Getting a job with aircraft experience below 10T

HI all!

Can I just ask, how many of you have manipulated the truth some what when applying for jobs where recruiters require you to have experience on aircraft above 10T or more?? And then have been successful. Whether its RH or LH seat...

I have over 4000hrs and loads of command time on a private twin jet aircraft multi crew aircraft which is not far off 10T, but just can't seem to get anywhere when applying to the airlines....

Not sure how you will bend the truth:

1. You will lie about a rating you had and flights you had on an aircraft over 10T

2. You will lie about the MTOW of a known type?

Neither look favourable - maybe there is a 3rd less obvious route which doesn't risk you quitting your last job then getting found out and shown the door on your new job?

Chief,

Are you in Nebraska? If so, you will have no problem getting on with a regional, perhaps an LCC. If not, you’re already “bending the truth”, so carry on.

I was once on a type that was just below 10,000kgs and came across a question in an online Flydubai (CTC) application about 'recent' experience in aircraft OVER 10,000kgs. It didn't ask for my current type at that stage so I could have easily claimed recent experience over 10,000kgs, but that would've been a lie which may have been uncovered further down the line, so I wasn't prepared to risk my integrity.

Sure enough the software rejected me immediately because of my truthful answer but hey, you win you lose some. My integrity remains intact and I look upon it as their loss.

Some liars & cheats are adept at getting away with it, I'm not in that number.

As RAFAT writes, your personal integrity is at stake, and that is what counts in the long term. But also, if you lie on your CV, you will be letting down your peers.

I know that my employer has a policy of only reading CVs of UK, German, Scandiwog, Canada, NZ, Australian pilots because they have a reputation for integrity, auditable experience, and employability.

CVs of most other nationals are sent directly to the round filing cabinet..

I know a guy who "forgot" about 3000hrs of his total time when applying to an airline. They had a MAXIMUM of hours one could have for an application...

But I´d say thats different. I wouldn`t do it if I were you....

Unfortunately plenty of Parker pen pilots... flown with a (suspect) few.. problem with many is they can't keep their mouths shut (boasting) and that alone attracts suspicion, not putting you in that category, mainly a few captains I have flown with, SE Asia.

GC is correct, how can you alter MTOW for your type, or create a new type?

Not unsympathetic but this isn't the way to go about things, if anything else you'd be on a razor edge of being caught.

OK OK - I get it!

I'm also not one to be dishonourable or lie etc ......honest!! But keen to pose the question and what responses it would react out of intrigue. However, would it really make a difference if your aircraft is just under the 10T weight with regards to experience? Excuse my naivety, however, is this a requirement stipulated for insurances purposes for the airlines? If so, why are so many of the airlines different? I applied to BA some time back and got through to the interview stage (even though they were aware of my experience....) Why would a pilot with just under the 10T quota pose to be more of a risk and as a consequence be precluded from applying?? It doesn't make sense to me. In my role, I carry so many influential and high profile individuals, that should the worst case ever occur, it would be all over the news!

Speaking of "news", NO I'm NOT from any newspapers or a journalist (wow - such warped imaginations....!!). I'm just a mere pilot...

Galaxy Flyer - not nebraska, no! Not sure why it says Nebraska!

Thanks

It's not impossible. A number of my old colleagues (9t bizjet, UK) went on to various airlines.

Chief - with your experience you must surely be aware by now that there is often no other reason behind qualification criteria other than to reduce the number of applicants, sometimes it's just as simple as that. I can't see a reason myself why 10,000kgs would be a line drawn in the sand.

PS - Accusing your fellow pilots of having "warped imaginations" is probably not the best way to endear yourself to the group!

Same thing happened to a friend of mind, chief pilot, willing to recruit a FO. The companywanted 1500hrs mini, for insurance or whatever reason.
The guy has 1430 hrs.
He couldn't hire him.

1500 hours is probably due to that being a minimum for the award of a full ATPL.

I think there is a hours/weight and seat requirement for ZFT ratings which might play a part.

Of course not, but some chief pilots or airlines or recruiters or insurers are just...well you know what I mean.

I know a dude who went from an Excel to the 747 and I know a guy who did that from a Phenom 300 - they just managed fine. In fact, both say the flying is easier, just a tad different things to think about. (like pod strike etc.)

His dudeness, I know the same guy (aussie). Thanks for reminding me. Cargo airline if I'm not mistaken?

It shouldn't make a difference the weight. Obviously, the size counts and flying characteristics differ somewhat but I also get the fact that airlines need to draw the line somewhere..Similar to this post I guess.

Ok thanks all for your comments.
