Ol' chap, you may have just poked the bear.
I am a very good acquantaince of the young chap you responded to and I will not tolerate your response lightly. All I can suggest, with a Moderator approval, is for you to change your username to Air Weapon as you are a total weapon. Now back on topic chaps and let us all answer this question correctly. |

With respect, it’s not. The process changes and evolves a little each time but is still largely the same as it was 2 years ago. So while it’s very nice you defend your chum, you might best support him by taking a look.
Bases and salary are on PPJN. ELLX is not one of them, near to there it’s only German bases. The process is 1. online application - you’re asked to provide a couple of essays. 2. then there’s the online assessments that you should practice before attempting and a psychometric test that you can’t practice. 3. Online interview - nothing difficult just a chat to see if you fit and the job fits you. You’ll be expected to answer some competence based questions, learn how to do this and have some examples prepared. 4. Assessment centre, 2 more interviews a group exercise and a sim ride. None of it is hard, but you need to prepare. If you don’t get through then there’s a good chance the job is not right for you. Now that I’ve wasted my time reposting that which has already been said many times, can I direct you and your mate to the aforementioned threads where you will not waste your time taking a look at some of the fairly useful information that will help him prepare should he decide to apply? |
The nature of our job is that we need to handle problem solving away from base and can’t sit in your seat waiting for a red capped dispatcher to do everything for you (and it’s unlikely you will have a flight attendant to handle the passengers - at least for the first few years).
If you can’t find the information you require on this website (without complaining) then don’t apply as you won’t manage with life on tour with us. Aircraft handling is 5-10% of what we do on a daily basis so if you are a child of the magenta line then stick with the airlines. However if you genuinely enjoy problem solving then this is the place for you and you will love it here. |
Has anyone heard anything from this time yet ?

Historically the process has frequently taken longer than expected - just to manage your expectations.

Why do you guys keep calling it a tour? Isn't it called a trip or block?

We have dispatchers. They're just not at the airport. They are located in Lisbon. Every thing is done remotely. It works ok. I don't know any different to be honest so I can't compare the benefits of having a dispatcher at the door.
It's been called a tour for as long as I have been in the company (rapidly approaching 20 years). |
Flight plans/Dispatch works the same way as the airlines. The flight plans are emailed to us and the FBO, we sort them as usual. if we need a change we phone our dispatch team in lisbon who sort it out just like in airlines. If we need to adjust TOBT or whatever we speak with the local ground handler, like in the airlines.

Don’t forget to mention, not only all that wonderful problem solving but corporate pilots also get the joy of loading the bags onto the aircraft. Like 3D Tetris but really, really heavy. That joy is magnified ten fold if you fly a Gulfstream.
One thing rich folks don’t know how to do is travel light. |
in my experience at least half the time the ramp rats do it for you or at least help... and it's a good workout, saves going to the gym.....

No, it's not particularly fun, neither is cleaning the lav, but it's important that prospective pilots know all the facets of the job, not just the fun stuff.

Just got invited for the next round: online assessments. 72 hours to complete, should take about 65 minutes according to the email, now suddenly its going faster than I initially expected as I said I'd be available for the last block of part 3 of the assessment 🤷🏼

UK contract. When living in an EU country and not in Portugal, you will be taxed in Portugal, social security in your permanent gateway country. If you live in Portugal you'll pay local taxes and local social security. If you live in the UK you'll pay local taxes and local social security.

Some one on the Continent will be along soon to advise. However, I believe the tax rate for those paying tax to Portugal but who are not resident pay circa 20%. I stand to be corrected by those more knowledgeable. (I'm UK resident and pay in the UK).

Social security is always paid in the country of your permanent gateway airport. |
