Quick question...

On aviationjobsearch.com there's a BA-add for cabin crew LGW and LHR. When you look at BA's own website there's no word of LHR... I'm kind of interested in BA LHR.

Im working for emirates and wanted to move over to BA, by the looks of the threads on here, crew working for BA seem pretty happy with the company?? I know there are temp WW positions going but its weird to think why they need to look outside for these positions when they have so many internal crew wanting to transfer over?? doesn't this annoy u guys or do u have to go through that process to get permanent WW?
If someone wanted to fly with BA would u suggest going in as EF, is this a better way in u think? do EF and SH still do some good layovers?
and what is it like on board? is it a good atmosphere?
Thanks in advance for ur advice

You'll also not pay "normal" taxes on your income, actually, we pay very little tax compared to the "outside" world.
How does the tax system work? Sorry but this is all new to me and not been able to find out so far! Thanks

Welshboy,

I wouldnt worry too much about that. I am sure you will find others on your course in similar predicaments.

Uniform stores is not far from Cranebank, its literally beside Hatton Cross Tube station actually so you should be able to squeeze a visit in no problem before you are expected to attend training in uniform.

missholly, there is a waiting list from other bases within BA to go to LHR WW, however the hundreds of temps coming on line will help keep the levels of experience consistent in other bases such as LGW and over 200 cabin crew are moving up the road this summer from LGW. So transfers are being achieved.
With regards to your interest in leaving EK for BA all I can say is that people come to BA from Dubai, I have met a few.. How many cabin crew coming from BA EF, WW or Gatwick have you flown with in EK? (Just asking).
EF is a nice fleet with many, many nitestops and layovers all over Europe, as many business travellers need early departures and arrivals to and from LHR.

I know a couple of people who used to work for BA and loved it, thats why im only interested in BA, as it seems to be the best.
Don't get me wrong i have had an amazing time with Emirates + have really enjoyed my time here but i really miss the UK and want to move back.
I know there r positions atm with WW but i know permanent positions arn't guaranteed after the 11months, that's why i wanted advice as if i am interested in a long term career with BA would starting from EF and working my way up be a better and safer way in?
Thanks for ur advice

As an ex temp who got kept on and went to LGW, I can tell you one thing. At this stage noone knows what will happen with the temps. As STS said today in his weekly chat, nothing can be ruled. I find it difficult that you ll be kept on WW permanently but there is always the chance you ll get LHR EF. But of course the risk of not being kept on is always there. Getting a temp contract is always risky business.

temp

Just a word of advice to anyone thinking to apply for WW temps. Its NOT a shortcut way to get onto permanent WW. You will have no ground to appeal if you are not given another contract after your contract expires as its made clear its a TEMPORARY contract. However, there is always a chance you could be offered a permanent contract at LGW or even LHR EF if operations require.

For god sake, could we leave this discussion regarding LHR WW?

This is one of subjects discussed preferably amongst LHR EF and LGW SF crew about LHR WW not being kept on. I myself have experienced some very rudeness, which is very sad, amongst LHR EF crew towards LHR WW (temps) at the Compass Centre. Jealousity is what it is. Also, crew who went straight into LGW WW and were transfered to LHR WW, shouldn't say anything at all.

The procedure is generally to transfer from LHR EF to WW. We all know this. I have done this myself. But, I don't mind having crew coming straight into WW. It's a very nice change with enthusiastic people onboard!

Hey

Hey Welshboy. Will be with you in your training on 2nd June. How exciting!
Have done my uniform fitting but dont actually pick it up until the end of our training so wouldnt worry too much. I'm guessing that if theyve booked you in on the 3rd knowing that its a day after your training starts its not unusual!?? Doesnt take very long either.

Temporary contracts!

Hi all,
You know what? I have been offered an 11 month Contract at LHR and am excited as hell about starting. At interview we were given no illusions that this would be a permanent position, nor that we wouldnt be confronted with some difficulties with other staff and their opinions of us! I cant wait to see the world, and take this opportunity for what it is in the next 11 months. And as for Customer Service?? I've worked across the world on 5* Cruise Ships in a customer service role, so i take with a pinch of salt the comments about the new recruits not having any Customer Service skills. I guess its just up to us to prove you all wrong over the next, short, 11 months!

IMHO if you worked on a cruise ship you can work anywhere alse, customer service training is great when you are at sea on a cruise ship, you will be fine with BA, so congrats on your new job and good luck! Hopefully your contract will be extended, unlikely it will be WW, but who knows, anyway.. good luck and welcome onboard

You will not be treated any differently by the staff all new comers at this time and for the last 18 months have been 11 months contracts (in most areas of the airline). Only a small number of staff have not been offered a full time contract after the 11 months. It also enables BA in the veent of something bad happening to shed a couple of hundred staff. Good luck we are looking forward to seeing you at Cranebank in the mean time read as much as you can about BA and take time to go on all other airline websites to get a full picture of what we are up against and what we do well. The more prep you do the easy you will find the course.

Hi There

Is anyone starting thier training on July 14th?
I'm with the LGW fleet.

I'm quite nervous about it. But i'm also excited too.

When it says smart casual for what to wear.. Does that mean wear trainers and jeans? Is the training physical in the first couple of weeks?

Is anyone else on the same training as me?

Sophie

Parking?

Hi Probably won't get a reply but I have an interview at 8.30 tomorrow and I am driving down. Is the best place to park at Hatton Cross and get the freebie bus or be brave and try at Cranebank.

Thanks

OG

Parking

Personally I would just park at Cranebank. There should be plenty of space at that time of the morning. Much easier than parking at Hatton Cross.

Good luck with your interview

There is sufficient parking at Cranebank. The free multi-storey is there, and is a couple of minutes walk to your interview. Just take an umbrella in case of inclement weather, which for you maybe won't apply, but may be so for others reading this forum, depending on when their interview is. The couple of minutes walk is wonderfully refreshing, as your journey will have been stressful. Good Luck.
