Chief - with your experience you must surely be aware by now that there is often no other reason behind qualification criteria other than to reduce the number of applicants, sometimes it's just as simple as that. I can't see a reason myself why 10,000kgs would be a line drawn in the sand.
PS - Accusing your fellow pilots of having "warped imaginations" is probably not the best way to endear yourself to the group!
