Hi Nicola1, I've been crew with Virgin for just over 18 months. During your SEP you will be tested nearly everyday, usually on what was covered the day before. You have to get 88% to pass. If you fail, you'll resit the next day and that day's scheduled test. If you fail again on the same test you'll go to VIVA which is a verbal test of I think 100 questions. Fail that and you're sacked. You're also only allowed to ever resit two exams. If you go to VIVA on one exam, but then fail a resit on another you'll be sacked.

Concentrate in class, do your revision and you'll walk it.

Also, don't ever turn up after a night on the drink because even if you're a tiny bit hanging, they'll sack you too. Happenned to three people on three different occassions on my course!!

I don't mean to scare you! Recurrent is what you should worry about when you have to do it all again in a year!

Enjoy your course x

Was anybody else at the interview today at The Base, Wednesday 5 December? Being told the same day you got the job seems to be the norm with Virgin now, so has anyone heard anything yet?

Hi

Thanks very much for your last message, it has been very informative to me. I am still a bit worried though but think i will be ok. I just don't want to do anything to mess this great opportunity up! I live miles away so staying with someone in Crawley, so definitely won't be going into training half cut - i'll save that for me Saturday nights back home.

Can you just please possibly advise on 1 last thing? What does the swimming pool task entail exactly?

Thanks again.

Hi Nicola, honestly, you'll be fine. The instructors are great and want you to pass and will do everything they can to make sure you know and understand everything.

The wet ditch drill firstly involves getting up at stupid o'clock in the morning and dragging yourself into the base while it's still dark! If I remember rightly, you get in and swim a length of the pool to prove you can actually swim. You get out of the pool, put on a life jacket and inflate it, get back in the pool and drag one of your colleagues to the other end of the pool, they drag you back. Get back out of the pool, deflate your life jacket and tie it up again, throw the life jacket into the middle of the pool. Get back in and swim to a life jacket, put it on and then blow it up using the mouthpiece at the top. Then they chuck a life raft into the pool and you all have to get in it. The first two lucky / unlucky into it end up hauling everybody else in. That's probably the hardest part of it all!

Then back to the base, cold and with wet hair for another day of learning.

Hope that helps x

Thanks RS, you have certainly put my mind at rest now.

I'd heard stories of it being like something off the film (i forget what film) where you are strapped in and get put under water and have to escape!!

Anyway, thanks for all the info you have given, i'm really looking forward to it all now.

Thanks x

Hi

Nice to meet someone else who will be on the training with me!

Not started the learning yet, think i'm going to do it over Christmas when i've got some time off work. Have you started? Is it hard?

Are you currently cabin crew or are you totally new to it like myself?

I am currently crew - just had my last flight and it hasn't all sunk in yet! It's not hard at all, easy to use and you can go back to all sections as many times as you like!

Really nice to meet someone from the course too!

What do you do now? Have you got accommodation sorted? Sorry for the interrogation!!

Don't worry about asking questions, i have been since i heard i'd got the job back in August!

I'm currently a Customer Service Supervisor and have been for the past 5 years. I am soooo excited but nervous at the same time. I suppose you already know quite a lot about the industry but the training may still be a lot to take in.

I'm going down on the 27th for a uniform fitting. I tried to get it done on the 2nd when the induction is but they said it is an all day affair! It's a bit of a pain as i live in Derbyshire so it's a 3 hour trip down there just to get measured up!!

But hey, never mind. It'll all be worth it in the end!

Hi Red Lips.

I was there for about 30 minutes. I felt so proud when i had it all on - they give you so much stuff don't they!!

Not started my E Learning yet. I have had a look at the CD Rom and printed most of it off. I suppose you are familiar with all of the abbreviations as you are already crew but it is new to me and i don't want to fail any part by not knowing something, so keep browsing through them.

I will start it this weekend i think.

Does it have to be done before the 2nd or the start date?

Have a good weekend x

I hope not, had no time to do anything have been non stop flying in december, but it does help if you've flown before but its still new! they wont be there to fail us so we will all be fine. the more you learn the easier it will be i hope! but have heard it very tough so social life will be on hold for a while!

have a nice week end to and see you next week, happy new year.
