Thank you very much for your reply. Maybe there is some hope at the end of the tunnel. I will work extremely hard to get where I want to be. Thank you for your opinion on the subject.

WishesToFly, you're doing a lot of "extra" work to be come Cabin Crew when the experience working in a Hotel would suffice, apply now!
Your putting far too much thought into references and work history.

I agree, to work as cabin crew you just need two years customer contact job experience which enables you to give answers to show your customer service ability in your interview.
For your criminal record check you need to be able to account for your last 5 years and this can be done with employment records or personal references. What they are checking for is that you have no unaccountable gaps in your history, you would not be penalised for working for a company that went bust, you might just need personal references for that period instead.
Hope that helps, at 26 years old I feel you must have enough experience, just go for it.

Please help :)
Hi!
I'm after some tips, tricks and what not to help me get on my way to becoming a flight attendant. I have no prior experience in the airline industry, but am so keen to get my foot in the door and achieve my goal.
I've done a lot of research and found out what is expected from applicants in regards to appearance, height, RSA etc. What I would love to know is what makes a candidate stand out when it comes to interviews and such?
I am prepared to start at rock bottom and work my way to where I want to be, but I seem to be stuck as to what to do and how to get there.
I was also wondering if there would be any advantage in doing the Certificate II in Aviation (Flight Operations) ?
Again I would love nothing more than to do this, I'm prepared to work very hard to succeed, but some pointers about where to start and what to do would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

The most important part of any interview with an airline is showing that you care passionately about giving great customer service. The most important thing you need to get across in your interview is that you LOVE working in a customer orientated industry and you strive at all times to make your customers happy.
The majority of the interview is designed to find if you understand what good customer service is, how you work in a team ie. if you have been supportive to colleagues etc., if you have the ability to learn from feedback you have received in the past and that you understand what the job entails.
You need to go to your interview armed with examples of when and how you gave exceptional customer service and when you have worked in a team to make something happen for your customers.
That is the best advice I can give you. Just relax and let your personality shine through. If you have thought through all of the above before you get there, you will feel more relaxed and your answers to any questions will just come naturally.
Remember that most large companies nowadays ask you to give examples of how you worked in your previous employment, in different situations and they use your answers to work out if you understand what good customer service is etc. So it is important to have really good examples of great customer service, when you went above and beyond what would be thought of as normal.
Good luck.

Xpert,
I don't doubt that safety may have been an important part of your interview and of course ALL airlines want to operate in the safest of ways and have processes in place to achieve that but having worked in Recruitment and Selection for my own airline, that is not something that is talked about in our interviews but of course your own airline may be different.
In fact if a safety related example is given by a candidate as an example of working in a team, we always listen to the example politely but then ask for a non safety related example. The reason being is that working in a team in, for example, a medical incident is very role led and this is something that is taught. What an airline is looking for in the interview is someone that can interact with customers and colleagues and work using their own initiative and if you can do this, it will be a given that you will be able to cope with all the safety related aspects of an airline.
I am sure however it would not hurt to mention that you are aware of how important safety is if you wanted to but if I was giving advise I would suggest that saying looking after the customer and giving good customer service was the most important thing to an airline, if you were asked.
Safety is undoubtedly a very important part of our job but what will get you the job is showing in your interview that you are totally passionate about customer service!

Hi all,
Long story short my girlfriend is interested in a career in Cabin Crew. Now Im all for this as I currently work in aviation myself. However, just trying to find out what the working conditions are like now?
I know she has applied for Jet2, Easyjet and Monarch (needs a EGGP or EGCC base). My sister used to work for Ryanair a few years back and her T&C's were border line horrendous so I've advised her against there.
What are Jet2, EZY & MON like to work for? Is there ample chance of promotion in the Cabin Crew world? Her qualifications aren't fantastic, but shes currently a Beauty Therapist. Just how difficult is it to get a job?
Thanks

Just wondering if being able to sign using Auslan (Australian Sign Language) is of any help when applying for Australian Airlines? Just wondering if any one knows if this has been successful or useful when applying for Flight Attendant positions?

Kahlanne,
In a group interview you are usually given a scenario to talk about and solve between you all.
Airlines are looking for people who contribute to the discussion but who are considerate towards the views of others in the group. The actual decisions the group make are not important, it is the way you interact as a team and how you personally treat others in your group and your attitude towards the people featured in the scenario too.
Hope that helps.

What Airlines have Open Days?
I wanted to apply to other Airlines apart from EMIRATES, ETIHAD or QATAR, but in their websites I do not see Open Days, so I think you would have to travel to their country to do an interview with them???
This is the case of Saudi Arabian Airlines, Gulf Air, Oman Air, Royal Jordanian, Middle East Airlines, Qantas, Cathay, Fly Dubai...

If you meet the criteria just apply and then wait and see what response you get. You only have to find out who is recruiting not all companies have open days and you won't know about the assessment day details until they invite you. As you live in Spain you will certainly have to travel for some of them. Cathay I am certain you have to be Asian. Qantas used to interview for the London base in the U.K, when Gulf Air are recruiting they have had AD's in Spain, Fly Dubai certainly have AD's in Dubai but this forum has had posts about people going to them in Europe. My advise to you is just to find out who is recruiting, check you are eligible, then apply. I know you have previously written on here about the poor wages in the M.E but just remember to consider the whole package. We get a tax free salary, accommodation, all utilities paid, uniform dry cleaning and transport to and from work. Fly Dubai has a higher basic than Etihad but your overheads living in Dubai will be high. At least with the M.E companies they relocate you and from arriving at the airport you are not on your own and you're looked after. If it is your first time to live in the M.E you may need that support. Have you tried Iberia, Spanair or Vueling for local interveiws. It's a pity you couldn't get down to Seville don't Ryanair still have cheap flights down there???

EK OD in BCN 4 June
Hi MissUAE -
As per other postings, all those airlines have OD's in many European locations. For one, I know EK has an OD this Saturday, 4 June in BCN.
Best wishes!
