""And short-haul, you'll be just doing turn-arounds on the 737/320 within Europe, but you'll get a permanent contract, eventually?""

Hi. Theres loads of info here on this thread but.... BA Eurofleet fly 767-300, 757 and A319/20/21 and there are PLENTY of nightstops. The bidding system is a godsend and you can pretty much choose days off and what type of work you do. There is also overtime so the scope to earn over £2K a month if you like.

For the first time in years it is recognised that EF is as desirable as WW at Heathrow and (although there are benefits to both fleets) the transfer list to EF from WW is longer than from EF to WW.

Give it a go, its the best job and fleet in flying! I have only worked 1 whole weekend and two seperate Sundays in 3 years! What other fleet/airline can offer that!!!

Funny you should say that, Speedmarque. Historically, EF has been desirable, with plenty of WW crew wanting to transfer to EF - people just assume it's the other way round. A lot of the more senior crew want to transfer to EF after many years of WW, it's a good way to get back to a relatively normal life. Trouble is, it's harder for Pursers and CSDs, as the vacancies are fewer.

Personally, I preferred WW but would love it mid-fleet came back - with bidding.

Hi Violinplayer21c / Mat,

BA is also recruiting for LGW which is a single fleet, meaning you both do shorthaul and longhaul. Longhaul destinations are mostly in the Carribean and USA. Nightstops, and 3 and 4 day trips in Europe and UK. There is a bidding system so some control over your working life. Average salary around £1400 -1500 per month, some months more and some less, depending on how you bid. LGW is a young and small but great base (about 1400 crew as opposed to 14000 at LHR).

Hi Sharron,

Challenenges BA is facing are e.g. Terminal 5, congestion / limited runway capacity at LHR, Open Skies agreement with USA, competition of low cost carriers, etc. Hope that helps a bit!!!

Mat, I would say definitely go for BA shorthaul LHR.

BA is a great company (not perfect) and the flying here is great fun (I joined from Emirates btw). There are layovers in most of BA's European stations (a few exceptions are DME, KBP, LED, TIP, ALG). There is a system which gives you the chance to request trips, destinations and days off (that's one of the imperfect things...)

I have to tell you that BA crew are accommodated in a VERY nice hotel in Vienna, opposite the Opera in fact. We mostly stay in 4-5-star hotels in city centres - it's great

The crew are great...BA is a cosmopolitan place to work in, plenty of nationalities are represented here too. You will get the chance to do longhaul, but Eurofleet is a great start believe me.

Many crew share accommodation in and around London, this will not be a problem.

Go ahead and apply, you have nothing to lose. Just hurry up.

I can't speak about Gatwick...all I know is that they do work much harder under different contracts and the pay is much less.

Sharron - I am BA cabin crew.

BADutchie gave you a list of things that pose a challenge to BA at the moment and in the future but if you are looking for one good and very relevant one I would say its the third runway at LHR.

The third runway is vital to BA's expansion at LHR and something they are actively pushing with the government at the moment.

Assessment day 31st march

Ok guys, I have been invited to an Assessment day at Heathrow on the 31st March. This will be my first post application thing I have done after applying to various other airlines to no success. I'm slightly worried as I'm only 19, and thus have very little working experience. I have also never had a formal interview/assessment day and I am currently trying to prepare for it. Can people who are already BA cabin crew give me some tips and information for what to prepare for. It's for a Gatwick base position.

Thanks
Ben

This has got to be the longest bank holiday weekend ever! I had my assessment for BA last wednesday afternoon and I'm anxiously waiting the results!
Is there anyone else on here that attended the same assessment? If so, have you heard anything yet?

Hi everyone, long time lurker of these forums but never posted before!

Well i just completed my application LHR WW, temp contract.

I originally applied for LGW this time last year, got invited to an assessment day, but decided not to go because at that time i got offered another job. But now, one year on, i was tempted again to apply! Didn't know which one to go for, Gatwick, short, longhaul etc..... but after talking to a few friends who are cabin crew/airline people, have decided to take the risk and go for the temp contract.

I've never done cabin crew before (i'm 25) but have spent years working in Customer Services/travel and tourism environments in restaurants, theme parks and now a concert hall.

So i'm hoping get invited to an assesment day so i can figure out if this really is for me as it's something i've always thought about doing!

Anyone in a similar position, or advice, please get in touch!

Chris

It's been a week now since my sister sent off her form and I know we have had a bank holiday weekend, but is it not a long time for her to hear if she will get an interview? She is going to contact them tomorrow, but can anyone tell me if she shouldbe worried?

You've got to be kidding! One week, with the easter break in between and you think it's too long. Talk about impatient. If she calls them now, she will talk herself right out of an interview.

All I can tell you is that I sent my online application through late one Sunday night, and had a reply inviting me to an assessment the following morning (which I was pretty surprised/impressed with!). But, from what I have read on this and other forums, there is a lot of difference in waiting times in between application/interview/results of interview/time in holding pool if successful etc etc.
I'm sure there's a reason for this, but I've no idea what it is!
Good luck for your sister

oh

I sent my form off on the 10th March and heard back on Thursday last week! I thought that was a quick response considering they probably have loads of applications.

Anyway in all seriousness can someone give some tips for my assessment, like what I need to prepare and things. Its for LGW

Well there are 3 recruitment campaigns running simultaneously for a start. It's been a good decade since that last happened. Resourcing are running flat out, so it would be best to keep distractions to a minimum. Turnaround time can be anything from same day to a fortnight but it pretty much a random thing, there is no set pattern. It just depends on the caseload allocations among the resourcing agents.

speedmarque

I have searched the thread speedmarque but cant find anything that helpful. I have been researching British Airwyas in general so I have good knowledge of the company, but I just don't know what to expect really from the group assesment thing. Im guessing i need to be very pleasant and smile, and have excellent appearance, and also to contribute to the exercises etc and not be too bossy or anything... Anything else I need to know?
