iPAd Jeppesen

For all you IPad people, Jeppesen has just launched it's App for Jepview, and before you get too excited, you do need a current subscription but the app is for free?

Nothing fancy but your current database of charts is available, but don't expect anything else.

Does the job, tomorrow will try it out for first time?

Lot of experienced IT people on PPRuNe and you'll find an interesting and, at times, partisan discussion going on over in the private flying forum.

Some Questions...

Great! I can feel 2 iPads coming on for our aircraft, we have the dual FSUs so this would be a much nicer backup than the 'iron lung' laptop in the cupboard!

Does anyone have this yet?
How do you load the charts and how does it update, wifi?

Presumably you have to install jeppview on a computer to set it up? I have a mac, is this a problem as AFAIK you can't get Jeppview for a mac.

Thanks in advance!

Jeff

Seamless, but bit slow to download the initial complement of charts - worldwide minus Asia/Australia. I suspect it was the Jepp server. I like the product.

How many iPads can you sync to the one Jeppview subscription? i.e. one subscription for the aircraft, can two iPads feed off it?

And Biggles - I read it that Obama's subscription is minus Asia/Australia.

You can use one licence of JeppView on two different computers. Technically, not sure if legally.

If you want deactivate JeppView, there is some file inside ProgramFiles/JeppView folder, that do the job. The name of file is self explanatory, something like deactivate.exe, or unreg.exe. Just click on it.

Typing this on the iPad so excuse spelling mistakes.

As far as I know you get 4 licences with a jeppesen view subscription
You need one active to use the app.
If you have none available choose a computer you use the least and deactivate it there. The file for that is in the jeppesen directory.
Now we have lost track of our systems and so phoned tech support and gave them the site keys of which systems we want to keep. They will release the other licences imidiately.
Be warned, if you do a system reset on your iPad you will lose your site key and everything stops working and you have to phone again to get the licence back, found this out the hard way.
Used the app the other day and is fantastic. We also have a LS 800 and there is no comparison.
Going to try the yoke mount from ram to see if we can mount it.
Put all our checklists and qrh and poh on using PDF and works great.
Brilliant battery life and the charts are fantastic to use, just at night a bit to bright even fully dimmed.

Cheers

I love it

Hi,

I love that machine.
First of all I did not see any usability as they came up with the iPad but now...
You know how easy it is to read your OM on that thing?
Cracy! I love it.

Here is an article about it:

Enjoy that toy,

Jeppesen Server

Hi all. I need some help please?

I bought an IPad for the Company Jet a few days ago with the sole aim of using it with the new Jeppesen Mobile TC App as it is a major step forward in my mind. Loaded the App yesterday and tried to download the charts using our Jeppview subscription but all I get from the Jeppesen App is "Poor internet connection, try later".!!

There is nothing wrong with the IPad's internet connection and strength as I can download from the web with ease. I have been trying in vain now for 2 days to try and get this system to do what it advertises it will do but with no success.

I have spoken to the Jeppesen Support Center but all I get from them is that the server is busy try later or its a "router problem"; to be blunt they are as much use as a Chocolate Fire Guard and very disappointing in their customer support. At the moment it looks like I bought an IPad to run a piece of Jeppesen software that Jeppesen are incapable of supporting!

Has anybody had the same problem and if so how did you rectify the situation?

I am seriously considering the legal position with respect to how Jeppesen are conducting themselves at present.

Thanks

I got the same problem. Have been trying to download the 18 cycle for 4 times already (5th is currently attempting to download), but somewhere in the middle it gives me the "poor internet connection, try later" message. Didn't have this problem when downloading the 17 cycle. Anybody else having problems with getting the latest (18) cycle?

By the way,...I don't understand that Jeppesen's support is so meager while customers are paying 12K per year for the subscription. Ppppffttt....

On the positive side, I love this App! I'd like to suggest to Jepp to make some improvements to it. This is my list after having use it for a couple of times:

- Able to make trip-kits. Multiple folders where you can put all the charts you need for a particular flight, instead of just 1 Favourites folder.

- Within the "trip-kit" a possibility to choose several charts, which you can horizontally scroll through in order to get fast access to the charts you want. eg: 10-9 to 10-9A should be much easier to reach. Right now too many clicks have still to be made and it's just annoying to have to pick out that one particular chart from the whole list again. If you go to larger airports with over 50 charts this feature is a real miss.

- For using this App at night the light is still too bright. Jepp should incorporate the same feature as you can find in IBook, where you can dim the backlight to almost zero.

NEway,...all good, but let's see if I can download this 18 cycle. I'm afraid the "poor connection"-crap is showing up again.

Great day e'body!!

Poor Internet Connection

My colleague and I are attempting to fix this exact same issue and what we have found so far is that it IS almost definitely a router issue. Using an iPad connected to a Cisco ValetPlus M20 we are receiving the Poor Internet Connection error. Connecting the same iPad to a Belkin F5D7230-4 router allows us to receive the updates every time we try. We are running some packet captures now to try and determine exactly what is happening.

probably the worst customer service experience of any product I have ever been sorry enough to experience. Where do I start, well I made an order on 7th September, nothing yet has been dispatched and hence the serial number not activated. Today I have been cut off by all 3 of the support centres (US, UK and Germany), my customer numebr exists in some systems yet not in others. The UK lines were down this am - for 400 eur cost i am still waiting and this is a week later - quite pathetic really
