseases will disqualify you from being hired at Emirates? I know HIV is definately one of them.

easynick 3rd May 2008 12:35

infectious desieses

I'm pretty sure that the medical forms stipulate that you must be free from any infectious desiese

JustinG 3rd May 2008 16:20

I don't have a medical form b/c I haven't yet applied so I don't know what it entails. I know influenza is an infectious disease, and I usually get the flu once a year, mostly in the winter time, does that automatically disqualify me then?
